That was announced by Eng. Rashid Mohamed Rashid, Egypt Minister of Trade & Industry, N.B. Eng. Rashid statements, considering his past successful performance over the past 5 years, should be most seriously taken by the national & international business & finance circles sending optimistic messages to all concerned parties on some sort of a coming boom in the national cement industry in the next decade. For how long entrepreneurs & executives of the national I.T. industry, excluding 10 or 20 or 30 mature companies, will remain limited to their local visions & participation on local I.T. exhibitions at peanut costs, that remains to be seen. N.B. Earlier media reports indicated that 17 Egyptian ICT companies participated on CeBIT 2009. That was circulated by Reuters from Addis Ababa noting that the figure exceeds tangibly the $ 55 billion figure pledged earlier by the investors in a meeting sponsored by the UN and held in late 2007 in Rwanda. Lebanese authorities announced they would decide by the year end on the conditions & measures to sell the two licensed mobile telephone service providers in the Feb 02, 2010 country; MTC Touch & Alfa. That was announced by the Lebanese Minister of Communications, Mr. Sherbil Nahhas. Previous Lebanese governments predicted the development would generate almost $ 7 billion revenues to the Lebanese Treasury. In a meeting with Bloomberg Channel, the present Minister indicated that the issue is complicated. Media reports noted that privatizing of the mobile telephone companies in the country was postponed initially due to the political problems in the country, then due to the international financial crisis & the parliamentary elections issue. The Minister indicated that there exist several mechanisms to attract investors which may go via a regular public subscription or a mix equation providing also for the entry of a strategic investor. Reports reminded that Ex Communications Minister, Mr. Marwan Hamada, said in an interview held with him in January 2008 last, that the Lebanese Government will hold a 33.3 % stake in both companies in case of their privatization. Minister of Communications & Information Technology, Dr. Eng. Tarek Kamel, has announced subscribers to the mobile telephone service in the country exceeded 56 Feb 21, 2010 million marking almost 72.7 % density. The Minister predicted the said density to reach 90 % over the next two years. He further revealed that subscribers to the stationery telephone lines service reached 10.3 million marking some 13.4 % density. As regards Internet users so they reached almost 17 million, of which one million are subscribers to the ultra high access speed via the broadband service. Figures were not related to a specific date. Meanwhile the Minister stressed earlier announced target to raise I.T. services from $ 850 million at present to $ 2 billion by 2013. Moroccan Telecommunication Regulatory Agency has predicted subscribers to the mobile telephone service & internet subscribers to reach 34 million & 2.5 million Mar 03, 2010 respectively by the end of 2012. That, in its view, would drive total revenues of the Moroccan telecommunication sector to MD 40 billion (about $ 5 billion). That was reported in the media indicating that state owned Morocco Telecom gross revenues in 2009 were put at the equivalent of $ 3.7 billion & that its profits for the year dropped by 1 % to $ 1.1 billion. The company is 34 % state owned with the remaining 76 % controlled by Vivendi of France. NTRA - National Telecommunication Regulatory Agency is said to have endorsing two amendments to the conditions of the triply ply communication licenses earlier Jan 06, 2010 offered in a public auction among eligible bidders. They pertain to raise the number of housing units at gated residential compounds from 5,000 units to 10,000 units & extending the duration of each license to 15 years instead of ten years. That was revealed in a report recently released by CI Capital Investment Bank claiming both decisions would not match interests of Telecom Egypt but rather sharpen competition against it. Rich Telecom Holding said it was declared winner of a virtual mobile telephone license in Malaysia, deemed one of the fastest growing mobile telephone markets in Asia. Mar 28, 2010 As such Rich Telecom Holding is deemed the first Gulf communications company to operate in Malaysia. On his side Chairman of the company, Mr. Walid Al Sayegh, noted that the deal was executed via Baraka Communications, fully owned by Rich Telecom. Actual operations are scheduled to start by May 2010 next. According to the project's feasibility study prepared by KPMG, subscribers to the service are projected to reach 1 million during the first year of operation.

