Introduction The Forth Valley and Lomond LEADER area encompasses the rural areas of Stirling, Clackmannanshire and West Dunbartonshire. The area crosses three local authority areas, two Scottish Enterprise regions, two Forestry Commission areas, two Rural Payments and Inspections Divisions, one National Park and one VisitScotland Region. An area criss-crossed with administrative boundaries, the geography crosses these boundaries, with the area stretching from the spectacular Highland mountain scenery around Crianlarich and Tyndrum, across the Highland boundary fault line, with its forests and lochs, down to the more rolling hills of the Ochils, Campsies and the Kilpatrick Hills until it meets the fringes of the urbanised central belt of Clydebank, Stirling and Alloa. -

Dunblane Learning Community Dear Parents and Carers, Many thanks to all parents and carers for your continued support during these uncertain and challenging times. Our staff have really appreciated the many messages of support that have been shared with the school. From Monday all Stirling Council employees which includes teachers, support staff and nursery staff, are either working remotely or will be volunteering across the public sector in different capacities including leading and supporting our Hub structures at Dunblane PS, Killearn PS, St Ninians PS, St Margaret’s PS and Callander PS. Teachers, support Staff and those working in schools are not on holiday. Our focus this week has been on supporting children in school and now we turn our attention to how we ensure our children who have parents working in frontline services are able to continue to go to work and we also must consider our vulnerable families. We are now planning how this will look for our families within the community of Dunblane. I understand all parents received a text message last night with a link to a questionnaire regarding childcare needs. As a learning community our three primary schools have been working together to ensure we have a consistent, manageable approach to support our families, pupils and staff. We have worked together to discuss, create and agree a plan moving forward, taking into account various factors and believe we have a plan that will work for everyone concerned. Using our normal platforms, Parentmail and Google Classroom (P5-7) and our website, parents will receive a home learning grid from Newton PS for their child/children to complete relevant tasks and learning opportunities at home. -

The new policy will see residents given 5 recycling boxes under the following collection timetable: 2 Week Collection: Brown Bin (Garden & Food Waste); Blue Bin (Plastic, Cans & Cartons); 4 Week Collection: Grey Bin (Non-Recyclables); Green Bin (Paper & Cardboard); Blue Bin Small (Glass) The service are keen to work with residents and CCs on this. For example with people living in flats sharing of bins will be a preference which should cut down on the number of bins. The service are also planning on running collections on a 7 day week basis – what time will this be – early Sunday mornings may not be appropriate. The service will be investing in new, rear loading collection vehicles which are easier to operate. It is important that residents and CCs make their views felt as I understand the revised service is due to be ‘live’ by September 2016. Update: At a meeting on Monday 19th Sept the only rural village that appeared to have the new bins was Doune? MINUTES Monday 1st April 2019 in the Village Club Draft Members Present: - Marian Lever; Grace Edmonds; Julie Hutchison; Mandy Watson; John Gray; Evelyn McDougall In attendance: Councillor Rob Davies; Police Constable Martin, Police Scotland; M Vass, SCDT; Pam Campbell SC +19 residents. (SC = Stirling Council. CC = Community Council. CDT= Community Development Trust * De- notes an action) 1. Welcome from the Chair ML welcomed everybody to the meeting. 2. Apologies and Declarations of Interest Apologies: Philip Graves. There were no declarations of interest. 3. Police Report PC Martin reported that there had been very little crime in the last month. The police continue to carry out road checks in the village to deter travelling criminals, drunk drivers etc. He highlighted Police Scotland’s national doorstep crime initiative, which has achieved significant results. There was a report of possible bogus workmen in the village and of suspicious people selling items around residential premises. There was also a report of a suspicious vehicle. Police attended these reports, but no crimes had been committed. PC Martin urged everyone to continue to report anything they think is suspicious. Hand held radar has been continuing in the area to detect speeding drivers. There were a num- ber of road accidents in the area, including one at the roundabout on Glasgow Road, but no seri- ous injuries. PC Martin has been talking to the Camera Safety Unit regarding the positioning of the camera van in the villages. ML asked PC Martin if they are planning to introduce the Herbert Protocol to help elderly people who wander. Families can complete a form with information about the person so that the police have something to work with immediately. -

