For over 130 years, these local papers formed, merged, and reorganized under various owners until 1964, when Gannett Co. Inc., acquired them. The T Gannett Co. Inc., was founded by Frank E. On May 21, 1973, The Gannett Westchester Rockland Newspaper Group established headquarters at One Gannett Drive, Harrison, NY. It was at this location that all of the Westchester newspapers were printed. The location also served as a print site for USA Today. In 1989, Gannett completed expansion of its facilities to include a third line of presses capable of printing three different newspa- pers at once. The Gannett Foundation The Gannett Foundation’s corporate charitable program is designed to serve those communities in which Gannett has opera- tions. The program makes contributions to qualified nonprofit organizations to improve the education, health and advancement of the people who live in Gannett communities. The Foundation values projects that take a creative approach to fundamental issues such as education and neighborhood improvement, economic development, youth development, community problem-solving, assistance to people who are disadvan- taged, environmental conservation, and cultural enrichment.

Lend-A-Hand We also take pride in serving the needs of the community through Lend-A-Hand, a charity fund adminis- tered by The Journal News. Lend-A-Hand offers emergency-related help to individuals or families throughout Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties. Specifically, it provides assistance with one-time emergency cases not covered by other sources

Madelyn P. Jennings Scholarships are awarded annually to children of full-time Gannett employees. Scholarships are awarded through a competition conducted by Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Candidates are evaluated on the basis of high school academic performance, test scores, con- tributions to their school and communities, and the school’s recom- mendations. Each scholarship is a one-time award of $3,000.
