April 17, 2020 COVID-19 Status Report Oak Park Village Board of Trustees To: Village President and Village Board of Trustees

Fr: Cara Pavlicek, Village Manager

The memo is a means to share a brief summary of information regarding Village of Oak Park operational activities in response to COVID-19. In most cases, formal public guidance or employee guidance has been publicly disseminated via the Village website or Village social media channels.

New Public Health Guidance

Today, the Village of Oak Park Department of Public Health received notification of the following new COVID-19 cases: 2 Oak Park residents who range in age from their 40s to 80s. Excluding individuals for which street addresses are not yet determined, the State of Illinois reports a total of one-hundred twenty (122) total Oak Park COVID-19 cases. It is important to note that as patient tracking and case follow-up occurs, individuals listed within the number of Oak Park cases reported change depending on residency confirmation. The Oak Park Department of Public Health is notified of positive tests as established by state and local public health protocol. Because of privacy laws, no additional information can be released about the individuals. It is noted, that privacy precludes location information regarding individuals tested to anyone other than Public Health Officials and First Responders. The Oak Park Department of Public Health is working closely with officials from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), investigating and notifying anyone who may have had exposure to the individual who tested positive for COVID-19. Local public health officials, hospitals and first responders are following protocols consistent with the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Upcoming Village Sponsored Community Events Staff has been evaluating future Village sponsored events that traditionally are held in beginning in May in conjunction with public health factors. We anticipate updating the public late next week on our 2020 events including Day in Our Village, Summer Youth Employment program as well as the Fourth of Parade and Fireworks Celebration.

In regards to the 2020 Farmers Market, the Village is working to develop plans for how to hold the Market as the availability of fresh produce in the community is important. Cameron Davis, Asst. Director of Development Customer Services will be the Staff Liaison to the Farmers Market Commission this year and supervise the PT Village employee who manages the market as Public Health Director Mike Charley responsibilities under the Village’s response to COVID-19 prevent him for serving in this role in 2020. There are a number of issues related to public health and social distancing that must be addressed in order to get the Market operational. Details will be ready in the coming weeks.

Block Parties Block party permits are not being issued for and a decision regarding May block parties will be announced soon. In the event future block parties are permitted, they will be accompanied by social distancing requirements. While some of these requirements may be lessened later in the summer, all Fire Department visits to block parties are being eliminated for 2020 and it is likely bouncy houses will not be allowed this year.
