It has an ar- cade, a dance hall, an all-you-can-eat buffet, and baseball fields. Throughout the day, the Holiday Hill staff holds fun games such as tug-a-war, water balloon toss contests, and 3 on 3 basketball tournaments. If you’re into relaxed sports, volleyball, rock climbing, and mini-golf are offered too. Holiday Hill is a great park to hang out with your friends. Families have reunions here and companies rent it to have parties. It may be a long drive, however the fun you will have is totally worth it. Scalzi Park By: Alex Miklave If you like to skateboard then try checking out Scalzi Skatepark in Stamford. It is known for its two main bowls. The first is a “mini snowman bowl with a roll.” It goes from 3’ to 6’ deep. The second is a larger bowl that goes from 4’ to 12’ deep. This park, however, does not have just these two bowls. It also includes a variety of rails and stairs for the bladers out there. 6 Day Trips The Norwalk Islands By: Billy Moran When your body feels the need for fresh air and sunlight, look no further than the Norwalk Islands. The Norwalk Islands are a chain of 25 islands off the coast of Norwalk and Westport. From fishing, to kayaking, to camping, to supreme bonfires, the Norwalk islands have plenty of fun activities to last the day, and night for that matter. The most interesting of these islands would have to be Sprite Island, located off the Norwalk coast, slightly to the left of Calf Pasture beach. Sprite Island is a private club; however it is not very difficult to get there as long as its facilities are not abused. Sprite Island sports a small cottage with running water, functioning bathrooms and a snack bar that is periodically open. Perhaps the best island, that isn’t private property, is Cockenoe Island (pronounced kahkeeney.) Cockenoe Island is located right behind Sprite Island. It boasts a long, sandy beach, a bay, excellent fish- ing spots, a wooded area, and camping every night of the summer for up to four parties. Carabiners Climbing Club By: Colin Cinder Early this year Carabiners indoor climbing opened a second facility in Fairfield, CT. The entirely renovated building holds over 30,000 square feet of climbing space. The heights of the climbing wall range from 40 feet to 25 feet. The climbing club caters to all skill levels with three options; peg climbs, rope or belaying climbs and speed climbs. Peg climbs are for the beginners and rise only ten feet. Belaying climbs have the same rate although require a standard belaying course costing $35. This class is only for first time belayers. Carabiners is a one stop climbing destination that could provide you with everything necessary to becoming an expert. 7 Off Campus Trends Websites By: Traug Keller Old Shows There are a number of trendy websites that are taking our generation by storm. • Ishdarr Brings a Crowd,Iowa Band Speaks on Locality,Field Report To
IshDARR brings a crowd Photo by Jun Taek Lee A packed crowd gathered in Gardner on Friday, Nov. 6, to hear from three young hip-hop artists—Young Eddy, Kweku Collins and IshDARR (pictured to the left). IshDARR is based out of Milwaukee, Wis. The sharp-tongued 19- year-old released a critically acclaimed album, “Old Soul, Young Spirit,” earlier this year. He largely pulled material from that album during the performance. The youthful, ecstatic energy of his recorded material transferred seamlessly to the stage. IshDARR was totally engaging for the duration of the set and did not shy away from talking with the audience, eliciting laughter and cheers. It wasn’t a terribly long set, but one that kept the people in attendance rapt from start to finish. Milwaukee is an exciting place to be an MC in 2015. The Midwestern city has recently cultivated a vibrant and dynamic DIY hip hop scene that’s only getting larger. IshDaRR, one of the youngest and most prominent members of the scene, proved on Friday night that he’s got a lot to share with the world. Assuredly, he is only getting started. Friday night was the third time that Young Eddy, aka Greg Margida ’16, has performed on campus and he is sure to have more performances next semester. Kweku Collins hails from Evanston, Ill., and this was his first time performing in Grinnell. Iowa band speaks on locality The S&B’s Concerts Correspondent Halley Freger ‘17 sat down with Pelvis’ guitarist and vocalist, Nao Demand, before his Gardner set on Friday, Oct.

  • Dobber's 2010-11 Fantasy Guide
DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

  • MEDIA GUIDE 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship a Chance to See the Best Ice Hockey Players
MEDIA GUIDE 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship A chance to see the best ice hockey players One misconception about the IIHF World Junior Championships is that it features “future” stars. If you look at the development of the event, you will realize that this magnificent tournament features players who are world class stars already today. The World Juniors also show, by the way, how quickly a year goes by. Let’s take you back to December 2012 and the IIHF World U20 event in Ufa, Russia. Canada’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins who led the tournament in scoring with 15 points in 6 games is today an integral part of the Edmonton Oilers while his countrymen Jonathan Huberdeau (9 points in 6 games in Ufa) and Mark Scheifele (8 points in 6 games) are the future of the Florida Panthers and Winnipeg Jets respectively. USA’s All-Star defenseman and gold winner in Ufa, Jacob Trouba, is playing sensationally well for the Winnipeg while teammate Alex Galchenyuk personifies the new generation Montreal Canadiens. Last year’s dominating Finns Joel Armia and Markus Granlund have both signed NHL contracts and are biding their time in the AHL, but Swedes Filip Forsberg, Elias Lindholm and Rickard Rakell have all played NHL games this season. So think about this when you watch the 38th IIHF World Junior event in Malmö – you may most likely have one chance to see the best players. Next year they are probably celebrated professionals either in the NHL or in any of the European leagues. A good example of the natural turnover is the defending World Champion United States: from last year’s golden roster in Ufa only there are only three returnees on the 2014 team.
