Major Themes of the Exhibit The Life of Alvin York York’s background in Pall Mall, Tennessee is examined, his induction into the army, the events of October 8, 1918 and the creation of York as an American icon in the years after . Over There Exploring American involvement in World War I – the American Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and the diversity of American troops in Europe. The Science of Geographic Information Systems and Battleground Recovery Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology was used to integrate historic maps, reports, and other documents in a spatial database that recreated the landscape as it was in October, 1918. A surface metal detector survey was conducted to locate artifacts related to the fight.
