Spread over 340 square meters (3659.73 square feet), the museum hosts eight exhibitions every year focused entirely on contemporary art. The spacious venue is flexible and can easily accommodate mixed media artworks, sculptures, paintings and quirky by Alexandre Dulaunoy installations. Banned in 1936 by the Third Reich authorities, the Kestner Gesellschaft reopened its gallery in the Warmbüchenstrasse in 1948. The Kestner Gesellschaft began to look for a suitable gallery when the old building became too outdated to meet the technical demands of present- by Axel Hindemith day art exhibitions. The ideal location for the new gallery was found in the center of the city in the former Goseriede Public Baths. Formed in 1930, the museum features some of the most significant collections with pictures and drawings by Wilhelm Busch who was one of Germany's greatest cartoonists and creator of the legendary comic figures. The museum was extended in the 1980s and now contains by Christian A.
