EDUCATORS COMMITMENT on RESILIENT DESIGN Colleges EDUCATORS COMMITMENT ON RESILIENT DESIGN Colleges, universities, associations, and academic centers have signed onto the Educators Commitment on Resilient Design and pledged: We envision a future where our homes, schools, workplaces, and communities are resilient to extreme weather events and can adapt to the impacts of climate change. Making this future a reality will require a focus on resilient design across disciplines. Students who will lead the planning, design, engineering, development, construction, and retrofit of homes, buildings, and infrastructure must be prepared to build for resilience, both now and into the foreseeable future. We commit to: • Inspiring and training the next generation of architecture, engineering, urban planning, and construction professionals to innovate and effectively address resilience to extreme weather events and climate change; • Connecting students and professionals with best-available science on the growing risks posed by extreme weather events and climate change; • Fostering interdisciplinary settings for students to develop the employable skills and professional networks needed to support resilient design; and • Pursuing life-long learning opportunities to continually advance our understanding of how to design and build for a resilient future.     Underrated A+ Colleges and Universities These are colleges and universities that are not quite “tip of the tongue” schools but are generally regarded as among the best educations in the United States, and are certainly well known to national companies and graduate schools. Some of these schools may not be as “front end” selective as an Ivy or Ivy-Like institution, but don’t confuse selectivity with the educational delivery product. Among our 38,000 alumni, one in five is a CEO, senior executive or owner of a company. Founded in 1896 to honor Thomas S. Clarkson, the University's main campus is located in the “college town” of Potsdam, NY on a historic 640-acre wooded homestead in the foothills of the Adirondack Park. With three other universities nearby, Clarkson community members enjoy a constantly changing social and intellectual quality of life largely influenced by our proximity to the north slope of the Adirondacks; easy drives to Lake Placid as well as Ottawa and Montreal, Canada; and a high level of regional camaraderie to encourage innovative partnerships in small business development, arts, tourism, recreation, agriculture and green energy.
