Today, the Greater Sudbury Airport serves to function as more than the usual community aerodrome. It’s more than families, entrepreneurs, voyageurs and snow birds – rather, we’re seeing passion, ideas and investment into our community. Our citizens and the guests of our community have relied on our operations. We’re proud to serve as Northern Ontario’s preferred gateway airport. MAKING THE CONNECTION 3 Message from the Chair of the Board Typically, outgoing chairs tend to take a look back at their tenure and highlight some of the more attention grabbing developments and successes the organization has had. In keeping with the dynamic corporate culture at the Greater Sudbury Airport, this message focuses more on where we want to be and how we will get there. What has been abundantly clear during my tenure is that our success thus far, and ability to adapt to change for the future has been and will be driven by our people. Our directors, our executive team, our dedicated staff, our members, and our municipal partners all work tirelessly and collaboratively to provide our travellers with world-class services and facilities; driving economic development locally and reinforcing our place as “Northern Ontario’s Preferred Gateway”. The CEO’s message and this annual report highlight a number of these performance benchmarks for which the Greater Sudbury Airport, Council, and the community can be very proud. Supported and guided by our updated 2013 Operational Plan, our refreshed and recharged corporate vision, and our soon to be finalized Master Pan, our people have never been more ready to tackle the opportunities and challenges which lie ahead. We are financially sound, well capitalized, focused, and accountable. Our strategic decisions moving forward will embrace our role as an economic driver, a course that is well entrenched and fully supported by my fellow directors and successors on the executive committee. I would like to thank the Directors, the executive team and staff for their creative ideas, advice and hard work throughout my tenure. ORIGIN At the Planning and Economic Development Committee meeting on March 25, 2015, Staff Report No. PED-5-2015-3 was presented to the Committee with the following recommendation: “THAT the firms of Explorer Solutions Limited and Tetra Tech EBA Limited BE RETAINED to prepare an Economic Impact Assessment and Long Term Plan for the Muskoka Airport, at a cost not to exceed $54,715, excluding HST.” The Committee deferred a decision on the matter and requested that staff prepare a report for Committee’s consideration at the November, 2015 Committee meeting to outline options regarding how to proceed with the two projects and to ensure that appropriate funds would be presented during the 2016 budget deliberations. ANALYSIS In response to the issuance of Requests for Proposals for an Economic Impact Study and a Long Term Plan for the Muskoka Airport, three submissions were received. The firms of Explorer Solutions Limited and Tetra Tech EBA Limited made a strong combined submission that demonstrated extensive experience with the preparation of these types of documents for a variety of airports across Canada, including Brooks Regional Airport in Alberta, the Campbell River Airport on Vancouver Island, and the Greater Sudbury Airport and the Stanhope Airport in Ontario. They have also worked with a number of other airports on capital projects (terminal building expansions, runway expansions, zoning regulations, etc.).

    NEWSLETTER Volume 12 No.6 March 15, 2017 Regional Community Airports of Canada AIRPORT PROFILE: Bonnyville Regional Airport (CYBF), AB The Bonnyville Regional Airport is located 3 kilometers north of the Town of Bonnyville and occupies a land area of approximately 77.63 acres and is jointly operated by the Town of Bonnyville and the Municipal District of Bonnyville. The airport serves as a point of call for commercial, corporate and general aviation, and services both private and commercial rotary-wing and fixed-wing operators located on site. Bonnyville Air Services Ltd. provides charter service. The substantial construction of the Bonnyville Regional Airport came from the initial investment in the facility through the Alberta Airport Development Program in 1975. Through 1984, the airport saw the completion of a paved and lighted runway, taxiway and apron. A 1985 runway extension was supplemented by a 1992 final runway extension funded by Alberta Transportation and the Town of Bonnyville. Remedial pavement work was funded by Alberta Transportation with a 1985 pavement overlay and a 1994 fog seal. The Bonnyville Regional Airport is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and is capable of supporting Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations. Runway 08 and 26 have RNAV approaches with Vertical Guidance with Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) Overlay. Runway 08 only has Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV) available. The maneuvering area consists of one runway and a joining taxiway system plus an aircraft parking apron. The primary runway is 4,433 feet long by 75 feet wide, asphalt.

    RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF SUDBURY AIRPORT COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION RESOLUTION #2019-691 WHEREAS the Greater Sudbury Airport has experienced significant growth over the past number of years as a result of increased passenger travel, business development and infrastructure expansion; AND whereas the Greater Sudbury Airport must maintain regulatory compliance and the safety of its operations and ensure proper resources dedicated to managing new workload responsibilities related to this growth; AND whereas to comply with Transport Canada regulation enhancements and the increased demands on surface time availability for the Greater Sudbury Airport to perform maintenance duties, it is recommended that three (3) full time AFFS/Service persons and one (1) full time Technician III mechanic be added to the existing staffing resource compliment; AND whereas the financial implications of increasing airport staff has been vetted in detail, and have verified that the current business performance will be more than sufficient to offset the additional staffing costs; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Directors of the Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation (SACDC) approve the recommendations of the Organizational Structure report presented by the CEO, as attached hereto; FURTHER that the Board of Directors of the SACDC direct the CEO to work collaboratively with the City of Greater Sudbury to obtain the necessary approvals from City Council to add 4 Full Time Equivalent employees to the total airport employee complement.     January 2019 NEWSLETTER “A national organization dedicated to promoting the viability of Regional and Community Airports across Canada” www.rcacc.ca JJul RCAC MEMBER AIRPORT PROFILE: History of Fort St. John Airport (CYXJ) – Part 2 Jj Under the National Airports Policy, announced by Transport Canada in 1994, the North Peace Regional Airport became eligible for ownership by local interests. In January of 1997 the North Peace Airport Society signed documents transferring ownership from Transport Canada to the Society. As of March 18, 1997, the airport is operated by North Peace Airport Services Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Vancouver Airport Services. The North Peace Airport Society introduced an Airport Improvement Fee September 01, 1998 to raise funds for the renovation and construction of the Air Terminal Building. The new terminal building was completed in the fall of 2005. The North Peace Airport Society continues to work diligently to ensure that the airport is able to meet the needs of local industry and commerce. Planning for Fort St. John Air Show is Well Underway – by Scott Brooks, energeticcity.ca The planning for the 2019 Fort St. John Air Show is well underway. Fort St. John Air Show Events Organizer, Lana Neitz, says the 2019 event will be packed with talent and performers. “We’re looking at some really neat warbirds. We’re bringing the Kitty Hawk; we’re bringing in the Harvard’s of the Harmon Rockets… we were talking with some many performers down at the ICAS airshow convention. The Snowbirds will be here, and we’ve put in a request to the military to see if they will bring any other shows to do some tactical exercises.” According to Neitz, there will also be a huge fireworks display, and there will be some more performers added to the lineup as the show date draws near.
