A House in the City – in the Context of Secession Aesthetics
MaRia MaLzacheR* a hoUse in the citY – in the conteXt oF secession aesthetics DoM MieszkaLnY w MieŚcie – w kontekŚcie estetYki secesYjnej a b s t r a c t a new image of the house in the city is presented against the background of the secession aesthetics as a manifestation of new attempts, concepts and modernist trends in early 20th-century architecture and denial of the stylistic principles of jaded historical forms of art. the search for a new expression of buildings and achieve- ment of “architectural unity” indicate the dualistic challenge of creating a form os- cillating between utility and aesthetics. the means of expression of the secession aesthetics associated with the aspects of visual perception, as carriers of ideas, sym- bols and semantic connotations in the creation of new transformations of the archi- tectural urban space are analysed on the bases of selected examples: houses in cities and towns of autonomous Galicia. Poszukiwania nowego wyrazu budowli i osiągnięcia „architektonicznej jedności” ukazują dualistyczną dążność kształtowania jej formy oscylującej pomiędzy jej użytecznością a estetyką. Środki wyrazu estetyki secesyjnej związane z aspektem percepcji wizualnej, jako nośniki idei, symboli i konotacji znaczeń w kreowaniu nowej transformacji przestrzeni architektonicznej miasta, zanalizowano na wybra- nych przykładach – domów mieszkalnych ośrodków i miast autonomicznej Galicji. The Jewel in the Emerald Necklace of the City of Lviv
HALYNA PETRYSHYN*, OLHA KRYVORUCHKO**, HALYNA LUKASHCHUK*, STEPAN TUPIS’* THE PARK IN ST. YURI (ST. GEORGE) SQUARE – THE JEWEL IN THE EMERALD NECKLACE OF THE CITY OF LVIV SKWER NA PLACU ŚW. JURY – KLEJNOT W SZMARAGDOWYM NASZYJNIKU LWOWA Abstract The most valuable parks in Lviv were designed by the famous city gardener Arnold Röhring, who managed to combine in the art of landscape design the different styles of the turn of 20th century. If the large parks of the city are under state protection, the smaller ones designed as public gardens, boulevards, gardens near the villas are constantly being rebuilt and destroyed. The results of the study of the park in St. Yuri Square in Lviv give grounds for considering this park an authentic monument of landscape art of the end of the 19th century, where its compositional structure and state of rare old-growth species of trees and shrubs are well preserved. Keywords: Lviv parks, landscape design, public gardens, Arnold Röhring Streszczenie Najcenniejsze parki we Lwowie zostały zaprojektowane przez słynnego ogrodnika miejskiego Arnol- da Röhringa, któremu udało się połączyć w sztuce projektowania krajobrazu różne style przełomu XIX i XX wieku. Jeśli duże parki miasta są pod ochroną państwa, mniejsze, zaprojektowane jako ogrody pu- bliczne, skwery, bulwary, ogrody w pobliżu willi, stale są przebudowane i niszczone. Badania skweru na placu św. Jury we Lwowie dają podstawy do uznania go autentycznym zabytkiem sztuki krajobrazowej z końca XIX wieku, w którym struktura kompozycyjna i stan starodrzewu rzadkich gatunków są dobrze zachowane. Potocki Palace Lviv
Potocki Palace Lviv Potocki Palast Lemberg Schlagwörter: Palast Fachsicht(en): Denkmalpflege, Landeskunde, Museen, Architekturgeschichte Gemeinde(n): Kreis(e): Bundesland: Museum of European Art of the 14-18th century in Potocki Palace Lviv (2021) Fotograf/Urheber: Yevheniya Strykhar The Potocki Palace is situated in Lviv, Kopernyka Street 15, in the center of the city. From the Kopernyka Street, the Palace is separated by a fence with a front gate and offices for the guard. Above the gate, the Potocki family coat of arms called „Pilyava“ can be found. The same coat of arms is installed in the center of the facade above the second-floor window. On the southwest side near the palace, red brick stables with bas-reliefs of horses were built with access to the Ossolinskikh Street (now Stefanyka Street). Palace construction The Potocki family sold their palace on Halytska Square in Lviv (now known as the Besyadetsky Palace) and bought a real estate on Shiroka Street (now Kopernyka Street) in 1822. On plans of Lviv for the 18th and 19th century, garden and several small buildings were planned for the area where the Potocki Palace stands today. In the second half of the 19th-century Count Alfred Józef Potocki (1817/1822-1889), a politician and governor of Galicia, decided to build a new palace. At first there was a park and a small estate on this place - a hunting estate on the swampy bank of the river Poltva. The count was known as a patron and connoisseur of French architecture, so the palace was designed by the French architect Louis d'Auvergne (1854-1937). -

LANDSCAPE ORGANIZATION of MONUMENTAL SCULPTURE in the CREATIVE WORK of ARNOLD RÖHRING (Squares, Streets and Parks of the City)
Posatskyy Bohdan, Mykhailo Hrytsak LANDSCAPE ORGANIZATION OF MONUMENTAL SCULPTURE IN THE CREATIVE WORK OF ARNOLD RÖHRING (squares, streets and parks of the city) Lviv Polytechnic National University 12, Bandery str., 79013 Lviv, Ukraine, [email protected] Received: December 05,2016 / Revised: / Accepted: © Posatskyy B., Hrytsak M., 2016 Abstract. The article deals with the landscape arrangement of monumental sculptures in the creative work of Arnold Rӧhring. The text reviews the role and the importance of landscape arrangement of monumental sculptures in the architectural composition of the city of Lviv. Examples of works of monumental sculpture of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries are described in the article. Keywords: monumental sculpture, Arnold Rӧhring, landscape organization, city parks. 1. Introduction The city center of Lviv is characterized by richness and diversity of natural, urban and architectural forms, which, together, form a unique historical landscape-architectural complex. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the city center developed rapidly by building up, mainly, the southern sector of the city. After construction of an underground reservoir for the Poltva river, a new central cell began to be formed. Construction of a considerable number of residential and public buildings led, among others, to erection of the building of the Diet of Galicia and Lodomeria. According to the principles of urban contemporary European development, the planning of planted boulevards and city parks was initiated. On the boulevards, squares and parks there were located monumental sculptures, mostly the memorials of famous public figures, writers and poets. The tradition of combination of sculptures and objects of the landscape in Europe goes back to Ancient Rome.
