Tonight we will magically step “Through the Looking Glass” into a whimsical world where we will relish an evening of good company, food and drink, bidding and giving, as we celebrate our beloved School. Heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who have worked so hard, with so much love, to create this beautiful event that brings our community together and underscores our mutual commitment to a strong Financial Aid Fund.
A distinguishing characteristic of Curtis families―one that makes me so very proud and grateful―is our parents and guardians’ unwavering dedication to our School. Your commitment to the core values that we hold indispensable help us to create a nurturing environment where children can grow and thrive intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially.

It is our pleasure to welcome you to Curtis in Wonderland! We can't believe we are finally here! We started planning this journey months and months ago with a specific vision in mind - an event that would provide the opportunity for each of YOU to step into the "looking glass" with us and embark on a brand new adventure. We wanted you to be transported to the stunning Sofitel Beverly Hills for a night to remember filled with food, fabulous drinks, dancing to the DJ's music and making special memories with your Curtis Friends. All of this, while putting the FUN in fundraising and raising money for the Curtis Financial Aid Fund.
So here we are... all dressed up in our whimsical attire. Let's let the madness begin! This evening is truly a wonderful example of the incredibly talented and inspiring things that can happen when we come together as a community to support our School. We are so impressed with the commitment and dedication of our Curtis parents, administration, faculty, staff, and friends for making this event do extraordinary! Provide your child with a day she or he will never forget! One lucky student will have a chance to be the Head of School for the day and spend the day with our very own Dr. Ratnesar. Your child will stand beside Dr. Ratnesar as she greets students at morning carpool, leads flag salute and makes the day’s announcement. Following flag, the lucky student gets a private tour of the Administration building. Later in the day, they will bring along a friend or sibling and join Dr. Ratnesar for lunch. The special day will be commemorated with photographs of the Head of School For the Day with Dr. Ratnesar. Current Curtis students only. AUCTION RULES & PROCEDURES
TIMETABLE OF EVENTS
Curtis in Wonderland Curtis Celebrates! 2020: The Curtis Celebrates! Silent Auction will open with mobile bidding at 10:00am on Monday, March 2, 2020 and continue through 9:30pm at the event on the evening of March 7th. In addition to the Silent Auction, there will be a Live Auction and Text To Give Donation Ask at the event on March 7th.
Registration: All bidders will be asked to register online for the Silent Auction and at the door the evening of the event for the Silent and Live Auction. Each bidder will receive a personal bidding link for the Silent Auction and a bidder number to use for the Live Auction.
Curtis Celebrates! Check-In and Issuance of Bidding Link and Bid Number: Upon check-in all bidders will receive their personal bidding link (which will be texted to the mobile number provided at check-in) and their individual Bid Number in exchange for credit card account information.
An auction participant will place a bid using their personal mobile device (cell phone) through their personal bidding link which will be texted to the mobile number provided at check-in.
Curtis Celebrates! Silent Items: All items in the Silent Auction will be listed online and displayed at the event. Each item description will specify an estimated value if specified, an opening or leading bid and a minimum raise increment. The opening bid is the minimum price for each item. The minimum raise amount signifies the minimum raise amount each successive bid must be raised in order to be valid. Bids not meeting these criteria will be disqualified.
Winning Bid: The person with the highest bid at the time of closing will be considered the winner. Once a bid is placed it cannot be removed for any reason. Bids placed are a legal contract to purchase the item. Some items may have multiple available and can sell to multiple bidders at their bid amount.
In the event of disputes, resolution is at the discretion of the Silent Auction Officials, The Curtis School and The Parents Association.

LIVE AUCTION BIDDING The live auction will take place on stage or a designated area at a specified time. A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer or official staff shall be the purchaser. Every effort will be made to identify and recognize all bids, but it is your responsibility as a bidder to make your bid known. In the event of a question as to the validity of any bid, the event staff will have final discretion to either determine the successful bidder, or to re-offer the item for the auction. A minimum raise required of at least $100 higher than the existing bid for all live bidding. The auctioneer, at his sole discretion, can alter raises for any item.
BID BY PROXY Bid by Proxy will take place with the participant completely filling out the Bid by Proxy form on the event auction website or via phone. Incomplete and/ or illegible forms will be considered null and void. A representative will place the proxy amount at the start of the auction unless it is for the Guaranteed Maximum Purchase Price. If the bid is for a Guaranteed Maximum Purchase item, the bid will be placed 30 minutes after the start of the auction provided that the item has not been purchased by another attendee at the event. The delay of placing the proxy bid provides attending guests an opportunity to bid on all auction items. LIVE by Proxy bids will follow the same format, the Live Proxy bidder will provide Gavel Group with the highest bid they are willing to pay for the selected item. If the LIVE audience doesn’t hit the proxy amount, the Auctioneer will announce he has a Proxy bid for the bid amount and ask for the next highest increment. If a live attendee goes above that bid, they win. If a live attendee does not than the Proxy LIVE bid wins.
CLOSE OUT PROCEDURES WINNING BIDDERS DO NOT NEED TO BE PRESENT AT THE CLOSE OF THE AUCTION. Bidders may (i) check-out according to the procedures described in the following paragraphs or (ii) elect to have the Auction Close-Out Committee or its agent close-out on their behalf in which event the Auction Close-Out Committee via its agent, Gavel Group, will charge the credit card provided at the time of registration/receipt of bid stickers for the full amount of such purchased item(s) and the Winning Bidder may pick up or arrange for their purchased item(s) to be picked up at the Curtis School campus during the week following the event.
108 Charges to credit cards made in accordance with (ii), above, shall be made no later than March 7, 2020. In the event that the registered card is declined, or the Close-Out Committee is unable to complete the transaction, the Winning Bidder shall be notified and alternative payment arrangements shall be made, it being understood that once notified that a party is a winning bidder, that party is obligated to complete the purchase of the item(s). All items purchased at the event must be paid in full no later than March 7, 2020 to avoid the item(s) going to the next highest bidder.
Upon notification that the Auction has closed, Bidders should proceed to the cashier (“close-out”) area to pick-up items purchased. Cash, checks (for Curtis Families only), Visa, MasterCard and American Express will be accepted for payment of purchased item(s). Upon obtaining a receipt from the cashier, winning bidders will be able to pick up their merchandise. If you are unable to “close out” your winning item(s) at the Curtis Celebrates! event, the credit card provided to obtain your Bid Stickers will be charged and you will be able to collect your winning items from a Close-Out volunteers who will be available in front of the Curtis Administration Building from approximately Tuesday, March 10 through Friday, March 13, 2020 in the Curtis PA Room.

