The extreme poverty and subsequent abnormally havy, our migrations are two major problem of Dahod and Panchmahals district Incidentally, all the villagers in the region have their own land means they are landholders and their condition is worse than other landholders. Thakkar affectionately known as Thakkar Bapa in the year 1922-23 SHORT HISTORY OF THE MANDAL There was a famine in the year 1919-20 and 1920-21 in Panchmahal District , Bhil residing in Dahod and Jhalod Talukas of the District of Panchmahals in the province of Bombay were the main sufferers of the famine. Late Shri Sukhdevbhai Trivedi who left Goverment Service on seeing the plight of Bhils in famine drew the attention of mahatma Gandhiji and on his suggestion the Servants of Indaia Society deputed late Shri Thakkar Bapa , who toured the area , collected information and sent a report to Mahatma Gandhiji , Servants of India Society and to the press , A local committee named " DAHOD SANKAT RAHAT SAMITI " was formed by late Shri Thakkar Bapa and indualal Yagnik opened Centres to give relief in form of cheap grain , through fair price shops Doles and cloths to old and disabled persons. Started cattle camps to save useful cattle. Funds were collected by Shri Thakkar Bapa and Shri Indulal Yagnik who were the Secretaries of the committee. During the famine relief Shri Thakkar Bapa Shri Indualal Yagnilk and Shri Sukhsdevbhai Trivedi realised that the Adivasis were poverty stricken , illiterate , ignorant were under heavy debts and were harassed by Goverment Servants and exploited by Shahukars , Rev. Thakkar Bapa decided to start social work of a permanent nature to save tribals from exploitation and to impart education to tribal boys with the main purpose of creating social workers from among the tribal people and started an Ashram School at Mirakhedi in Jhalod taluka as an experment Shri Dahyabhai J. Naik a snatak of Gujarat Vidhyapith was incharge of the Ashram. The experiment seemed to be successful and for expanding the work he started Bhil Seva Mandal in 1923 for education , economic and social development of Adivasis , A few primary schools also were started during the relief works. Ashram school experiment was successful. The Mandal has expanded its welfare activities and started two more Ashram schools, one at Jesawada and the other at Jhalod in the year 1923. Late Shri Pandurang Govind Vanikar and Shri Ambalal Vyas who has left their colleges from B.A Class and joined non-cooperation movement started by Mahatma Gandhiji Joined Bhil Seva Mandal Late Shri Vanikar was incharge of Jesawada Ashram School and Shri Ambalal P. Vyas developed Ashram School on the bank of river Titodi at Jhalod. In 1946 Shri. Ambalal Vyas was deputed to orissa by Shri Thakkar Bapa and since then has worked as state welfare organisor among the tribals of orissa. Shri Ishwarlal Vaidya and Shri Rupajibhai Parmar Ex. M.P. Joined Bhil Seva Mandal and dedicated their lives to the cause of Adivasis and downtrodden peoples of India Late Shri Chaturbhai Dangi also joined Bhil Seva Mandal Seven life members pledged for 20 years dedicated service to Adivasis in 1927 at Ramji Mandir in Jesawada eswatika Kumar Ashram. Bhil Seva Mandal is keen and concious about the dedicated service heritage of the institution , which is the pioneering and sound management in tribal welfare activities. The impact of bhil Seva mandals educational and Tribal welfare uplift activites is clearly seen in these area. Bhil Seva Mandal is proud of its dedicated life members and workers of different branches and centres. Shri Pandurang Vanikar was deputed to Mandla in (Mandhya Pradesh) in the year 1944 by Shri Thakkar Bapa to start the work among the tribals residing in the state of Madhya Pradesh He worked as Honorary organiser in Tribal welfare department He Started Ashrams and Ashram Schools for tribals under Vanvasi Seva Mandal , Mandla to impart education to tribal community. Late Shri Laxmidas Shrikant who was a Treasurer of the Bombay Congress Committee , left it and Joined with Shri Thakkar Bapa in 1923 , in Bhil Seva Mandal. He has continuously donated Rs. 3000/- per year for many years to Bhil Seval Mandal. The following are the Trustees of the Bhil Seva Mandal , Dahod. Shri Narshinhbhai K. Katara - DAHOD They guide us to frame the policy of our institution They inspire the workers also and help us in raising fund. Majority of the workers working in the institution are tribals , who are trained in the institutions conducted by the Mandal Rev. Shri Thakkar Bapa was of the opinion that the Management of the institution should be in the hands of tribal worker of the community for whose welfare it has worked. At present the affairs of the Mandal is totally managed by the dedicated tribal workers. This is a main achievement of the Mandal.
