Dear Editor, Last year, as we were about to leave PV, I saw an item in the PV Mirror about a place that was taking in unwanted children and providing them with shelter and an education. The item indicated you could come for a tour and brunch to see what they were doing. We were about to go back home but I made note of the place and vowed to get there this year. Well, I just got back from the place and must say it was quite a sobering experience. The lady that started this endeavour with 16 children now has around 100 children whom she looks after. They do not call this an orphanage because it is really a home and the 100 children call the couple that started it mom and dad. Wow! This is a heartwarming story and I urge all who read this to consider taking the tour. If you do, I doubt you will leave dry eyed. At the end of the tour and brunch, all the children come out and sing a few songs and then go around introducing themselves and hugging the visitors. What a wonderful experience! The tour is every Tuesday at 9:30 AM at 355 San Luis Potosi. They ask for a donation of 250 pesos. You can contact them at [email protected] to let them know you are coming or to ask questions about this incredible program. James Thacker

Dear Editor, I asked this question about a year ago and didn’t get a response, so I’m going to ask it again. Why don’t the new buses have license plates? I thought ALL motor vehicles that use the streets are required to have a current license. Is there some special consideration because they are natural gas powered? Or, because they are natural gas powered, the state hasn’t figured out a fee schedule for these buses? Pablo Gonzalez G.

Dear Editor, I would like to inform you and your readers that today at 4:15 p.m. I witnessed through my binoculars two Jet Skiers out harassing a mother whale and her calf about a half mile from shore. Running right over top of them putting themselves in danger and the mother and calf. When did the human race get so stupid and thoughtless? Maybe the Jet Ski rental operators need to be educated on keeping our bay safe for the marine life we have and enjoy, this should be common knowledge for a fifth grader but I don’t often see them renting Jet Ski! They often have inferior primary and secondary education. They must leave isolated home communities to attend school in a culturally different urban environment. Get out your party hats, put on your dancing shoes and mark the date on your calendar: Friday, January 24th, 2020! The season is in full swing now and this will be the best Shuffle ever! The Shuffle, now in its tenth season, is put on every second Friday by a large group of businesses centered on the 200 and 300 blocks of Basilio Badillo, in the heart of the Romantic Zone. The party goes from 6 to 10 p.m., and is an event that both locals and visitors look forward to with great anticipation. The participating businesses (art galleries, shops, restaurants, clubs and theaters) all serve complimentary beverages. Whether you want to meet our local artists, or do some serious shopping, or listen to some great music, or just walk around Vallarta’s favorite neighborhood soaking up the festive atmosphere, the Shuffle is a wonderful way to spend your Friday night. The majority of the participating businesses are located on the 200 and 300 blocks of Basilio Badillo. But there are also some great places to stop on nearby Constitución, V. Carranza and I.L. Vallarta Streets. In fact, the organizers have made sure that this experience is a “compact” one. All the participants are located within a few short blocks, so no matter how “happy” you get with all your complimentary drinks, you can still visit every location with ease. The Shuffle has so much to offer. One of the main attractions is shopping. By chance, many of Vallarta’s finest shops and galleries are located on the principle block of the party. Fine art, jewelry and Mexican crafts of the very best quality can be found in abundance, not to mention some great food and fabulous entertainment. All the businesses on this magical stretch of Basilio Badillo and Constitución streets have something special to offer. For the opportunity to ogle, mingle, tipple and even purchase some really wonderful art, it is an event not to be missed. The Southside Shuffle really is a must. You’ll have a ton of fun.

So don’t forget to put it on your calendar: Friday, January 24th, from 6 to 10 p.m. Next Shuffle: February 7th ! 20 Miss Conception and Branden & James Return to The Palm

SudokuSUDOKU! is a logic-based placement puzzle The aim of the puzzle is to enter a numerical digit from 1 through 9 in each row, column and group of squares enclosed by the bold lines (also called a box). Each box must contain each number only once, starting with various digits given in some cells (the “givens”). Each row, column, and region must contain only one instance of each numeral. Completing the puzzle requires patience. It is recommended as therapy because some studies have suggested they might improve memory, attention and problem solving while staving off mental decline and perhaps reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
