Ted Bishop and Randy Smith Headline Met PGA Fall Meeting, Special METROPOLITAN PGA Awards Presentation & Fall Forum at Bethpage State Park on Oct. 29th OFFICERS

Heath Wassem , Fenway GC Our upcoming Fall Meeting & Fall Forum will be at Bethpage State Park on Wednesday, President Oct. 29th. PGA President will be an honored guest as he returns to the spot where he made the historic announcement one year ago of the PGA’s plan to come to Brian Crowell, GlenArbor GC Bethpage Black for the 2019 PGA and 2024 Ryder Cup. The Fall Meeting enables the Secretary members to celebrate the 2014 season and review the activities of the Section and help Carl Alexander, GC of Purchase set the course for the coming year with the election of officers and the Nominating Treasurer Committee. Met PGA Golf Night with the NY Islanders at Nassau Coliseum on Oct. 16th NOMINATING COMMITTEE Chris Case, Mount Kisco CC We are excited that one of our next efforts in the Player Development arena to promote Joe Felder, Griff Harris GC golf will take place at the Nassau Coliseum on Oct. 16th when we once again set up a teaching net and encourage non-golfers and golfers alike to come in for a free 10 minute Bobby Heins, Old Oaks CC lesson. A golf theme will run throughout the night’s activities as the Islanders face the Tom Henderson, Round Hill Club San Jose Sharks. Gene Borek Squire Cup Teams Square Off at Country Club of Fairfield

Our congratulations to the assistant professionals who have been selected for the 2014 Gene Borek Squire Cup team. They will compete against a team of their head professional counterparts at Country Club of Fairfield on Tuesday, Oct. 7th. These matches honor the memory of Gene Borek and his legacy as a leader, player and the ultimate professional. The matches are sponsored by Cutter & Buck and Paul McManus. Lincoln Met PGA Pro-Lady Championships Set for Patterson & Rockville Links

The close of our tournament season is always marked by the Pro-Lady championships on the October schedule. This year’s Lincoln sponsored events include two great venues – Patterson Club in Fairfield, CT on Monday, Oct. 6th and Rockville Links Club in Rockville Centre on Long Island on Thursday, Oct. 23rd. Both of these shotgun events are modified Pinehurst events that pair our professionals with their women’s champion or top lady amateur from the club.

The Bridge, Cherry Valley, Garden City Golf Club, Hempstead, Hudson National, Rolling Hills St. Andrews Golf Club, Seawane and Westchester Country Club Among our Charitable Leaders

We will have a more complete report at the Fall Meeting but wanted to offer our sincere appreciation to the above clubs for their incredible support of Junior Golf and/or Patriot Golf Day. These eight clubs are responsible for over a quarter of a million dol- lars in funds raised to support the two charities that the Met PGA has identified as ours. We expect that several other clubs will also be reporting additional success stories and will try to have a complete accounting by the end of this month on our current standings for contributions to Met PGA Junior Golf and Folds of Honor.

Treiber Memorial Wraps up Player of the Year Race - 2015 Match Play Exemptions Are Still Up for Grabs

Wheatley Hills Golf Club plays host to our annual conclusion to the Met PGA Player of the Year race and for the coveted Treiber trophies and the title in this event. Grant Sturgeon, behind three wins (Met Open, National Car rental Met PGA Assis- tants and MasterCard Westchester PGA) has locked up the Section title while Craig Thomas has an impressive lead in the seniors standings. Professionals are also reminded that the point standings are used for the Match Play exemptions for 2015. Qualifying for players (both in the regular and in the senior divisions) who are not exempt for this Tournament of Champions will be on Tuesday, Oct. 14th and the championship runs on the 15th – 17th with a cut after each round.

PGA Senior Professional Championship Moves to PGA Golf Club in November

We will have a very strong contingent of players traveling to Port St. Lucie and the Ryder & Wanamaker Courses at PGA Golf Club on Nov. 13th -16th for the PGA Senior Professional Championship. In addition to our Met PGA Senior Champion Craig Thomas of Metropolis, and Tom Joyce of Glen Oaks (exempt) our other qualifiers were Charlie Bolling, Bill Van Orman (Meadow Brook), David Young (Sleepy Hollow), Bobby Heins (Old Oaks), Mike Diffley (Pelham), Mark Mielke (Mill River), Shawn Baker (Greens at Half Hollow) and our 1st alternate, Darrell Kestner (Deepdale).

Atlantic City Pro-Am Field is Nearly Filled

We have a full field but can still take a couple more teams for our Atlantic City Pro-Am event on Oct. 19th - 21st at Atlantic City Country Club and Hidden Creek while the hotel and gaming competition will be at The Water Club at the Borgata. Assistants Association Prepares for Officers Elections at Fall Meeting on Oct. 27th at Tamarack

The Assistants Association puts a wrap on their season with the closing Assistant-Assistant tournament and their Fall Meeting at Tamarack Country Club on Monday, Oct. 27th. The Fall Meeting includes an election of the Assistants Association officers and the presentation of the Gil McNally (most improved player) Award and Stroke Average Award. Please check the Assistants Asso- ciation page for more details on the election and the team event.

