Hair was braided elaborately in the Medieval Era in styles similar to the designs we see today. Because some of the same hair styles from the Medieval Era are coming back, I put this book together to show you how to do old-fashioned and new styles of braids. Braids were woven with flowers and decorations during different holidays. The class of the women depended a great deal on what hairstyles they wore. While I was traveling in Costa Rica with my mom, I ran out of bobby pins and needed to find a way to keep my hair off my neck. It was 90 degrees! So I invented the weave (a way to French braid my hair and then weave the tails back through my hair.) The braided weave was tight and held in place without pins. And, amazingly, it looked really cool! Everyone came up to me and stared at my braided weave. They couldn’t figure out how I did it, when they saw it. After creating the Weave while in Costa Rica, I have designed hun- dreds of cool braids for all kinds of hair types. Whether you have short or long hair, straight or frizzy hair, one length or layered hair, you’ll find braid designs that will look good and work with your hair. Simply start by selecting a cool braid. Then, read the instructions. It’s best to learn how to do the Basic French braid before trying a fancier style. Creating the “part” is the most important step. Create the part by using a comb, and then seperate the hair. Tie off each section with a hair tie to seperate sections and to make them easier to work with, and start braid- ing according to the directions. 7 Brush or comb out each section as you braid to keep all loose hair together and to keep the braid tight. If you make a mistake, just back up and re-braid it. Then continue following my directions. If you have layered or frizzy hair, use lots of gel to keep loose ends together and make your hair look perfect. To make your braids look really fancy, you can accessorize with clips, colored bands, beads, etc... You can also create your own braids. Parting your hair in different ways can make braids look completely different. Try weaving extra hair or putting the excess hair in a ponytail. Braiding is fun. These braids look fancy but actually are quite simple to do. With these easy instructions, you can create beautiful braids. By using your new braiding skills, you can create amazing braids yourself! 8 The Basic Double French Materials • Brush • Comb • Hair ties • Accessories • Hair Spray • Gel Directions 1. The Part: Gather a section of hair from the top of the head and separate it into three equal parts: A, B, C. 2. Braid it once (take C over B, then A over C). 3. Gather a ½” of hair from the right side of the head and join it with section B. 4. Cross section B over section A. 5. Gather a section of hair from the left side of the head and join it with section C. 6. Cross section B over section A. 7. Repeat until all of the strands of hair are braided. 8. Braid the rest of the hair down to the end. Cross section A over section B, section C over section B, section A over section C, section B over section A... Keep repeating this pattern until hair is braided all the way to 3" from the end of her hair. 9 10 The Pineapple Materials • Brush • Comb • Hair ties • Accessories • Hair Spray • Gel Directions 1. The Part: Make the zig zag parts starting at the left temple and continuing all the way until you reach the neck. Start the next part on the right side approximately the same distance from the center as the first part and then continue the part until you reach the neck. With each part, start at the top at approximately the same distance from the center. The last two parts will swirl around and end at the neck. (See photo) 2. Put each section of hair into a rubber band so it doesn’t get in the way. 3. Start braiding the top at the left side. 4. Start braiding very small strands; they get bigger as you continue. 5. When you have finished braiding all of the braids, tie them off with colorful rubber bands. 11.

This is your training manual. It contains general training advice and specific activities to help your apprentice learn. The hairdressing qualification is made up of unit standards which cover the skills your apprentice needs to know. The manual goes through each unit standard, starting with the easiest ones and working up to harder ones. You should work through the units in the order they appear in the training manual. You’ll also notice that the unit standards in this book are divided by year level. It should take no more than 12 months to complete the units in each year. Your apprentice must complete all the units in a year level before moving onto the next year level. There is a glossary at the back to explain any words your apprentice doesn’t understand. This manual contains advice on training in general, how HITO training works, and who to ask for help if you need it. This information is in the Introduction section. Keep this manual at the salon at all times. You’ll need to refer to it often when training, and your HITO Sales and Liaison Manager may need to see it when they visit.

  • Hair Donation Guidelines
Haiir Donatiion Guiideliines Watch our Step-By-Step Video Tutorial On How To Donate Hair at www.locksoflove.org Ponytails & Braids Only: . 10" or longer, in a ponytail or braid, clean and dry Guidelines for acceptable donations: Anyone can cut your hair as long as the guidelines listed below are followed. We encourage all of our donors to go to a salon they are already familiar with to ensure their comfort when donating. If you are not sure if your hair falls within our guidelines or have question about any products you have used, please consult your stylist or the manufacturer of your product. Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable. Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid. Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches, and may be divided into multiple ponytails. Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches. 10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece. Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist. We are not able to accept bleached hair due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process. Hair that is swept off of the floor is not usable because it has not been cut while bundled in a ponytail or braid. Hair that is shaved off and not in a ponytail or braid is not usable. You may divide your hair into multiple ponytails, and cut each one off before continuing to shave.
