Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project 16th Issue SEPTEMBER 2020 Custom Hiring Centre Heralds The Mechanization Movement In The State Mechanization of agricultural operations increases the resource use efficiency reduces drudgery as well as the cost of cultivation. Most of the farmers in the State (86%) fall under small and marginal category. Their fragmented and small land holding often pushes them back before taking any decision on purchasing machines. The much needed mechanization of agriculture in Assam has taken a leap under the initiative of the World Bank funded Govt of Assam Project, the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART). Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project 2 Custom Hiring Centers (CHCs) for farm implements is the best suited model for the small and marginal farmers to make the access of machineries at their door step. It is a model to popularize farm mechanization with cutting edge technology amongst resource-poor farmers at a minimal affordable cost. Assam Agricultural University with the technical support of International Rice Research Institute under APART has identified few farmer producer organizations/ farmer producer companies/farmers group in different districts and handed over the machineries purchased by AAU and placed at the KVKs/RARSs. These machines are handed over for a specific period to the CHCs with the expectation to increase the accessibility of machines to the farmers who are unable to purchase the machines on their own. Presently, ten CHCs have been established under APART. Out of ten CHCs as of now, three Custom Hiring Centers have been inaugurated in September 2020. Inauguration of custom hiring centre at Sorbhog, Barpeta Shri Ranjeet Kumar Dass, MLA, Sorbhog LAC & Ex Speaker, Assam Legislative Assembly inaugurated the Custom Hiring Centre (CHC) on 2nd September, 2020 at Meda, a village under Chakchaka Development Block, Barpeta.

The Secret Agreement : Courtesy of North East Sun, January 15, 2010 Signed between the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Government of India in 1986, the Mizo Accord so far remains the only successful Accord in the country. Security experts even refer to it as 'the only insurgency in the world which ended with a stroke of pen'. Mizoram witnessed two decades of insurgency which had broken out in 1960s and ended on June 30, 1986 when Pu Laldenga signed a Memorandum of Settlement with the representatives of Government of India and Government of Mizoram. Deepak Dewan writes about the 'Confidential' agreement signed by Late Pu Laldenga with Congress leader Arjun Singh. Incidentally this agreement led to the signing of the Mizo Accord. IT WAS A CHILLY WINTER AND AS SUCH January is the coldest month of winter in Delhi. I was on a mission to meet Pu Laldenga who was put up in a safe house somewhere in south Delhi, provided by the Government of India. I along with my photographer landed at the house in Chirag Enclave early morning at about 6.45 am and before the guard posted outside could react, I rang the doorbell A minute after a teenaged boy opened the door. While I was asking him about Pu Laldenga, someone interrupted "Come in. I am Laldenga". and a man with good built stretched out his right hand towards me. I shook hands with him and intro duced myself. "I am Deepak Dewan from Sun. I want to have a chat with you"." Repeat your name once again", Pu Laldenga said.

  • Address by the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind at a Special Session of Mizoram Legislative Assembly
ADDRESS BY THE PRESIDENT OF INDIA, SHRI RAM NATH KOVIND AT A SPECIAL SESSION OF MIZORAM LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY Aizawl, November 30, 2017 1. This is my first visit to Mizoram after being elected President of India. I am truly happy to be here and thank the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the Chief Minister and all the other members of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly for inviting me to address this House. 2. Mizoram is special in India. It stands out for a very mature and dignified political culture. This Assembly is the true embodiment of Mizoram’s political culture as well as of the will and aspirations of the people of the state. We are aware of the three Ds of the legislature. This is a place to debate, dissent and finally decide. Yet there are other principles to follow too. Ideally, the functioning of the legislature should be marked by dignity and decorum. And the political system should not allow differences to become disputes. 3. While these principles are cherished in all democracies, they are not always followed. Sometimes, there are unfortunate disruptions. Here, I must commend and congratulate the Assembly of Mizoram. In its 45-year history, it has established a reputation for smooth conduct of business. The behaviour and participation of its members – of all of you, I should say – has conformed to the highest standards. This Assembly is a role model for our democracy and for how a legislative House should function. 4. The sense of honour and dignity that one sees in public life in Mizoram is heart-warming.
