  • STATE of DOWNTOWN Colorado Springs 2021 ONE YEAR AGO, Downtown Colorado Springs Was Poised to Have Its Best Year Economically in Decades
Economic snapshot and performance indicators STATE OF DOWNTOWN Colorado Springs 2021 ONE YEAR AGO, Downtown Colorado Springs was poised to have its best year economically in decades. The fundamentals were strong, new construction was humming and small business was luring new patrons. Then came the pandemic and ensuing recession, which proved particularly devastating to tourism, restaurants, small business and arts and culture, while also disrupting workforce patterns. But despite these historic challenges, as this report demonstrates, Downtown weathered this crisis far better than most city centers nationwide and is poised for an incredibly strong rebound. New businesses and investors are taking note – making Downtown Colorado Springs one of the hottest up-and-coming markets in the country. Our sixth annual State of Downtown Report notes nearly $2 billion in development – driven by strong multifamily growth, exciting new attractions, and investments in preserving and enhancing Downtown’s unique historic center. This comprehensive benchmarking report is packed with the data, trends and analysis to inform key stakeholders in making sound business decisions, created especially with investors, brokers, developers, retailers, civic leaders and property owners in mind. State of Downtown is produced by the Downtown Development Authority, and most data throughout the report tracks specifically within the DDA boundaries, the natural defining area of Downtown. Where noted, some data is reported for the Greater Downtown Colorado Springs Business Improvement District, the 80903 ZIP code, or the two census tracks that align with the city’s core. Data and rankings are for 2020 except where noted. A special mention about the pandemic: Some sections of this report are briefer than past years, and in some instances data from 2019 is reported instead.

Ed Robson Arena ‐ Community Meeting #2 February 16, 2019 | 10:30 a.m. – noon Cornerstone Arts Center UPDATED: Public Process Overview Upcoming meetings: NOTE: REVISED COMMUNITY MEETING DATE: 10:30 – noon, Saturday, March 23. This meeting will take place in the Kathryn Mohrman Theatre in Armstrong Hall, 14 E. Cache La Poudre St. The meeting will focus on the site plan, parking strategy, architecture, landscape and community input. April – Community Meeting July – Downtown Review Board August – Presentation to City Council Colorado College has invited the community to engage in a public process to shape the designs and plans for the new Robson Arena on the Colorado College campus as a permanent home for CC Tiger Hockey and one of the venues associated with the City for Champions initiative. The college has been seeking feedback and input on all aspects of the arena project, including design, architecture, parking and traffic. This planning process is strategically designed to provide opportunities for changes and further refinements early in the planning process prior to the development of final plans. Several community meetings have taken place to date as part of the public process with several hundred citizens participating in each meeting. During these meetings we have received extensive input, ideas, suggestions and reactions that have been helping to shape each next step of the design and plans. The project team, working with the college and the CC Board of Trustees, has been responding to community input by adjusting and adding more refinement to the plans. This has been an iterative process and will continue to be, assuring the final design and plans reflect as much community input and desires as possible.

  • Ed Robson Arena -- Frequently Asked Questions (As of March 2020)
Ed Robson Arena -- Frequently Asked Questions (as of March 2020) The Ed Robson Arena is a planned multi-purpose ice hall with 3,407 seats, owned and operated by Colorado College and home to CC Tiger Hockey. The arena is a physical and cultural extension of Colorado College as well as part of the City for Champions (C4C) initiative of projects underway throughout the community. Colorado College is moving forward with the arena and has concluded the process of soliciting community feedback during the planning phase. OVERVIEW How has public input been incorporated into the arena design and plans? The planning and design of the new arena is an iterative process. Community feedback was solicited at six meetings throughout 2019. Suggestions that improved the plans were incorporated and communicated out at each subsequent meeting. Where is the arena located and who owns the land on which it will be built? The facility will be on the west side of Nevada Avenue between Dale and Cache La Poudre streets. It is on land owned by Colorado College. Is the new ice arena part of existing plans? The Colorado College Long Range Development Plan (2008) and the Colorado College Master Plan (2015) identify a new ice center to be located on the block between Nevada Avenue and Tejon Street and between Dale and Cache La Poudre streets. Is the arena able to accommodate the CC Tiger fan base? Previous rivalry games (such as against DU, North Dakota, AF Academy, and other NCHC teams) typically draw a large attendance. How will they be accommodated? The college’s long and strong support of CC Tiger Hockey and its fan base will be evident with this new best-in-class, on- campus arena.
