The day before NYE, I spent 2 hours running (err, shuffling) the beach from Goolwa to Port Elliot. About 13km, I could see the obelisk of Elliot ahead where I'd meet the family for lunch. The beach constantly changed - soft, firm, shell-covered and, when I wasn't watching, underwater. Had my eyes down to decide where each footstep should go. But kept looking up to ensure the obelisk hadn't disappeared. Now and then I remembered to glance out to sea, breathe in and remind myself how good this place is. Finished a bit fried with sore feet (but got my fish'n'chip lunch & a bucketful of personal satisfaction). This year, through eclectic stories, book reviews, fresh perspectives and gauntlets thrown at your feet, I'm aiming to help you cross the sand; Define & remember the business outcomes most important to you Focus on processes you need to get there Galvanise habits & disciplines to keep you moving, and Lift your eyes to remember to enjoy what you're doing! Welcome to your daily sales beach run. Anyone can run on sand.

Use personal judgment and close supervision to ensure child‟s safety when using these activities. Presented by Jennifer Urosevic and Lee-Anne Cross, Texas Focus Conference, June 2003. Use personal judgment and close supervision to ensure child‟s safety when using these activities. INTRODUCTION Concept development and sensory awareness begin in infancy and continue to develop throughout a child‟s life. They are intertwined in every part of one‟s life, whether as a preschooler learning left from right, as a child learning Braille, or as a teenager learning to use cardinal directions. When these skills are continuously reinforced in all aspects of a child‟s life, and throughout daily routines, the child will ultimately gain greater independence. In our fast-paced society, it is tempting to search for the perfect toy which will teach children, while overlooking the many opportunities and tools which exist within our own homes and communities. The benefits of using household items and daily routines are many. We need to provide activities and opportunities which are rich, varied, and which help to develop concepts and life skills. It is easy to begin to search for the ideal toy, flashy and bright, which will teach these skills. And certainly, these types of toys do have a place in a child‟s play.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION CSR SITE, PYRMONT ( JACKSONS LANDING ) Volume 1: Description, Analysis & Interpretation for Lend Lease Development December 2000 CASEY & LOWE ASSOCIATES Archaeology & Heritage __________________________________________________________ 420 Marrickville Road, Marrickville NSW 2204 • Tel: (02) 9568 5375 Fax: (02) 9572 8409 • Mobile: (0419) 683 152 • E-mail: [email protected] Report Summary REPORT SUMMARY BACKGROUND During October to December 1996 Casey & Lowe Associates undertook the archaeological excavation and testing of areas within the then CSR site (Figs 1.1, 1.2). This site was acquired by Lend Lease to develop into residential accommodation and is now called Jackson’s Landing. The potential archaeological remains of the whole of the CSR site were addressed in an archaeological assessment written by Casey & Lowe Associates in August 1996, ‘Archaeological Assessment CSR Site, Pyrmont’, for Howard Tanner & Associates on behalf of Civil & Civic. This report identified the potential survival of archaeological remains in a number of areas throughout the CSR site. Those sections where the remains were considered to have the greatest potential for survival and were accessible were tested. Three areas were found to have considerable remains and were excavated. Two other areas were found to have limited archaeological remains and were also excavated. Area A contained the remains of four houses, Houses 15 to 21 New Street, Pyrmont (Plans 1, 2, Photo 1). Area B contained the remains of three houses, Houses 67 and 69 Bowman Street and 2 New Street, Pyrmont (Plans 5, 6, Photo 2). Area C contained the remains of four houses, Houses 1 to 7 McCredie Street, a footpath and roadway, Pyrmont (Plans 9-12, Photo 3).

  • Transit by Ben Aaronovitch Prologue the Doctor Stood Alone on A
Transit By Ben Aaronovitch Prologue The Doctor stood alone on a Devonian beach and tried to persuade the lungfish to return to the sea. 'You won't like it,' said the Doctor. He noticed that the fish's fins had become short stubby legs. It had become an Ichthyostega, the first true amphibian. The Doctor checked his watch. About two million years early at that. 'You're making a big mistake,' said the Doctor. The amphibian ignored him, its flat head fixed on the line of cool vegetation ahead. It had covered a quarter of the distance across the hot white sand. 'I know it's crowded in there,' pleaded the Doctor. 'I know the food chain is overstocked, I know it's a fish-eat-fish ocean ...' He trailed off. The gill slits had healed up, the legs lengthened. Claws sprouted from the feet. The panting mouth was full of teeth. From across the sea came the sound of thunder. 'Don't do it," said the Doctor. But too late. The reptile was suddenly flushed with hot blood. Hair sprouted over its body, it got off its belly and surged up the beach, getting smaller all the time.