Two Spots Available for 2014 Met PGA Pinehurst Pro-Am

We still have two openings for Pinehurst for those who want to experience the incredible site of the 2014 US Open and US Women’s Open. Contact Jeff Voorheis if you might still be able to put together a team.

MSR Deadline is Next June 15th.

If you are like about 50% of the membership and have still not fulfilled your current MSR requirements, please note that you only have until June 15th, 2015 to avoid a transfer to Class F. Make sure you fulfill both the PGA “Required” category and the total MSR requirements. Click here for a list of upcoming opportunities.

Dick Santucci Attains Half-Century Membership Status

One of the great accolades and achievements in the PGA is recognition of Half-Century status in the PGA. Com- pleting 50 years of membership puts any PGA professional in a very elite class. Dick Santucci, long-time profes- sional at Rye among other posts has not only achieved this milestone but is still active supporting and instructing at many of our Play Golf America events. Congratulations to Richard Santucci.

KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

Later this month and at the Fall Meeting we will begin a concentrated effort to promote the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and to let our professionals know how they can help. The fact that this “major” will be played at Westchester Country Club next June and that our PGA Members and especially our women professionals will have a chance to help this succeed is truly im- portant to our Section and to the PGA of America. We will look forward to reaching out to everyone in the coming weeks.

The Met Section is pleased to announce five new additions to our Membership Roster. Our newest PGA Members include Zach Baron, an A-20 member employed by Arccos Golf; Kevin Breen, A-8 member with Nelson Long at Century CC, Connor McCaffrey and Nick Torcivia, both of whom are assistants on the staff of Jamie Kilmer at Wheat- ley Hills Golf Club and Richard Turck, an A-8 assistant to Adam McDaid at Friar’s Head. Congratulations to all of our new PGA members on their accomplishment.

Angela Aulenti Wins Prestigious Nancy Lopez Golf Achievement Award

The LPGA has named our own Angela Aulenti of Sterling Farms and E. Gaynor Brennan in Stamford as their 2014 Nancy Lopez Golf Achievement Award recipient. The national honor recognizes an outstanding member of the LPGA’s Teaching and Club Professionals division who reflects qualities valued by Hall of Fame legend Lopez: leadership, passion, giving and approachabil- ity. Angela is currently in her third term as President of the LPGA T & CP Northeast Section, was inducted into the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame in 2012, was named LPGA Professional of the Year in 2011 and won the 2014 Callaway National Clubfitter Award.

Debbie Doniger and Natalie Gulbis Team Up for Monthly SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio Show - “The Golfer Girls”

On Sept. 24th, SiriusXM Radio inaugurated a brand new radio program entitled “The Golfer Girls with Natalie Gulbis and Debbie Doniger.” Debbie will join LPGA Tour star Gulbis to focus on, but not be limited to the world of women’s golf. The program will air monthly on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio (XM Channel 93, Sirius Channel 208).

Five Apprentices Receive William A. Mitchell Scholarship Fund Assistance

Stephen Clark of Westchester Country Club, Jessica Carafiello of Innis Arden GC, Maren Crowley of Huntington Country Club, Christopher Hauff of Westchester Hills GC and Austin Rentz of Hampshire will all receive awards from the 2014 William A. Mitchell Scholarship Fund. Both Maren Crowley and Jessica Carafiello were on hand at Innis Arden for the announcement and presentation at the recent Mitch Pro-Am.

New Arrival

It’s a boy – Cooper James Guyton joins big sister Colby Rose in the home of Wheatley Hills’ John and Kristen Guyton. Cooper was born on Monday, Sept. 29th at 8 pounds, 9 ounces. All are doing well!

Wedding Belles

Our three-time Met PGA Player of the Year (2010-2012) Danny Balin enjoyed the spotlight for a far more significant ceremony with his bride Lindsay Wenger on Sunday, Sept. 28th when he pronounced “I do” in front of friends and family on Long Island. Congratulations to Danny and Lindsay on their recent nuptials.

Puetz and Polland Advance

Congratulations to Huntington Country Club’s Tim Puetz on his tie for 7th in the first stage of European Tour qualifying and to Ben Polland of Deepdale on moving past the pre-qualifying round for the web.com tour qualifying. How are You with the Rules?

PGA Professionals are generally expected to be the Rules experts at their club or course but more often than not, they are not prepared for that role and the stress of issues that arise at their course in events. There may be no better investment in the business than attending a PGA/USGA Rules Workshop.
