Because of GLAAD’s work, the Boy Scouts of America is closer than ever before to ending its discriminatory ban on gay scouts and leaders. GLAAD is empowering people like Jennifer Tyrrell – an Ohio mom who was ousted as leader of her son’s Cub Scouts pack – to share their stories with top-tier national news outlets, helping Americans understand the harm this ban inflicts on gay youth and families.

    AAUWCOLORADObulletin fall 2015 Fall Leadership Conference-- Focusing On the Strategic Plan Our Fall Leadership Conference will be held August 28-29 at Lion Square Lodge in Vail, Colorado. Lion Square Lodge is located in the Lionshead area of Vail. The group rates are available for up to 2 days prior and 2 days after our conference subject to availability. The Fall Conference is a time for state and branch offi cers to meet and work together. The conference is open to any member, but branches should be sure to have their offi cers attend and participate. This is your opportunity to help us as we work toward the achieve- ment of the state strategic plan. This year’s conference will focus on areas identifi ed in the strategic plan. We have also utilized input received from Branch Presidents on a survey conducted this spring where the greatest need identifi ed was Mission Based Pro- gramming. We will be incorporating the topic of Mission Based Programing during the conference. Branch Program and Branch Membership Chairs should also attend to gain this important information. There will be a time for Branch Presidents/Administrators who arrive on Friday afternoon to meet together. This will be an opportunity to get acquainted with your peers and share successes and provide input to the state offi cers on what support you need. The state board will also be meeting on Saturday. A New Jersey native, Miller’s Broadway producing credits include the current revival of West Side Story (Tony nomination for Best Musical Revival and Grammy Award Winner for Best Musical Show Album), The Drowsy Chaperone (winner of five 2006 Tony Awards; Drama Desk and NY Drama Critics’ Circle Awards for Best Musical), and The Pee-wee Herman Show (opening October 26). Before crossing the river to New York, Miller was Associate Producer of the acclaimed Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ, from 1991 to 2004 where he produced over eighty musicals and plays including Animal Crackers starring Kristin Chenoweth, Follies starring Ann Miller, Gypsy starring Betty Buckley and Deborah Gibson, and Stephen Schwartz’s new musical Children of Eden . Miller may be new to the leadership of Surflight, but he is no stranger to the Beach Haven theatre's 450- seat venue. While performing in a high school production of Funny Girl in his hometown of Irvington, NJ, Miller was offered an apprenticeship at Surflight by the show’s director and Surflight founder Joseph P. Hayes. That first introduction to summer theatre at the Jersey Shore in 1975 was followed by two subsequent seasons as an apprentice and, eventually, as a member of the acting company in 1978.
