He is Director, Patlex Business Solutions, a Knowledge Process Outsourcing firm. He is an entrepreneur with interests in innovation, law, patents and research and development. He is a registered patent agent with Indian Patent office.

He carries with him 13+ years of experience in pharmaceutical industry and law firms in the Intellectual Property Rights area. During this tenure, he served various organizations like Ranbaxy, Wockhardt and Glenmark Pharmaceuticals.

M. Pharm in Pharmaceutics by qualification, he also did his LLB later. He also worked as a book reviewer for Oxford University Press’ Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice.

He is also associated as “Mentor of Change” with Niti Aayog's Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL). This is Government of India program and the concept is a strategic nation building initiative as a part of which, would be working with the young minds, especially the students in the area of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Motivation.

Session I: Introduction to IPR and its significance by Mr. Vijaykumar Shivpuje

The session covered various types of Intellectual Property Rights like Patents, Copyright, Industrial Design, Trademark, Trade Secret, Geographical indications, Plant Breeder’s rights and others. Various local examples and illustrations related to various types of Intellectual Property Rights were included in the presentation.

Significance and relevance of various Intellectual Property rights for Science, Arts, and Agricultural products was discussed in detail. The importance of Intellectual Property Rights in academia, especially in relation to NAAC, NBA, and NIRF was also highlighted in this session.

The participants asked questions about plagiarism and copyright, patenting cost and tenure required for patenting processes.

Session II: Indian Patents Act, 1970 by Mr. Atul Khade. This session covered the legal aspects of patenting, specifically Indian Patents Act, 1970. It included the patentability criteria and the non-patentable subject matter.

The legal basis of patents in India, its legislation and details about patenting procedures were covered in the session. There was detailed discussion on section 3 of the Indian Patents Act, 1970.

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University Vishnupuri, NANDED-431 606, (Maharashtra), India Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) organized by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, Maharashtra (RUSA) in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM), Nagpur on 24th August 2016 for the faculty and research students of post graduate courses.

Intellectual Property refers to creation of mind i.e. inventions, industrial designs for article, literary & artistic work, symbols etc. used in commerce. Intellectual property is divided into two categories: industrial property, which includes inventions (patents), trademarks, industrial designs, and geographic indications of source: and Copyright, which includes literary and artistic works such as novels, poems, plays, films and musical works etc. According to the TRIPS Agreement, the intellectual property has been classified into-Patents, Industrial Designs, Trade Marks, Copyright, Geographical Indications, Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits, protection of Undisclosed Information/Trade Secrets. Different IP Rights vary in the protection they provide.

India ranks 53rd nation in terms of the availability of competent scientists and engineers, however most of the research output has been presented in the form of publications and patents are in general from selected research institutes and laboratories except few universities. Indian universities though lagging behind in applied and commercial applicable research most researchers work on basic research. Most university researchers are unaware of information and methods related to patent filing. There is great need to upgrade them about the IPR and patent guidelines.

The main objective of workshop was to

1) Understanding about the Indian patent system 2) Understanding about the European and International patent system 3) Procedure and practices for filing patent application 4) Understanding of the tools/database on patent information

More than two hundred participants registered for the workshop, and workshop was inaugurated as per the following schedule.

Mumbai, Dr. G. N. Shinde, Hon’ble Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. D. P. Panaskar, Convener & Director, BCUD, Mr. B. B. Patil, Registrar, Dr. G. B. Katalakute, FAO and Dr. S. J. Wadher, Co-convener was present for function.

Prof. D. B. Panaskar, Convener and Director, BCUD has delivered the introductory remarks and objectives of this workshop.

Dr. Jaya Goyal, Sr. Consultant, RUSA, Mumbai in her speech highlights the need of such types of workshop for teachers and research students to protect the invention.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Pandit Vidyasagar sir in his presidential remark explained the importance of patents. SRTM University has very good staff who can work for patentable research. He pledged in next one year university will file 10 patents. University has very good track record about research progress. Two projects have got RUSA funding.

More than 200 participants from affiliated colleges and campus schools have registered. Highlight of workshop a farmer from Ardhapur taluka district Nande d and electrician from Nande d we re present.

Dr. Kulkarni has explained what is patent and its importance to India and university educational system. Also detailed what can be patented and what cannot be patented.

Dr. Thakur detailed the various aspects of patent filling, drafting patent, various forms need to fill up and examination of patent.

One Day National seminar on Intellectual Property Rights was organized by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), on 16th March 2017 for Research Students and Faculty. IPR Cell To create awareness among the researchers about the protection of their inventions and provide guidance to academic and nonacademic staff, research students, scholar and other on the practices and the rules of Intellectual Property Rights the IPR Cell has been constituted in the University. Objectives of IPR Cell: 1. To protect the interest of invention of the inventor in creation and commercialization of research work. 2. To promote IPR culture among the staff and researchers of the University. 3. To look after the activities related to the Intellectual Property of the University.

About Seminar This seminar focuses on various aspects of Intellectual property Rights and the objectives of this workshop is to create awareness among research students and teachers on protection of Intellectual rights, different issues and regarding capacity building on Intellectual property rights. The seminar will be valuable to researcher to understand role of IP in innovation and technology transfer and also support the creation of a strong IP ecosystems. It also covers: 1.
