A PSA Peugeot-Citroen/Rootes Group Family Tree A PSA Peugeot-Citroen/Rootes Group Family Tree This family tree has been greatly simplified. For example, Simca at one time controlled Unic, but later sold the company to Iveco, so I haven't mentioned it here. Similarly, Chrysler has not been covered here in detail since it was only involved for 15 years. There are probably also omissions. If any readers can help fill in omissions, please let me know. Some texts report that Citroen took over Hotchkiss (incorporating Delage, Delahaye and Amilcar) in the 1970s, yet other texts have conflicting accounts. Due to this uncertainty I have not included details here. Team Pantera of Orange County enjoyed a first class visit to a first class venue of French classics at the Mullin Automobile Museum on June 8th, 2013. Assembled by Peter W. Mullin, this collection is his passion. The museum's website declares, “For me the French automobiles of the 1920s and 1930s represent the pinnacle of 20th Century art and design. As an avid collector, the preservation of these rolling sculptures for the enjoyment of future generations is both a responsibility and a pleasure. I relish the stewardship and preservation of their exciting histories.” - Peter W. Mullin. Car Collection – With a total of over 350 cars, the museum continually rotates to display approximately 60 vehicles at any one time. The most 'common' marks are Bugatti, Avion Voisin, Delahaye, Hispano-Suiza, and Talbot-Lago, plus an upstairs mezzanine of LeMans race cars. In particular, it includes the worlds largest collection of Voisins. The heart of the collection is the: • 1939 Delahaye Type 165 Cabriolet, and one of only 6 12-cylinder Type 165s that was built to represent France at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. • 1935 Avions Voisin C25 Aerodyne, 'Best of Show' winner at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. • Car Firms' Strategies and Practices in Europe
1 ♦ Car firms’ strategies and practices in Europe Michel FREYSSENET (CNRS, Paris) Yannick LUNG (Bordeaux 4 University) GERPISA international network The automobile sector is often presented as the archetypal global industry. In this view, car business is one of the main driving forces behind the homogenisation of the world, both because of the firms’ internationalisation strategies (mergers-acquisitions, establishment of facilities in emerging countries, world cars, international division of labour, etc.) and as a result of the social practices enacted by them via their organisation of work and their influence upon lifestyle (automobile civilisation). Regarding the case of Europe, the present article is an attempt to deconstruct a representation that neglects the heterogeneity of firms and spaces, the great diversity of strategies pursued, and the inherent contradictions of the competitive process. For doing that, we will use the analytical approach of firms’ trajectories elaborated by us during the first and second international programs of GERPISA (Boyer, Freyssenet, 2000). Growth modes, profit strategies and productive models Analysing car makers’ trajectories and performances over the course of the 20th century allowed us to renew our understanding of the two essential conditions that are prerequisites for profitability. The first is the relevancy of the “profit strategy” to the “growth mode” that typifies the countries in which the firm is deploying its activities. The second is the “company government compromise” between a firm’s principal protagonists, a meeting of the minds that enables actors to implement means coherent with the profit strategy pursued—in other words, to invent or adopt a “productive model.” Profit strategies are combinations of profit sources in compatible proportions.

August 2016 Volume 3 Issue 8 Editorial Comments: With summer coming to an end be sure to check out the loaded fall season we have planned for the balance of 2016. There are more things to do and events than ever. Alfa Romeo Selection of the Month for August 2016. Car Name: 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Touring Spider – not your average spider! Alfa Article: The Montreal Finally gets Respect Note: Curtisey Road & Track The Alfa Romeo Montreal Is Cooler Than Most Ferraris The Montreal is probably the greatest oddball of the seventies. A friend of mine has a beautiful black Alfa Romeo Montreal. He calls her Lukrécia, and the car works as flawlessly as such a machine can—because it lives at Alfarium, a shop where they can deal with its dry-sump 2.6 liter V8's crazy SPICA fuel injection and all the wiring that wasn't quite finished at the factory. That's why I trust them with my Autobianchi, a slightly less complex beast. Lukrécia even made it to the pages of Petrolicious before, but now, it was time for photographer/illustrator TJ Grewal's beautiful blue Montreal to become their latest star. TJ ended up buying the first Montreal he ever saw—importing it from Italy—and as somebody who spends a lot of time in his studio appreciating the details of such cars, he couldn't be happier about getting this Bertone classic. Alfa Romeo built less than 4000 Montreals in the middle of the oil crisis, naming the production version of the concept car after the Canadian Expo it was made for.

Contents Luton: Motor Town Luton: Motor Town 1910 - 2000 The resources in this pack focus on the major changes in the town during the 20th century. For the majority of the period Luton was a prosperous, optimistic town that encouraged forward-looking local planning and policy. The Straw Hat Boom Town, seeing problems ahead in its dependence on a single industry, worked hard to attract and develop new industries. In doing so it fuelled a growth that changed the town forever. However Luton became almost as dependant on the motor industry as it had been on the hat industry. The aim of this pack is to provide a core of resources that will help pupils studying local history at KS2 and 3 form a picture of Luton at this time. The primary evidence included in this pack may photocopied for educational use. If you wish to reproduce any part of this park for any other purpose then you should first contact Luton Museum Service for permission. Please remember these sheets are for educational use only. Normal copyright protection applies. Contents 1: Teachers’ Notes Suggestions for using these resources Bibliography 2: The Town and its buildings 20th Century Descriptions A collection of references to the town from a variety of sources. They illustrate how the town has been viewed by others during this period. Luton Council on Luton The following are quotes from the Year Book and Official Guides produced by Luton Council over the years. They offer an idea of how the Luton Council saw the town it was running.

  • 2008 Dodge Avenger Product Heritage
Contact: Brandt Rosenbusch 2008 Dodge Avenger Product Heritage The First Avenger Plans for the first car to carry the Avenger name were initiated by the Rootes Group (later to become Chrysler Europe) in England in 1963. Intended to replace Rootes’ best-selling vehicle of the time, the Hillman Minx, the project was delayed by funding issues; another car, the Arrow, would become the replacement for the Minx. Still, Rootes executives saw the need for a smaller car, and consideration of what they would call the “B-Car” began in earnest in November 1965. It would prove to be the first and last car developed by Rootes, following its 1967 takeover by Chrysler Corporation. Said to have drawn its inspiration from Detroit, the new car featured a readily identifiable “semi-fastback” design that would become its trademark. Much consideration was given to the needs of female customers; fashion consultants were employed during the design phase. The Hillman Avenger would feature a four-link rear suspension in place of traditional leaf springs, standard front anti-roll bars and a selection of four inline-four cylinder engines. The Hillman Avenger was introduced in February 1970 to popular acclaim. This B-class vehicle, built in sedan and wagon versions to compete with the Austin 1300, Ford Escort, Vauxhall Viva and other small cars, was designed to be the basic no-frills Hillman, with a four-speed manual gearbox an all-iron overhead valve engine. Four-door saloons were built first, followed by two-door saloons and five-door “estate” models. Many variations of the basic Avenger appeared over the years.
