60 YEARS OF THE IMPALA (Building T)

The Chevrolet Impala debuted in 1958 as one of Chevrolet’s most expensive models and quickly became one of the best-selling passenger cars in the United States. In 1959 it was redesigned using bodyshells more like the Buicks, Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs of the time. In 1961 the Impala began its third generation on the GM B Platform which would last until 1964. In 1965, in its fourth generation, the Impala took the market by storm setting an all-time industry sales record of more than 1 million units in the U.S. By 1971 styling changed in the automotive market and, naturally, the Impala did as well by introducing its fifth-generation model. This lasted until 1976. 100 YEARS OF CHEVY TRUCKS (Building T) Hitting the truck market in 1918, Chevrolet introduced the Four-Ninety after using them internally for a couple of years. Priced at $595, the truck provided the market with an economic light-delivery truck that many small business- es started using after World War I. REVITALIZATION PROJECT The site of the former International Automotive Compo- nents plant, located along Spring Road a few blocks from the Carlisle Fairgrounds, closed in 2008. Carlisle Events purchased the property and has undergone several years of clearing the land, planning, cutting through red tape and is now in the beginning stages of construction. The first phase of the project is the infrastructure – roads, storm water runoff, sewage, power and water lines, etc. By the end of this event season we expect to see some buildings take shape to include a hotel, shops and a luxury car condominium community (Concours at Carlisle concoursat- carlisle.com). We are very excited at the progress and will include updates in this year’s event guides.