Curtis School, the Auction Committee, the Close-Out Committee or The Curtis Parents Association are not responsible for items left after the auction. Please make sure to pick up all winning item(s) that have been paid for within a reasonable amount of time and in no event, later than Friday, March 13, 2020. ITEMS WILL NOT BE SHIPPED TO WINNERS. If you are unable to pick up your items in person during the proscribed times, you can designate another person to pick up your items. Such designations will be confirmed via email or phone. IN THE EVENT YOU FAIL TO PICK UP OR DESIGNATE ANOTHER PERSON TO PICK UP SUCH WINNING ITEM(S), THE ITEM(S) WILL BE LABELED WITH THE BUYER’S NAME AND LEFT IN A DESIGNATED LOCATION AT CURTIS SCHOOL FOR THIRTY (30) DAYS. THE BUYER BEARS ALL RISK RELATED TO LOSS OF OR DAMAGE TO THE WINNING ITEM IN SUCH EVENT. ANY ITEMS LEFT AT SCHOOL AFTER THIRTY (30) DAYS WHERE PICK-UP ARRANGEMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE SHALL BE DONATED TO A CHARITY OF THE PARENTS ASSOCIATION’S CHOICE.

Items are described in the Auction Catalog and on the Bid Sheets. Descriptions and instructions on the Bid Sheets supersede the Auction Catalog and should be read prior to bidding. The Auction Committee and the donor(s) are not responsible for dissatisfaction resulting from a buyer’s failure to read all restrictions that may accompany Auction items.
Curtis School will not be responsible for negotiating between parties or refunding money should there be a disagreement between the donor and the purchaser of an item. The winning bidder of any private jet services will be required to sign a liability waiver indemnifying Curtis School prior to scheduling.
ALL SALES ARE FINAL AND ALL GOODS ARE SOLD “AS IS”
The Auction Committee neither represents nor warrants, and shall in no event be responsible for the correctness of the description or genuineness, authorship, provenance or condition of the items or quality of services rendered. No statement contained in the catalog or made orally at the Auction or elsewhere shall be deemed to be such a warranty, representation or assumption of liability.
There will be NO REFUNDS, EXCHANGES, TRANSFERS OR SUBSTITUTIONS (unless otherwise specified in the Bid Sheet). The values indicated on gift cards and certificates are for merchandise and services and cannot be redeemed for cash and do not include tax, gratuity or service charges unless otherwise stated.
Stated value of Auction goods and services are estimates only and not warranted for tax purposes or for general value. In accordance with IRS regulations, the tax-deductible portion is limited to the excess of the amount of money paid over the value of the goods or services purchased.
110 Reservation dates for the use of vacation homes, condominiums, hotels, resorts, tickets to events and/or other services must be mutually agreed upon with the donor(s) and are subject to availability. The winning bidder of a privately owned condominium/vacation home is responsible for any damages as a result of the stay. Curtis School will not be responsible for negotiating between parties or refunding money should there be a disagreement between the donor and the purchaser of an item.
All transportation and vacation package items are non-transferable, non- redeemable for cash and non-negotiable for upgrades or substitutions unless otherwise noted. Curtis School is not responsible for increases in transportation, tariffs or fares, room rates or taxes.
Unless otherwise stated, all auction items and services must be used by March 7, 2021, and are subject to the terms and conditions set forth by the donors. Please be mindful of any expiration dates with respect to any items or services. It is the BUYER’S responsibility to initiate contact with the donor for such items as homes, tickets and services to arrange for their use. Such initial contact should be made by the purchaser within sixty (60) days of the event date.
FULL RELEASE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Curtis School, the Auction Committee, the Parents Association and any entities thereof cannot provide any servicing or guarantee on any item. Curtis School, as recipient of the item from its donor specifically disclaims any knowledge of or familiarity with the item except as set forth in the donor’s description. Purchaser bears responsibility and fully releases Curtis School from any and all responsibility including, but not limited to, negligence, and for all damages, injury and/or consequences flowing or resulting from the participation in or the use or application of any donated item. It is the responsibility of the recipient to investigate any and all potential risks of any items or service purchased. Curtis School makes no representation or warranty regarding the use of any item, nor with respect to availability or sufficiency of any insurance coverage in connection with such use. By his/her purchase, the buyer hereby releases and holds Curtis School harmless for such damage and liability.
