TINGLEY Party factionalism, individual ambitions, and personal rivalries contributed in 1924 to a situation unique in South Dakota politics. The names of eight candidates vying for one seat in the United States Senate graced the November ballots. Beyond the multiplicity of candidates, the election contest was also marked by its longevity, an element aggravated by a complex primary system initiated by the Richards Primary Law of 1918. Under this law, the election process started on the second Tuesday of November in the preceding year so that almost twelve months passed before final office holders were elected. The 1924 election, therefore, started on 13 November 1923, when every precinct elected three proposalmen for each party. Besides selecting county candidates, these proposalmen also chose three of their number from the county to assemble with other county delegations on 4 December to propose candidates and prepare a state platform for their party. At this state meeting in Pierre, each delegate had the power to cast votes totaling one-third the number of votes cast in his county for the party's gubernatorial choice in the preceding election. Proposal- men who dissented from the majority nomination could file an alternate slate. Any additional nonconformists were required to file as independents, without majority or minority sponsorship but with individual petitions that had endorsements representing at least 1 percent of the total number of votes cast for the party's Copyright © 1979 by the South Dakota State Historical Society. -

Founded in 1982, the organization is a unique non-profit offering basic needs services such as hot lunches, an emergency food pantry, housing assistance, a nurse's clinic, and more, as well as education and job-readiness services, health and wellness programs, and an after school program. "I first visited Paul's Place during the primary election, and was immediately impressed by the work this organization is doing in the Pigtown commu- nity," Governor-elect Hogan said. "I feel their model is something that could be implemented on a much larger scale throughout the state to foster 'hope, personal dignity, and growth,' part of the Paul's Place motto, to all of our communities in need. List of DirecTV channels (United States) Below is a numerical representation of the current DirecTV national channel lineup in the United States. Some channels have both east and west feeds, airing the same programming with a three-hour delay on the latter feed, creating a backup for those who missed their shows. The three-hour delay also represents the time zone difference between Eastern (UTC -5/-4) and Pacific (UTC -8/-7). All channels are the East Coast feed if not specified. High definition Most high-definition (HDTV) and foreign-language channels may require a certain satellite dish or set-top box. Additionally, the same channel number is listed for both the standard-definition (SD) channel and the high-definition (HD) channel, such as 202 for both CNN and CNN HD. DirecTV HD receivers can tune to each channel separately. This is required since programming may be different on the SD and HD versions of the channels; while at times the programming may be simulcast with the same programming on both SD and HD channels. Part time regional sports networks and out of market sports packages will be listed as ###-1. Older MPEG-2 HD receivers will no longer receive the HD programming. Special channels In addition to the channels listed below, DirecTV occasionally uses temporary channels for various purposes, such as emergency updates (e.g. Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike information in September 2008, and Hurricane Irene in August 2011), and news of legislation that could affect subscribers. The News Mix channels (102 and 352) have special versions during special events such as the 2008 United States Presidential Election night coverage and during the Inauguration of Barack Obama. -

The traditional route of receiving news via a newspaper has evolved into a more digital path, leaving many to question the future of the print publication. This study evaluates the print- and Web-based content of the Houston Chronicle. The researcher adds to the field of research on news media by analyzing the online and print content of the publication, creating a new way to categorize and evaluate the subject matter by placing it into four categories: repetition, adaptation, representation, and unique. The researcher seeks to answer three research questions, discovering how each medium exemplifies elements of media convergence.
