LINING The inside of the cylinder is lined with resin, thus sealing each pin in place to ensure high-quality sound. The composition of this resin is one of Reuge’s most closely guarded secrets. 10 — REUGE SPECIFIC KNOW-HOW SPECIFIC KNOW-HOW REUGE — 11 4. STAMPING 9. MUSIC AUTOMATON EXCEPTIONAL EXCEPTIONAL MUSIC AUTOMATON — 15 — MILIARIUS — REUGE’s Miliarius is an automaton that brings the epic horse races of the Ancient Roman Empire back to life by recreating the scenery of the Circus Maximus Arena. In the presence of Julius Caesar himself, this is where fearless slaves risked their lives in ferocious struggles to seize a victory. Mi- liarius is both an animated spectacle and an acoustic experience. It com- bines the intricate motion of five chariots pulled by ten horses with the pure resonance of the "Victory Parade" melody. REUGE designed the automaton so that the outcome of each race remains unpredictable: the intricate move- ment appoints a different victor every time. REUGE recreated this pulley and its winding handle in the heart of a music automaton that evokes the streamlined design of a yacht. The base is in mahogany wood – a lumber prized for its beauty and used in the luxury boat industry. The sail is represented by a fine carbon cover overlooking the masterpiece. Looking at the Winch you can feel the rumble of the waves. The automaton’s music will call out your dreams as if you were sailing across the oceans. The automaton owes its name to the first powered airplanes that conquered the skies and gave way to today’s ever-advancing aviation. REUGE conceived its most complicated automaton movement to date, a Cartel Fusée 144 notes, which mirrors the construction of aeronautic motors.
