Request for Submissions Wisconsin School Music Association 1005 Quinn Dr Waunakee, WI 53597 REQUEST FOR SUBMISSIONS May 1, 2021 Dear Director of Music Education Sales, Thank you! We would like to say a very grateful thank you to all of the many publishers who graciously permitted the music educators of Wisconsin to virtually submit videos and music PDFs as part of the 2020-21 WSMA Virtual Solo & Ensemble Festival. You allowed our student musicians to have a little bit of normalcy during this pandemic that has taken so many special events away from them. The response we had was phenomenal! We would also like to assure you that we have followed through with our promise to delete all PDFs and video submissions from the fall festival cycle. In addition, the spring festival submissions will be deleted by the end of May once all evaluations are complete. Adjusting Our Rotation of Event Evaluations This year, Wisconsin School Music Association will be modifying its yearly publisher submissions rotation for our festival music list. The standard rotation of updates will be delayed by one year, as we use the upcoming festival season to allow our teachers a chance to settle back into their normal routines while also focusing on creating more diversity on our festival music list. Please carefully review the information below to better understand our submission needs for this summer. Immediate Need for 2021-22 WSMA Festival Music List While there will be no specific event categories with major changes for the 2021-22 WSMA Festival Music List, we are looking to diversify composer representation. We encourage you to send us music by female, LGBTQ+, and composers of color for any of our event lists. Submission priority date: JUNE 23, 2021. Please know, however, that we will continue to accept music submissions that represent diversity, equity and inclusivity throughout the year for any of our event lists. Submissions not received in time for the 2021-22 Music List review will be kept for future consideration. - Continued - Request of Submissions for 2022-23 WSMA Festival Music List You are invited to send review scores of best sellers and appropriate new releases for the events under review. We ask that you consider literature that represents and recognizes diversity, equity, and inclusion through a broad scope of genre, composers and arrangers. Simply send your submissions directly to WSMA and we will distribute your materials to our evaluators on your behalf. For the 2022-2023 WSMA Festival Music List, we will be considering submissions for the following music events. A detailed listing of events follows this letter. The Turkish Online Journal of Design, Art and Communication - TOJDAC ISSN: 2146-5193, April 2018 Volume 8 Issue 2, p. 340-363 THE FORM ANALYSIS OF “SKY” COMPOSED FOR SIX-HANDS PIANO Şirin AKBULUT DEMİRCİ Assoc. Prof. Education Faculty, Music Education Faculty. Uludag University, Turkey https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8904-4920 [email protected] Berkant GENÇKAL Assoc. Prof. State Conservatory, School for Music and Drama. Anadolu University, Turkey https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5792-2100 [email protected] ABSTRACT The piano, which is a solo instrument that takes part in educational process, can take role not only in instrumental education but also in chamber music education as well with the 6-hands pieces for three players that perform same composition on a single instrument. According to the international 6-hands piano literature, although the works of Alfred Schnittke's Hommage, Carl Czerny's Op.17 and 741, Paul Robinson's Pensees and Montmartre and many more are included, the Turkish piano literature has been found to have a limited number of compositions. The aim of the work is to contribute to the field by presenting musical analysis about the place and the importance of the educational use of the works composed for 6-hands which are extremely rare in the Turkish piano literature. As an example, the piece named Sky composed by Hasan Barış Gemici is considered. Analysis is supported by comparative methods in form, structuralism, rhythm, theoretical applications and performance; it also gives information about basic playing techniques. It is thought that this study carries importance in contributing to the limited number of Turkish 6-hands piano literature and researchers who will conduct research in this regard, in terms of creating resources for performers and composers who will interpret the literature.

  • Empathy in Piano Duet Rehearsal and Performance
Empirical Musicology Review Vol. 10, No. 2, 2015 Empathy in Piano Duet Rehearsal and Performance ELIZABETH HADDON University of York MARK HUTCHINSON University of York ABSTRACT: This article explores the concept of empathy within the construct of the piano duet. Analysis of data created through reflective writing following each of eight rehearsals revealed bodily, verbal, emotional, and cognitive empathy concerning increasing instinctive understanding and tacit communication, unspoken conflict resolution, and the development of creative empathy in relation to the piece of music being rehearsed. The findings highlight the importance of empathy in developing fluidity of roles in rehearsal and in the creation of a “safe space” for musical collaboration. Submitted 2014 March 3; accepted 2014 June 17. KEYWORDS: empathy, piano duet, rehearsal, performance, reflection, intersubjectivity RESEARCH has increasingly expanded understanding of empathy in relation to domains including psychology (Ickes, 2011), psychotherapy (Lichtenberg, Bornstein, & Silver, 1984; Dekeyser, Elliott, & Leijssen, 2011), education (Feshbach & Feshbach, 2011), and musical interaction (Laurence, 2009; Cross, Laurence, & Rabinowitch, 2012; Rabinowitch, Cross, & Burnard, 2012). Although authors tend to display agreement concerning the key components involved in empathy, noting that it requires “(a) an affective response to another person, which often, but not always, entails sharing that person’s emotional state; (b) a cognitive capacity to take the perspective of the other person; and (c) emotion regulation” (Decety & Jackson, 2006, p. 54), possibilities for varying perspectives and interpretations abound (see Batson, 2011). Empathy can be “presented simultaneously as a capacity, a process, and an expression” (Reed, 1984, p. 12); it can also be viewed as functioning as a “bottom-up” response which is “perceptual or sensory driven” (Eisenberg & Eggum, 2011, p.
