CANOPY RAINFALL INTERCEPTION MEASURED OVER TEN YEARS IN A COASTAL PLAIN LOBLOLLY PINE (PINUS TAEDA L.) PLANTATION M. J. Gavazzi, G. Sun, S. G. McNulty, E. A. Treasure, M. G. Wightman ABSTRACT. The area of planted pine in the southern U.S. is predicted to increase by over 70% by 2060, potentially alter- ing the natural hydrologic cycle and water balance at multiple scales. To better account for potential shifts in water yield, land managers and resource planners must accurately quantify water budgets from the stand to the regional scale. The amount of precipitation as rainfall intercepted by forest canopies is an important component of evapotranspiration in for- ested ecosystems, yet there is little information about intra- and inter-annual canopy interception variability in southern pine plantations. To address this knowledge gap, canopy rainfall interception was measured between 2005 and 2014 in a North Carolina coastal plain loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) plantation to quantify the range of annual and seasonal varia- bility in interception rates (IRs) as influenced by stand thinning and natural variation in rainfall rates and intensities. Over the study period, biweekly measured canopy IRs averaged 19% across all years, with a range of 14% to 23%. How- ever, at the annual scale, IRs averaged 12% and ranged from 2% to 17%. Thinning resulted in a 5% decrease in rainfall interception, but IRs quickly returned to pre-thin levels. Across years, the amount of annual rainfall intercepted by the canopy averaged 15% of total evapotranspiration, with a range of 2% to 24%. The decade-long data indicate that inter- annual variability of canopy interception is higher than reported in short-term studies. -

Flag Football Rules and Regulations of Play GENERAL INFORMATION: WAIVERS Ø In order to participate in the league, each participant must sign the waiver. TEAMS AND PLAYERS Ø All players must be at least 21 years of age to participate, adequately and currently health-insured, and registered with NIS, including full completion of the registration process. Ø Teams consist of 7 players on the field, 2 being female, with other team members as substitutes. All players must be in uniform. No more than 5 men may be on the field at one time. Ø Any fully registered player who has received a team shirt and does not wear it the day of the game can be asked for photo ID during check in. Ø There is no maximum number of players allowed on a team’s roster. Ø Captains will submit an official team roster to NIS prior to the first night of the session. Roster changes are allowed up until the end of the fifth week of play. After the third week, no new names may be added to a team’s roster. Only players on the roster will be eligible to play. Ø A team must field at least 5 of its own players to begin a game, with at least one being female. Ø Substitute players must sign a waiver prior to playing and pay the $15/daily fee the day of the game. Subs are eligible for the playoffs if they participate in at least 3 regular-season games. A maximum of 2 subs is allowed each week unless a team needs more to reach the minimum number of players (7). -

A reception is when the ball is caught on offense. 15. An interception is when the defense catches the ball. 16. When a punt is blocked, it can be advanced for a touchdown. 17. Three major penalties are holding, clipping, and a personal foul. 18. There are 11 players on the field at one time for each team. 19. If the defense recovers a fumble in the offenses end zone, it is a touchdown. -

Flag Football Rules Divisions Men’s and Women’s Leagues are offered Sub divisions may be created upon need of skill level 1. Team Requirements 1.1 A team shall consist of seven players. A team can play with a minimum of 6 players. 1.2 The offensive team must have 4 players within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage at the time of the snap. 1.3 All players must have checked in with the scorekeeper and be recorded on the game sheet before they are allowed to participate. 1.4 Substitutions are allowed between plays and during time-outs. 1.5 All games shall be played on the date and hour scheduled. BE ON TIME. 2. Equipment and Facilities 2.1 All players must wear shoes. 2.2 Rubber cleated shoes will be allowed. No metal screw-in cleats, open toe, open heel or hard soled shoes will be allowed. 2.3 Each player must wear pants or shorts without any belt(s), belt loop(s), pockets(s) or exposed drawstrings. A player may turn his/her shorts inside-out or tape his/her pockets in order to play. 2.4 All jewelry must be removed before participating. 2.5 Towels may not be worn, a towel may be kept behind the play. 2.6 Equipment such as helmets, billed hats, pads or braces worn above the waist, leg and knee braces made of hard, unyielding substances, or casts is strictly prohibited. Knee braces made of hard, unyielding substances covered on both sideswith all edges overlapped and any other hard substances covered with at least 2 inch of slow recovery rubber or similar material will be allowed. -

