Oct 10, 2013 16:46 BST Boomtown Rats fly in to Shocktober Fest! The Boomtown Rats and Sir Bob Geldolf on lead vocals treated staff and zombies at Tulleys Farm Shocktober Fest Scream Park near Crawley, to a surprise personal concert today (Thursday) as they took to the halloween attraction’s WoodShock LIVE music stage as part of their pre tour rehearsals. The stage, that has already hosted The Animals & Friends at the Scream Park’s opening night on Saturday the 5th, provided the perfect acoustics and setting for the band before they embark on their 17 day UK tour. Some 27 years since their final show in Dublin in May ’86, The Boomtown Rats – Bob Geldof on vocals, Pete Briquette on bass, Simon Crowe on drums and Garry Roberts on guitar made good use of the Scream Park’s performance facilities. Frontman and lead vocalist Bob Geldof said “Tulleys Farm has been fantastic hosts and it’s a lot better here and a lot better than where we normally rehearse. It’s a bonus having the stage and being able to run through the set as much as we want. We’re looking forward to embarking on our UK tour but it’s a shame we can’t get to enjoy the haunts of the Shocktober Fest Scream Park first, maybe next year!” Launching the release of their new album ‘Classic Ratshits’ the tour kicks off in Ireland this Saturday the 12th and takes them across the length and breadth and the country. SIR BOB GELDOF & THE BOOMTOWN RATS 1975 Friends Garry Roberts, Simon Crowe, Johnnie Moylett, Patrick Cusack and Gerry Cott formed a band in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. Bob Geldof was originally invited to be the band's manager, but he soon found himself nominated to take on the role of lead vocals by guitarist Garry Roberts, who originally had that job and didn't want it. Playing the guitar was difficult enough for him, without having to sing as well. Geldof's ridiculous harmonica playing impressed the others hugely and sealed his fate. The band's early influences were Dr. Feelgood, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Doors and Bob Marley, among many others. Gerry and Pete arranged the band's first gig for Hallowe'en 1975, for a fee of £60 - not bad for 1975, under the name of The Nightlife Thugs, at the Bolton Street Technical College, where they - and Johnnie, were studying Architectural Technology. Just before the band went on stage, they changed their name to The Boomtown Rats, who were a gang mentioned in Woody Guthrie’s autobiography, "Bound For Glory". The Rats were soon causing a buzz throughout the whole of Ireland. 1976 The Boomtown Rats relocated to England in search of a record deal. They turned down a million pound deal from Richard Branson’s Virgin Records, and decided instead to sign for a new label that had been set up by former Phonogram man Nigel Grange and DJ Chris Hill. The new label was called Ensign. 1977 The Boomtown Rats played their first ever UK gig on May 6th at the Lodestar Club, Ribchester, Blackburn, Lancashire.

ACCESS ALL AREAS... i DON’T LIKE MONDAYS APPEARS IN ROCK & POP 2018 Released: 1979 Album: The Fine Art of Surfacing Label: Ensign, Columbia ABOUT THE SONG ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ by The Boomtown Rats was the sixth biggest British hit of 1979 and the band’s second AND HE CAN SEE NO REASON No. 1 single.