Telecommunication Equipment & Works - Non Tenders Section Type Description Date Published Business News A report released recently by CI Capital Investment Bank has predicted revenues & subscribers of Egyptian communications' companies to continue increasing in 2010. Jan 06, 2010 Report noted those companies would depend on promoting Internet access devices & solutions to balance with revenues decline amid most fierce competition of offered reduced prices for mobile telephone service. Report praised the development of the Egyptian communications market (over the past few years) in terms of leveling with fast technological updating, of continuing to liberalize the communications market & to enhance NTRA efficiency & performance. Report has further admitted that its earlier circulated projections on a possible drop of Telecom Egypt's revenues & profits did not materialize & the same applied to other service providers. The report has further claimed that only companies disposing on high level liquidity would be enabled to maintain a distinguished post on the market in 2010. An L.E. 100 million project was launched to involve with electronic waste recycling to operate in Egypt and Arab Countries. A protocol on the above was signed between Feb 11, 2010 the Ministry of Telecommunications and I.T. and the Ministry of State for Environment Affairs for duration of 2 years renewable. Protocol provides for the building of a database on sources of electronic waste within Greater Cairo and on developing a program to consolidate the participation of companies and corporations concerned to enhance awareness of electronic waste. An almost quarter page full reportage is deemed a useful piece of market literature to concerned businesses and parties. Canada based Astra International said it has entered an alliance with Cairo based Unitel & SPEC - Systems & Projects Engineering Co. to promote communications Feb 01, 2010 solutions in Egypt. That was announced by Eng. Mohamed Gad, Chairman of Unitel, indicating that the alliance targets to achieve L.E. 100 million sales during its first year of operation. The executive revealed that the alliance would be formally launched during ICT trade fair to be held soon in Cairo. N.B. Days earlier the media indicated that Egyptian companies are now first rank targeted by Canadian investors for their expansion projects in the region. Eng. Gad revealed that Astra operations cover more than 50 million mobile telephone lines in more than 100 countries around the globe dedicated for commercial communications. CeBIT 2010 - a world leading international ICT Exhibition is now to be held in Hanover, Germany, March 2 to 6, 2010 and ten Egyptian I.T. companies (only) are Feb 27, 2010 participating on the event, yet under 85 % subsidies from ITIDA. N.B. The figure is far behind expectation & does not commensurate at all with the huge government support & budgets allocated to enhance the ICT national industry. It may even lead to disqualify all efforts & investments spent by the government & other numerous businessmen organizations & NGOs which received millions, if not tens or hundreds of millions of foreign assistance from donors, particularly from the US & the EU, not to overlook earlier endorsed I.T. export subsidies fees. He noted that controlling fishing operations at those lakes will boost fish production & reduce market pressures on red meat. N.B. Neutral observers indicated that a similar system is also needed to abate excess of rice plantations beyond state's quotas, also to monitor any changes on huge areas of empty state owned land lots. Egypt's Minister of Communications would not exclude the issuance of a fourth mobile telephone license. That was a front page title in the media quoting Dr. Eng. Tarek Jan 26, 2010 Kamel, Minister of Communications & I.T., yet adding that it is conditional on availing suitable market conditions. The Minister confirmed that no legal conditions exist to prevent the Government from issuing such license should market conditions tolerate such a development. N.B. Statements were made weeks ahead from the expected meeting to be held by the Minister with executives of both Orascom Telecom & France Telecom to try to solve existing disputes between them. Egyptian Post Office said it is preparing to extend money transfer services via Internet & mobile telephone under the slogan Mobile Banking. That was reported in the Feb 15, 2010 media publishing an almost half page full interview held with Mr. Ashraf Zaki, Acting Chairman of the Egyptian Post Office. The Executive revealed the Authority's plan to extend its promotion efforts of mobile via 40 mobile points now operating & to be increased to 100 mobile points by the mid of 2010. N.B. Worth indicating is that Eng. Naguib Sawires, Chairman of Orascom Telecom, was the pioneer in Egypt to promote the mobile money transfer service concept, yet his application is, obviously, still under processing. The reportage on the issue is deemed an interesting piece of market literature to concerned businesses & parties. For how long would the national ICT industry continue to suffer from practices involving fraud & the use of falsified components and specifications that remains to be Mar 04, 2010 seen. An almost one page full reportage, addressing repeatedly the issue, seems worth comprehension, monitoring & follow up by concerned businesses and parties. N.B. Earlier media reports indicated that only 10 ICT companies (obviously excluding multinationals operating in Egypt) have participated on Cebit ICT fair held in Hanover, Germany. Figure is by all means shocking.
