6th Season Billy Wright enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Western Illinois University men’s basketball team. The coaching veteran maintains 20-plus years of experience, including former stints as the Leathernecks’ assistant (2008-10) and associate head coach (2010-13). He was named the program’s 20th head coach on April 15, 2014.

Wright assisted Western to a share of the Summit League’s regular-season championship during the 2012-13 season and made history during the 2018-19 tournament where the Leathernecks upset South Dakota State, 79-76, in the quarterfinal round to become the first No. 8 seed in league history to defeat the No. 1.
