“I once was lost but now I'm found,” * With the assistance of Alvis Owner Club member, Wayne Brooks, I have just ascertained that our first Alvis, a 1963 TD21 saloon, no 26868 is still in existence. Having a multitude of owners since our short time of ownership, I was pleased to here that she is still going strong! *Perhaps she should be called “Amazing Grace”

FROM THE EDITOR Here’s wishing you all the best in classic motoring for 2019. Our events are off to a good start with the Port Vincent Gala Day and this coming weekend there’s the Milang Power Show. I’m just hoping the weather will be that little bit cooler! It is that time of the year that many look to having a classic car with air conditioning .However, a shorter trip to Bethany on Australia Day may be more to your liking– especially if you go to collect the white port from the nearby winery! Further ahead there’s a lot to look forward. February’s Cliff Top Breakfast MAPS MEMBERS-meet looks already to go well. Personally, I’ll from 9 AM at the PT. be looking to having a quiet time after the two day judging of Ardrossan in the WAKEFIELD BP SERVO, nationwide Keep Australia Beautiful DEPART AT 9.15 AM scheme. The Quorn weekend has had a huge response and we are so fortunate to have secured the seats on the Pichi Richi train. Membership continues to rise steadily due to a combination of factors; MAPS has good record of events with a welcome to newcomers. The relaxation of rules on Club Registration has no doubt encouraged more people to put on the cheap rego scheme. Attendance at meeting and events looks to keeping reasonable pace with the larger membership which is now about 150 subscriptions and 270 members. However, we do need suggestions for speakers at the General Meetings– and more reports and photos for the newsletter from you, the members! Mike O MAPS EVENTS PROGRAM,4 2018-2019

After nearly a decade of enjoyable classic motoring, our Bristol 409 is heading off to Tasmania to join a 6 cylinder engine Bristol 405. Having put the effort and cash into sorting out the car in a couple of areas, not least the new set of wheels and tyres, I’d like to think that the car will give the new owner, Ian Robinson, many years of fast, comfortable motoring. The car was sold on consignment by Richmonds Cars in Adelaide and whilst they take a commission, they provide a full and friendly service for both the seller and buyer, achieving a better price than I might have obtained by trying to sell the car myself. I’d certainly consider using them again as they have good coverage and research the background of the cars. With some space in the garage and some cash in the bank, I thought it was time to get the Alvis TA21 aka “Alice” in for a number of jobs that will make the car that little bit more usable. Alice is the best car we’ve owned and would be the last one we’d sell If only I could get air con for her on the hot days! The Bristol will say her farewell to SA at the All British Day in February when the new owners, Ian & Judy Robinson will have the car in the Bristol Owners Club display. ARDROSSAN STREET PARTY, FRIDAY 21ST DECEMBER. From my recollection of the numbers from previous years, I reckon 2018’s party saw the highest number of classic vehicles taking part, reaching about 40 with 34 of those owned by MAPS members. Such numbers are a great advert for our club and encourage new members and participation. Special MAPS mentions include- - Colin and Jean Kalleske from Koolywurtie with the FE Holden and Vintage caravan, -the two 1920's cars of the Andrews and Ingrams, - Ken and Jeanette Heinrich's Valiant S Series after its recent makeover, -Dean Errington and the XP Falcon on its first MAPS event and was the Dayman Statesman and David Lutze's Corvette I believe, - Joan Correll in the Beetle from Minlaton -the Whites' Holden from Wool Bay. - to those who brought more than one vehicle along - in fact everyone who took the time and effort to promote our club. PORT VINCENT GALA DAY Excellent weather for the annual MAPS pilgrimage to the Port Vincent Gala Day. I must admit to feeling somewhat reluctant to get out of bed though as I’d been in the area about 4 hours earlier in a non classic Mercedes Benz– ambulance. Did we blow the cobwebs out with the TR4A? No, a nice comfy ride in the Holden FE was the choice. It was also a likely opportunity to talk FE’s with Iain Burns. A range of cars and other vehicles from MAPS and other clubs took up the display area on the esplanade road, an excellent option with shade and nearby toilets. Stall numbers looked to be up, so lots to look at and be tempted by- I can never go by Sandra & Rian Chappell's biscuit stall! A couple of modified vehicles including the 1938 Oldsmobile were worth a look, even to the "keep it original" fans! David Schweiger brought along his very nice 1988 Rolls Royce Silver Spur from South Kilkerran. Derek Rutter had a bit of bad luck in that the MGB showed a no charge light as he was due to depart from Stansbury, so brought the modern. Probably brushes we reckoned. Trevor Clerke kept himself busy as always, marshalling in the cars and ensuring we all knew where enjoy a shaded lunch spot at his nearby home. Thanks to Lyn for the cuppas and banana cake! 11
