Bob Dole (R-Kan.) today announced his nomination of 60 young Kan sa ns who will compete for appointments to the United States Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Military Academy and Merchant Marine Academy for this summer's Class of 1983. 11 I am very pl eased with the enthusiasm and high qua l ifi cations of this year 1 s applicants," Dole said. "The keen competition speaks well for our Kansas youth. 11 Tradi t ionally, Sen. Dole has used the "competitive method" of nomi nation, submitting names of t he most qualified applicants to the academies. They, in turn, offer appointments to fill his quota. This year the senator has two slots available at each of the Air Force , Naval an d Mil itary academies. The Merchant Marine Academy will select four Kansans from the nomi nations submitted by all of the Kansas congressional delegation. The nomi nation process begins in the fall, early in the senior year of high school. Those interested contact Sen. Dole's office for application forms. For 60 years, we’ve ideated, collaborated and implemented to help realize meaningful spaces; spaces that enrich lives, build communities and make the world a better place. 2017 marks sixty years since Schaefer and Schirmer was founded. Faculty of Education University of Cambridge October 2018 Music Learning and Mathematics Achievement: A Real-World Study in English Primary Schools Edel Marie Sanders Abstract This study examines the potential for music education to enhance children’s mathematical achievement and understanding. Psychological and neuroscientific research on the relationship between music and mathematics has grown considerably in recent years. Much of this, however, has been laboratory-based, short-term or small-scale research. The present study contributes to the literature by focusing on specific musical and mathematical elements, working principally through the medium of singing and setting the study in five primary schools over a full school year. Nearly 200 children aged seven to eight years, in six school classes, experienced structured weekly music lessons, congruent with English National Curriculum objectives for music but with specific foci. The quasi-experimental design employed two independent variable categories: musical focus (form, pitch relationships or rhythm) and mathematical teaching emphasis (implicit or explicit). In all other respects, lesson content was kept as constant as possible. Pretests and posttests in standardised behavioural measures of musical, spatial and mathematical thinking were administered to all children. Statistical analyses (two-way mixed ANOVAs) of student scores in these tests reveal positive significant gains in most comparisons over normative progress in mathematics for all musical emphases and both pedagogical conditions with slightly greater effects in the mathematically explicit lessons. -

Kansas is a rural state, so remember some driving time is required. Allow time when locating your game site. If you have specific questions please do not hesitate to call our offices at 316-284-0354 and do not hesitate to ask local people for directions. All directions are from I-135 North & South from Wichita to Salina. There are shorter ways if you take smaller highways. Andover: Andover High School and Middle School: 1744 N. Andover Rd. Andover, KS 67002 From the west take 21st St. out of Wichita east into Andover-to-Andover Road. Turn right (south) for 4 blocks and you will see the high school on the east side of the road. From the north: take I-135 south to the 29th St./K-96 exit. Go east on K-96 bypass to 21st St., turn east (left) and go to Andover Road. Turn right (south) for 4 blocks and you will see it on the east side of the road. Andover Central High School and Middle School: 603 E. Central Andover, KS 67002 From the west: take Central St. out of Wichita into Andover. Go 2 blocks east of Andover Road and the school is on the south side of the street.
