[PDF] Gratis Lio Happiness Is a Squishy Register Free To Download Files | File Name : Lio Happiness Is A Squishy Cephalopod: 1 PDF LIO HAPPINESS IS A SQUISHY CEPHALOPOD: 1 Tapa blanda 1 enero 2000 Author : Mark Tatulli Descripcin del productoBiografa del autorMark Tatulli, who was first known for his Heart of the City comic strip, took onLio as an outlet for his dark and twisted humor. In addition to his cartooning experience, Tatulli is also an accomplished filmmaker and animator, and is the recipient of three Emmy awards for his television work.Mark currently resides in New Jersey with his wife, son, and two daughters. His children are the true joy of his life and the inspiration for much of his comic artwork.Online:gocomics.com/lio Weird Kid Weird Komic I discovered Lio not longer after the strip debuted, and it rapidly became one of my favorite, if not sole favorite, comic strips. Its a little hard to explain what Lio is about. The title character is a small boy who is absolutely brilliant and utterly twisted -- you can easily imagine him growing up to be a mad scientist. His pets are the oft-seen giant squid and spider, and the less-seen dragon and extraordinarily arrogant cat (possibly the only character in the strip the Lio actually obeys.)The imagination level of the strip is on a par with Calvin and Hobbes, and I honestly think Mark Tatulli, the strip's creator, may be the long-awaited heir to Bill Watterson's throne. Now, this isn't as "innocent" as C&H was -- there's no sweetness or sentimentality here. But its gone the same "I wish my childhood was like that" feel. Its also important to note that its done with (practically) no dialogue. The lead characters (basically, Lio and his dad) never speak, and any other dialogue is only used when absolutely necessary. That alone speaks volumes to Tatulli's skill as a cartoonist. And for fans of comic strip in general, the strip is a treat, because Lio occasionally gets "involved" with characters from other strips. This collection includes "visits" to Peanuts, Cathy, and Mary Worth (of all things) to name three off the top of my head. (Though unfortunately, the screamingly funny For Better or For Worse strip will presumably appear in the next collection.)I can't recommend Lio highly enough. If your taste in comic strip runs towards The Family Circus and For Better or For Worse, its not for you. But if you like twisted comics, Lio is a must read. And you'll be able to brag you were a Lio fan before everyone else was. At Last, A Successor!... In HAPPINESS IS A SQUISHY CEPHALOPOD, Tatulli captures the essence of (mostly silent) gallow's humour, mixed w/ an irresistible kid's-eye-view. LIO is the kid next door who just happens to be a mad scientist, monster enthusiast, and all around anarchist! Lio, the previously mentioned mad scientist child, loves cephalopods, captures aliens, experiments on his father, and has giant spider pets. Many of the jokes might be predictable if this were a comic book about a regular boy but are instead gleefully original as Lio puts a new spin on what we consider a 'normal' life. Measuring Anti-Americanism in Editorial Cartoons By: Mark Long, Rick L. Bunch, and Robert Earl Lloyd Long, M., Bunch, R.L., & Lloyd, R.E. (2009). Measuring anti-Americanism in editorial cartoons. Social Science Quarterly, 90, 652-673. DOI: 10.1111/j.1540-6237.2009.00636.x. ***Note: This version of the document is not the copy of record. Made available courtesy of Wiley-Blackwell. The definitive version is available at www3.interscience.wiley.com. ***Note: Figures may be missing from this version of the document. Abstract: Objective- Anti-Americanism has been subjected to minimal statistical analysis. Further, scant attention is paid to what constitutes anti-Americanism for Americans. The objective of this article is to measure Americans' perceptions of anti-Americanism. Methods- Using a range of quantitative methods, including Pearson's correlation coefficient, Shannon's entropy measure, and Cohen's d statistics, we measure students' evaluations of editorial cartoons after 9/11. Twin measures of message and equity, along with participant and cartoon variables, are used to calibrate anti-Americanism in Spanish and U.S. editorial cartoons. Results- Our results indicate that message ratings, that is, anti- or pro-American, were more dependent on the nature of the cartoons than of the participants. White males rated these editorial cartoons as more equitable than other participants. The study shows that Spanish cartoons were rated significantly more anti-American. Conclusion- The article concludes that the use of U.S. icons is key to seeing anti-Americanism, along with gender, race, and origin of cartoon. Article: Anti-Americanism is increasingly salient in popular and scholarly discourses in the United States in this early part of the 21st century, as America's image has “plummeted throughout much of the world” (Kohut, 2007:13).

  • Representations of Hiv/Aids in Popular American Comic Books, 1981- 1996
REPRESENTATIONS OF HIV/AIDS IN POPULAR AMERICAN COMIC BOOKS, 1981- 1996 William Richard Avila A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2021 Committee: Jeffrey Brown, Advisor Michael Decker Graduate Faculty Representative William Albertini Timothy Messer-Kruse © 2021 William Richard Avila All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeffery Brown, Advisor From 1981-1996, the United States experienced an epidemic of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) that held profound implications for issues ranging from civil rights, public education, and sexual mores, to government accountability, public health, and expressions of heterosexism. Popular comic books that broached the subject of HIV/AIDS during the U.S. epidemic elucidate how America’s discourse on the disease evolved in an era when elected officials, religious leaders, legal professionals, medical specialists, and average citizens all struggled to negotiate their way through a period of national crisis. The manner whereby comic book authors, illustrators, and publishers engaged the topic of HIV/AIDS changed over time but, because comic books are an item of popular culture primarily produced for a heterosexual male audience, such changes habitually mirrored the evolution of the nation’s mainstream, heteronormative debates regarding the epidemic and its sociocultural and political implications. Through studying depictions of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in popular comic books, alterations in the heterocentric, national discourse emerge revealing how homophobic dismissals of the “gay plague” in the early 1980s gave way to heterosexual panic in the mid-1980s, followed by the epidemic’s reinterpretation as a national tragedy in the late-1980s.
