    The Blend of Normative Uncertainty and Commercial Immaturity in Swedish Ice Hockey Re-submitted for publication in Sport in Society (February 2014). By describing and analysing normative uncertainties and the commercial immaturity in Swedish ice hockey (SHL/SIHA), this article focuses on the tension and dialectics in Swedish sport; increasingly greater commercial attempts (i.e., entrepreneurship, ‘Americanisation’, multi-arenas, innovations and public limited companies (plcs)) have to be mixed with a generally non-profit making organisation (e.g., the Swedish Sports Confederation) and its traditional values of health, democracy and youth sports and fosterage. In this respect, the elite ice hockey clubs are situated in a legal culture of two parallel norm systems: the tradition of self-regulation in sport and in civil law (e.g., commercial law). Indeed, the incoherent blend of idealism and commercialism in Swedish elite hockey appears to be fertile ground for hazardous (sports) management and indebtedness. This mix of ‘uncertainty’ and ’immaturity’ has given rise to various financial trickeries and negligence, which have subsequently developed into legal matters. Consequently, the legal system appears to have become a playground for Swedish ice hockey. This article reflects on the reasons and the rationale in this frictional development by focusing on a legal case that comes under the Business Reorganisation Act. The analysis reveals support for a ‘soft’ juridification process in Swedish ice hockey in order to handle the charging tension of the two parallel norm systems. INTRODUCTION In the summer of 1997, Tommy Salo was a young and promising goaltender who had just finished his first full season as the New York Islanders' starting goalie. 1 However, after an emotional arbitration hearing during which Islanders' General Manager Mike Milbury called Salo "one of the worst-conditioned athletes on the team," 2 the goalie who had helped lead 3 the 1994 Swedish national team to Olympic gold was reduced to tears.     TEAM SWEDEN HAS WON EIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP GOLD MEDALS Tre Kronor has won seven World Championship Gold Medals during the years, 1953, 1957, 1962, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1998 and 2006. This is what happened when we won: 1953 in Zürich, Switzerland This became a tournament where important nations were missing. USA was forbidden to come. They were banned because of fighting in a game in Basel the year before. Canada decided to show sympathy for USA and didn’t show up either. It became even less teams in the tournament when Czechoslovakia suddenly went home. The reason was that their president Gottwaldow died and national mourning was declared. The Czechoslovakian government forbid sport competitions and therefore Team Czechoslovakia had nothing else to do than return home during the tournament. It was the first time Team Sweden played with three lines instead of two. The result was successful. Team Sweden won the Gold Medal before West Germany (Silver Medal) and Switzerland (Bronze Medal). So in the end all three participating teams got one medal each. Göte Blomqvist, from Södertälje SK, was best scorer in Team Sweden with seven goals. Team Sweden’s results: Czechoslovakia (before they went home) 5-3, Switzerland 9-2 and 9-1, West Germany 8-6 and 12-2. 1957 in Moscow, Soviet Union Nobody expected success from the young team with seven World Championship rookies that went to Moscow. Even important representatives from media decided to stay at home. But team Sweden played well and the results went our way. Before the last game against the Soviet Union a tied game would be enough to win the whole tournament.

Bergstrand Kristina är den svenska spelare som erövrat flest SM-guld, 14 stycken med: Nacka HK 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1998, Mälarhöjden/Bredäng Hockey 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. Två svenska spelare delar på rekordet på flest erövrade SM-guld för herrar. 9 SM-guld var har Lasse Björn (Djurgårdens IF) och Tord Lundström (Brynäs IF). Yngsta spelaren någonsin i ishockeyns SM-tävlingar är Therese Jansson, Alvesta Skridskosklubb. Hon var tio år när hon hoppade in i målet och höll nollan mot MoDo Hockey i bronsmatchen 1988. Ledaren av ishockeyns maratontabell för högsta serien sedan 1922 är Djurgårdens IF följt av Färjestads BK och Brynäs IF. Ledaren av SHL:s maratontabell i ishockey sedan 1976 är Färjestads BK som spelat 40 säsonger i SHL, följt av Djurgårdens IF och Frölunda HC. Flest SM-guld i ishockey har Djurgårdens IF med 16 SM-guld, följt av Brynäs med 13 och Färjestads BK samt IK Göta med 9. Sveriges första landslag i ishockey blev fyra vid OS i Antwerpen 1920. Turneringen spelades som uppvisningsgren. Internationella Ishockeyförbundet gav i efterhand turneringen officiell VM-status.
