Wilson Spotlight Issue 354 October 8, 2012 http://www.pps.k12.or.us/schools/wilson/ FOOTBALL TEAM GOES PINK ON OCTOBER 11 To help shine a light on Cancer Awareness month, the Wilson football teams will be sporting pink for our last regular-season home game, Thursday, Oct 11th. All of our three teams will have pink socks and pink wrap... and look for the pink ribbon painted on the field. “We just want to show support for a great cause,” adds Coach Ken Duilio. “Cancer Awareness month hopefully brings more attention to a disease that affects all of us. We will wear pink with pride!” WILSON STUDENTS KEEP BLOCK PRINTING ART ALIVE THANKS TO CHARLES F SURENDORF II ART FOUNDATION Marie Pearson, Wilson Art Teacher is thrilled to announce that Cindy Surendorf is doing a two-week block printing workshop in the Draw-Paint-Print classes at Wilson. Cindy is the Executive Director of the Charles F Surendorf II Art Foundation. Her father is Charles Surendorf, a WPA artist during the Great Depression and was among the top block print artists of the 20th century. Cindy uses her father's work to discuss societal issues (such as racism, poverty, and heath) that were present during the Great Depression and how many of these problems are still present today. Students choose a contemporary problem and create a block print that presents a solution. Her foundation provides all of the supplies for the workshop. There is no cost to the school. The workshop is scheduled for October 1 through October15 for the four sections of Draw-Paint-Print.