NBG Report for KCC Meeting 19 Apr 2017 Further progress! The new fibre cabinet at the Killearn exchange is now live, accepting orders, and some residents have already got the service installed and working. Speeds are reported to be as expected at 30Mbps or more. So if you live in “The Trees”, nearby, or in the centre of the village, you should be able to get “super-fast broadband! About 50% of postcodes in the village are now connected to one of the fibre cabinets. Status of your individual connectivity can be checked on either of the WhereandWhen pages of the BT Openreach or Digital Scotland websites or in the tables at the end of this report. This site is also showing a download of the exchange roll-out list, but as this is only at exchange level, it doesn’t help very much. NOTE: Remember the Digital Scotland “Better Broadband Scheme” provides a subsidy to establish a better connection using either satellite or wireless for those currently getting download speeds of less than 2Mbps. See the KCC website for specific links. Balfron has also got more cabinets with 85% of the village now showing as “Accepting Orders”. Strathblane/Blanefield is in a similar position with slightly over 85% of the village covered. Buchlyvie has nearly 90% showing as connected while Croftamie/Drymen is showing nearly 60% Accepting Orders. All this does have to be qualified though as many premises are on long lines, and whilst they will see a significant benefit in speed (double or better), they will not achieve “super-fast” speeds. -

A big THANK YOU from Strathblane Community Development Trust, for the brilliant response to our recent request for evidence of support for the proposed new Thomas Graham Library Hub.You sent us hundreds of emails and stuck up Smiley faces on the boards placed around the village. The overwhelming view was to support our ambition to create a wonderful new community facility with the backing of Angus Graham’s generous donation. It would be marvellous to have a building and environment to match” “Amazing generosity and a good cause. Let’s get it right”` Now we move on to the next stage of Community Engagement and Consultation. This will focus on where the new facility should be, what it should offer and how the building should be designed. This will involve public meetings, focus groups, the questionnaire circulated with this issue of the Bulletin, and a Frequently Asked Questions feature (FAQs) on our website – www.strathblane.online Please, please do your best to give us these vital views and responses. -

CELEBRATING 100 PROJECTS FROM THE FORTH VALLEY AND LOMOND LEADER PROGRAMME 2007-2013 IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN RURAL FORTH VALLEY AND LOMOND THROUGH REVITALISED COMMUNITIES AND ENHANCED NATURAL ENVIRONMENTS Photo © SEAG FOREWORD I joined Forth Valley and Lomond LEADER Local Action Group during the last programme, when it only covered rural Stirling and West Dunbartonshire, and continued as Vice Chair and the Chair for this programme. For this LEADER programme the area expanded to take in rural Falkirk, rural Clackmannanshire and part of West Dunbartonshire more than doubling the population we covered. The escalation in LEADER coverage drove us to expand the Local Action Group (LAG) including many more people who had not had LEADER coverage before. The transition process was ultimately successful and the LAG became a knowledgeable sounding board for applications to LEADER, approving over £3m worth of projects in the area. This transition from a small LEADER area to a much larger and more varied rural area would not have been nearly as successful without the leadership and friendly manner of Dereck Fowles, Chair of Rural Stirling LEADER and first Chair of Forth Valley and Lomond LEADER. Sadly, Dereck passed away in November 2013 at the rip old age of 86, eleven of those years having been spent supporting and leading us in LEADER. Dereck was a friendly and welcoming Chair with a quick wit that was always used to put people at ease. Always very generous with his time and absolutely committed to the improvement of the lives of people living in rural Scotland, Dereck, more than any other single person, helped make this LEADER programme a success and he will be sorely missed in the Forth Valley and Lomond area and in rural Scotland. -
