    NEWS RELEASE Contact: Kim Marggraf Background: www.KohlEducation.org mailto:[email protected] For Immediate Release: Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021 920-457-1727 office 920-946-3640 mobile 2021 Herb Kohl Foundation Excellence Scholarship, Initiative Scholarship, Fellowship, Leadership Award Recipients Announced Organization has impacted more than 8,300 people, 3,100 schools since 1990 MILWAUKEE — The selection committee for the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Student Scholarship, Teacher Fellowship and Principal Leadership program has announced recipients of the 317 Herb Kohl Foundation awards for Wisconsin students, teachers and principals. Awards in the amount of $6,000 are being made to 101 teachers, 16 principals, and their schools, and $10,000 scholarships will be given to 200 graduating high school students. Excellence Scholarship recipients have demonstrated excellence in the academic arena and high motivation to achieve, have displayed a broad range of activity and leadership outside the academic setting, and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond. Fellowship recipients are educators who have been chosen for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to motivate others, and their leadership and service within and outside the classroom. Leadership Award recipients are school principals who are being recognized for setting high standards for instruction, achievement and character, and creating a climate to best serve students, families, staff and community. Excellence Scholarship, Fellowship and Leadership Award recipients are selected by a statewide committee composed of civic leaders, and representatives of education-related associations and the program’s co-sponsors: The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools (WCRIS), regional Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESA), the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, and the Wisconsin Homeschool Parents Association.

We are excited to be on the field with our student athletes. This has been a challenging year for many people and we want you to know that the Sun Prairie Football family is here for you. This season we are talking about undivided and what that means within our program. The song by Tim McGraw truly hits home on some great points that we want to touch upon in our program. As you can see we have decided to put the words undivided on our helmets as well. We want to spark change in our Sun Prairie Community and we believe it starts with our student athletes being positive role models for all. We talk about respect and what that looks like. We want to understand what it’s like to walk in someone else’s shoes and how we can help each other. We want to let everyone know that we are all in this great game of life togeth- er and together we can make this journey unbelievable. We are here for each other and are willing to have each other’s back in difficult situations.     A TRADITION OF SUCCESS ON AND OFF THE ICE Our Mission: The Cap City Cougars Varsity Hockey Program’s mission is to provide a competitive hockey experience at the varsity and junior varsity levels for students currently enrolled in our member schools. Ice hockey, at this level, demands hard work, commitment, self-discipline and a team-first mentality while emphasizing sportsmanship, respect, academic achievement and community service. We strive to inspire our players to stretch their limits and reach for their goals both on and off the ice. Our Program: The Cap City Cougars are a co-op varsity hockey program which includes girls from Madison East High School, Madison La Follette High School, DeForest High School, Waunakee High School, and host Sun Prairie High School. The Cougars begin their 12th season of WIAA competition this year as part of the Badger Conference (Sectional 3), joining the Madison Metro Lynx (Middleton), Badger Thunder (Baraboo), Viroqua High School, the Icebergs (Stoughton) and the Rock County Fury (Beloit) for conference play. Philosphy The coaching staff strongly believes in work ethic, respect for the game, and personal responsibility and promises to use our talents, experience, and love for the game to motivate and teach both on and off the ice. We believe that the game of hockey teaches wonderful life skills like teamwork, passion, integrity, sacrifice and humility and will strive to not only teach the game of hockey to our high school athletes but mentor these young athletes for success later in life. We believe that team success only comes when you first build a team from a group of individuals and will stress team building and personal expectations early and often this season.

On March 4, the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation announced the recipients of student Initiative Scholarships, student Excellence Scholarships, teacher Fellowships and principal Leadership awards. The March 24 luncheon will recognize the accomplishments of the area's outstanding students, educators and administrators. Twenty nine teacher Fellowship recipients, 26 Excellence Scholarship recipients, and 21 Initiative Scholarship recipients will be honored. Principal Leadership award recipient Amy Fassbender is unable to attend the event but will be honored at a luncheon on April 13 in Greenfield. Kim Marggraf, spokesperson for the Herb Kohl Foundation, said that Herb Kohl, representatives of co-sponsoring organizations Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools, Wisconsin Cooperative Educational Service Agencies, Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, Wisconsin Parents Association and the families and friends of south central, southwest and central Wisconsin award recipients will be part of this program. The Herb Kohl Foundation Excellence Scholarship was established by Herb Kohl to provide scholarships to graduating Wisconsin high school students who have demonstrated academic excellence, outstanding leadership, citizenship, community service, integrity, and other special talents.
