Bob Dole (R-Kan.) today announced his nomination of 60 young Kan sa ns who will compete for appointments to the United States Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Military Academy and Merchant Marine Academy for this summer's Class of 1983. 11 I am very pl eased with the enthusiasm and high qua l ifi cations of this year 1 s applicants," Dole said. "The keen competition speaks well for our Kansas youth. 11 Tradi t ionally, Sen. Dole has used the "competitive method" of nomi nation, submitting names of t he most qualified applicants to the academies. They, in turn, offer appointments to fill his quota. This year the senator has two slots available at each of the Air Force , Naval an d Mil itary academies. The Merchant Marine Academy will select four Kansans from the nomi nations submitted by all of the Kansas congressional delegation. The nomi nation process begins in the fall, early in the senior year of high school. Those interested contact Sen. Dole's office for application forms. For 60 years, we’ve ideated, collaborated and implemented to help realize meaningful spaces; spaces that enrich lives, build communities and make the world a better place. 2017 marks sixty years since Schaefer and Schirmer was founded. Kansas is a rural state, so remember some driving time is required. Allow time when locating your game site. All directions are from I-135 North & South from Wichita to Salina. There are shorter ways if you take smaller highways. Andover: Andover High School and Middle School: 1744 N. Andover Rd. Andover, KS 67002 From the west take 21st St. out of Wichita east into Andover-to-Andover Road. Turn right (south) for 4 blocks and you will see the high school on the east side of the road.     City Council FOCUS AREAS GROWING WICHITA’S BUILDING DEPENDABLE KEEPING WICHITA SAFE LIVING WELL ECONOMY INFRASTRUCTURE WICHITA: A WELL-RUN CITY The mission of the City Council is to provide policy direction for the City of Wichita in developing, implementing, and maintaining services to the citizens of Wichita. The Council establishes several strategic priorities, also called “focus areas,” which guide decision-making. Those are: Keeping Wichita Safe; Building Dependable Infrastructure; Growing Wichita’s Economy; Living Well; and Making Wichita A Well-Run City The Council establishes policy direction for the City by enacting ordinances, laws, policies, adopting the budget, levying taxes, and appointing members to citizen advisory boards and commissions. The seven-member Council is elected to four-year terms on a nonpartisan basis with staggered terms of office. The Mayor and City Council Members can run two consecutive four year terms. The Mayor’s position is full-time, while Council Members are part-time. Salaries and election years vary per year. The Council appoints members to citizen advisory boards, District Advisory Boards and commissions. The Council also hosts visitors from Wichita’s international Sister Cities, U.S. military groups and economic development delegations. They work in close partnership with economic development stake-holders to support a robust business climate and grow jobs in the Wichita region. The Council members hold positions in various local, regional and national organizations and exchange shared knowledge with other regional, national and international entities to develop partnerships and collaboration. The relationships formed and knowledge gleaned from these organizations help Wichita stay on the cutting edge of best practices in public safety, infrastruc- ture, transportation, economic development, quality of life and more.

    Kansas Legislator Briefing Book 2019 C-1 Career Technical Education Education (CTE) in Kansas C-2 Mental Health Intervention Team Pilot Program C-2 Mental Health Intervention Team 2018 Legislation Pilot Program In Sub. for SB 423 and House Sub. for SB 61, the 2018 C-3 Legislature created the Mental Health Intervention Team Pilot School Finance— Program (Program) for FY 2019 “to improve social-emotional Recent Legislative wellness and outcomes for students by increasing schools’ Changes access to counselors, social workers and psychologists statewide” (2018 Sub. for SB 423, Sec. 1(a)). The legislation C-4 requires school districts and community mental health centers School Safety and (CMHCs) to enter into partnerships through memorandums of Security understanding (MOUs) to implement the Program. Additionally, the legislation requires mental health intervention teams to consist of school liaisons employed by the participating school districts, and clinical therapists and case managers employed by the participating CMHCs. The legislation specifies the minimum number of schools from the following school districts that would participate in the Program: ● 23 schools in the Wichita school district (USD 259); ● 28 schools in the Topeka school district (USD 501); ● 10 schools in the Kansas City school district (USD 500); ● 5 schools in the Parsons school district (USD 503); ● 4 schools in the Garden City school district (USD 457); and ● 9 schools served by the Abilene school district (USD 435) as the fiscal agent. The Legislature appropriated $10.0 million, all from the State General Fund, to the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) to fund the Program for FY 2019.
