Spring Greengs Friends! It’s just a wonderful feeling to know that we are now officially on our way to warmer weather! It seems like it has been a long and cold year and this spring seems a lile more welcome than usual this year. J I hope that you have taken the opportunity to go by our new senior center on Patrick Avenue. WOW! This place is really coming along nicely. The light, the openness, the commercial kitchen… The list goes on and on! It’s going to be a wonderful place for our Champaign County seniors to gather and enjoy the company of friends and the space to enjoy all the acvies that will be happening! We are planning a “so opening” for the new center that will be just for our UCCSC members. At this point, we don’t have an exact date, but most likely someme in June. We will be sending out invitaons for you to be able to visit the new center and take a tour before the actual grand opening ceremony that we are planning for a later date. As we begin this journey to our new home, it doesn’t escape me that this wonderful non-profit organizaon that began 50 YEARS ago (50 years!!!!) is now going to serve even more deserving people within our community. Looking back over the history of our center, the main purpose has always been and will connue to be service. We will be able offer more services for our seniors in need as well as addional programs, acvies and learning opportunies for all. You’ll be able to meet a friend at the center, grab a cup of coffee and actually be able to sit down and have a conversaon. Or, maybe a card game. The new center will be a great addion in so many ways! If any of you are interested, we are inving you to be a part of our “donor board” that will be located inside the center. We have been very careful and cauous with the funding that our community has provided for not only our new center, but our operaonal expenses as well. The monies that are donated to the donor board would go towards outdoor equipment, Outreach shelving and carts, outdoor furniture, fitness equipment, etc. These are all addional fees that are not included in the building cost. The UCCSC member donor board will be set up as follows:

Donaon Category $50 Bronze

$100 Silver

$250 Gold

$500+ Planum

Your name or the name of your choice will go on this board. It’s a nice way to add a personal touch to our new building in a small way. Please feel free to contact the center if you have any quesons regarding the donor board. On an added note, Ronda is doing much beer and is recovering at home. J She is set up comfortably with her laptop and she is currently working from home. She stopped in the other day and she looks wonderful!! It will be nice to have her back full me. Huge thanks to Brenda Minnifield who’s really stepped up since Ronda’s accident. We are now in the home stretch, friends. It won’t be long now! We’ll be able to see each other and finally get together. Oh my goodness...we have sure missed you!!! Please connue to take care of yourselves and each other.

Stacy

We Honor Our Mothers

By Marlene McInre (UCCSC member)

Today is the day we honor our mothers, Some mothers are sll here on earth with their children, First lady of life from the day of our birth With hugs to receive and sweet memories to share. She nursed us and cared for our sisters and brothers, Some mothers are spending the day up in Heaven, And was first to insll in us feelings of worth. And having a wonderful Mother’s Day there

Now mamas sll worry and mamas sll miss you, This day is for making new memories for mothers, And mamas sll take the small piece of the pie. And remembering our mothers not present on earth. Yes Mamas sll love all their big, grown babies, Each Mother’s Day finds me in fond recollecon. And mamas sll pray on their knees as they cry. I thank God and mama for giving me birth.

Well, we may be grown now and have our own babies, Lord Jesus, please give my heart’s message to mama. Or we may be childless and want it that way. I know she is spending the whole day with you. But we reverence this day as we honor our mothers, So Jesus, please tell my dear mama I love her, And acknowledge a debt we can never repay. And tell her I said, “Happy Mother’s Day, too.

So honor your mother in the land of the living, Now mamas sll worry and mamas sll miss you, Tell her “I love You” and show her each day. And mamas sll take the small piece of pie, For a mother will sacrifice self in her giving, Yes, mamas sll love all their big, grown-up babies, For the most needed three lile words you can say. And mamas sll pray on their knees as they cry.