LV GRIDIRON ADULT FLAG FOOTBALL 5v5 LEAGUE RULES Rules and Regulations RULE 1: THE GAME, FIELD, PLAYERS & EQUIPMENT Section 1 – The Game • No contact allowed. • NO BLOCKING/SCREENING anytime or anywhere on the field. Offensive players not involved with a play down field must attempt to get out of the way or stand still. • A coin toss determines first possession. • Play starts from the 5 yard line. The offensive teams has (3) plays to cross mid-field. Once team crosses mid-field, they will have three (3) plays to score a touchdown. • If the offensive team fails to cross mid-field or score, possession of the ball changes and the opposite team starts their drive from their 5-yard line. • Each time the ball is spotted a team has 25 seconds to snap the ball. • Games consist of 2-15 minute halves. Teams will flip sides at beginning of 2nd half. Half time will be 1 minutes. • Overtime; 1st overtime from 5 line, 2nd overtime if still tied from 10 yard line, 3rd overtime if still tied 15 yard line. After 3rd time if still tied game is scored as a tie. • Spot of ball is location of the ball when play is ruled dead Section 2 – Attire • Teams may use their own flags. • Shirts with numbers are mandatory for stats RULE 2: PLAYERS/GAME SCHEDULES, SCORING & TIME OUTS Section 1 – Players/Game Schedules • If a team or teams are more than 10 minutes late for their scheduled games they will be forfeited. 2020 6U Flag Football Rules This is about the 4-6 year olds on the field having fun, loving & learning football, and hopefully eventually playing 8U flag and tackle football. There is NOT a 6U Flag Champion so make it about the kids not the coaches or parents! 1. One coach from each team should have a whistle to officiate during the game, working together to keep it safe, enforce rules, and keep it flowing. Coach between snaps and blow the whistle during live play. 2. All players must wear a mouth piece and flag belts with 3 flags and clip. No tying flag belts. 3. 4v4 Coach is the QB; Keep score (points are TD = 6 & PAT = 1); No overtime 4. Up to 2 coaches allowed on the field (both on offense & defense) to call plays and align the kids 5. Field: “Half Field” 25 yards to goal line. Width is 20 yards wide. End Zone is 10 yards deep. 6. No Game Clock: The game will consist of at least 4 offensive possessions for each team or up to 45 minutes to 50 minutes of play. a. This should equate to approximately 16-20 plays each, about equivalent of four 8 min running quarters. b. A possession is up to 4 downs plus a PAT if the offense scores. No first downs. c. PATs are from the 5 yard line and must be a forward pass beyond the line of scrimmage (LOS) d. No Play Clock & No Time Outs; however coaches should strive to take less than 45 seconds to call their play and align the kids in the formation. -

COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFFICIATING, LLC 2020 NCAA FOOTBALL PLAY INTERPRETATIONS BULLETIN NO. 1 Prohibited Field Equipment – Rule 1-4-11 Play #1: The Head Coach of the home team is in quarantine, and wants to monitor the TV broadcast and (a) call in plays via cell phone to the offensive coordinator (b) use a virtual application (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.) to communicate with the team in the locker room. RULING: Rule 1-4-11-b is very specific and allows only voice communications between the press box and the team area, therefore in (a) the coach could not call into the press box or the sideline for anything related to coaching purposes. Rule 1-4-11-a would prohibit the use of technology including computers to be used for coaching purposes and this would include all virtual types of communication back to a team during the game, consequently in (b) any virtual session with the team would not be allowed. This prohibition would begin at 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff when the officiating crew assumes jurisdiction of the game and would include the time between periods until the end of the game when the Referee declares the score final. Safety – Rule 8-5-1 & Fumble Rule 7-2-2 Exceptions Play #2: 4/Goal @ B8. Runner A44 is hit at the B-5 and fumbles, and B54 bats the grounded loose ball at the B-3 back into his own end zone.
