Continuing Medical Education (CME) Information This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology and the Association of Pathology Chairs. The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Federation designates this educational activity for a maximum of 29.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Meeting Objective and Educational Goals: Academic departments of pathology and laboratory medicine are facing significant pressures which adversely impact their ability to carry out their missions of teaching, clinical service, and research. This meeting focuses on undergraduate (medical school), graduate (residency and fellowship), and lifelong pathology education, as well as the development of educational programs and curricular for training of medical students, residents, fellows, and senior pathologists. The target audience is professionals (MD, DO, PhD) and others who serve as the academic, medical, scientific, and administrative leaders of departments of pathology and laboratory medicine in the and Canada.

Upon completion of this meeting, participants should understand: • the issues facing the profession of pathology • how to adapt to technological advances • the new approaches to the teaching of pathology to future and current physicians • the need to advance scholarly effort in the practice of medicine • the network of contacts that can help participants meet new educational responsibilities • how to increase the quality of patient care provided through pathology departments

Speaker Disclosures: The Association of Pathology Chairs (APC) and The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) require that audiences at educational programs sponsored by APC and FASEB be informed of a presenter’s (speakers, faculty, authors, contributors) academic and professional affiliations, and the disclosure of the existence of any significant financial interest or other relations a presenter has with the manufacturer(s) of any commercial products(s) discussed in an educational presentation. This policy allows the listener/attendee to be fully knowledgeable in evaluating the information being presented.

Presenters were asked to disclose any relationship that may bias one’s presentation or which, if known, could give the perception of bias. These situations may include, but are not limited to: 1) stock options or bond holdings in a for-profit corporation or self-directed pension plan; 2) research grants; 3) employment (full or part-time); 4) ownership or partnership; 5) consulting fees or other remuneration; 6) non-remunerative positions of influence such as officer, board member, trustee, or public spokesperson; 7) receipt of royalties; 8) speakers bureau; or 9) other.
