This report details our new strategic plan for 2018-2020, provides a snapshot as well as an in depth look at the projects we are working on and aims to inform you of our current advocacy causes, encouraging all of us to support and work together for a better world. As Bahay Tuluyan’s primary work is on the fulfillment of children’s rights, in this politically difficult times when human rights and human rights advocates in the Philippines are deemed the enemy of the state, the work of Bahay Tuluyan has never been more challenging and very important. We as advocates have been steadfast in our belief to carry the principles enshrined in our work. I want to sincerely thank all the children and youth who have inspired us to work with them and for them, to all the staff, board members and all the donors and funders who have been generously supporting the dreams and inspirations of BT.

    www.facebook.com/PTCHoldings 5/2018 Volume 14 Issue 4 PHILCAMSAT and CMET Granted BMI Accreditation for 26 Courses The Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training, Inc. (PHILCAMSAT) and the Mapúa-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (CMET) has further cemented their status as the country’s center for excellence in maritime education and training (MET) as they announce the accreditation of 26 of their programs and courses by the prestigious Belgian Maritime Inspectorate (BMI). PHILCAMSAT and CMET hold the distinction of being the only institutions in Asia to be recognized by the BMI which operates under the Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport agency of the Kingdom of Belgium. Having initially accredited four STCW courses in 2014, BMI has now granted certification to 8 training programs under CMET and 18 under PHILCAMSAT. With this development, PHILCAMSAT trainees and graduates of CMET are assured that their training is compliant with international standards and is duly recognized by European-flagged ships, thereby helping secure their employment on board these vessels. The BMI-accredited programs under CMET are as follows: 1. Training for officers in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more (A-II/1) 2. Training for ratings forming part of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more (A-II/4) 3. Training for ratings as able seafarer deck 4. Training for Certification of GMDSS radio operators 5.     TST 37, octubre de 2018, pp. 91-121 Conectando la ciudad al mar: cambios en Manila con la llegada del tranvía (1880-1898) Dídac Cubeiro Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) – CSIC Resumen Este artículo analiza la disposición de una red moderna de tranvías para la ciudad de Manila y las conexiones del ferrocarril con el puerto, para facilitar el acceso de las exportaciones filipinas a los mercados internacionales a finales del siglo XIX. Es relevante destacar la visión de continuidad que a partir de los proyectos españoles adoptó la Administración estadounidense, rescatando los proyectos de la Dirección General de Obras Públicas, y en muchos casos, continuando con la ampliación de los trazados originales. Bajo la Administración española se proyectó una línea de tranvía que inicialmente cubría el trayecto entre la línea de ferrocarril que unía las ciudades de Manila con Dagupán y los muelles del puerto de Manila. En 1884 se subastó el proyecto para dotar de un sistema de tranvías a la ciudad de Manila, operado por la Compañía de Tranvías de Filipinas. Tras la ocupación norteamericana de Filipinas, a inicios del siglo XX se traspasó la concesión a la empresa Manila Electric and Railway Company (MERALCO), que se hizo cargo de la operativa del tranvía y de las centrales eléctricas que suministraban energía a la ciudad. Meralco es en la actualidad una de las principales empresas eléctricas del archipiélago. Palabras clave: Transporte urbano, tranvías, urbanización, Manila. GEALOGO Counting People Nineteenth-Century Population History of Four Manila Arrabales Using the Planes de Almas Along with profound social and political transformation, the arrabales (suburbs) of Intramuros, Manila, also underwent significant demographic changes during the nineteenth century as indicated by population growth, urbanization, rising population density, and changes in death, birth, and marriage rates. This paper utilizes quantitative data from the Planes de Almas, the numerical summaries of population data of different parishes found in the Archdiocesan Archives of Manila, to analyze the population history of these suburbs. These data concern burials, baptisms, and marriages, as well as reports on taxation and the confessional status of inhabitants.
