This climate has served to attract skilled and passionate winemakers that add their personalities to the story. As the appeal of hard ciders continues to spread, we are fortunate to have orchardists experienced in curating their home grown and hand-crafted blends right here in the heart of Washington’s apple country. People flock to trivia nights, home brewing club meetings, and great food at their favorite spots. One thing is clear: there is nothing so fine as raising a glass of local suds with friends at the end of a day full of adventures. Breweries listed on page 31. A century ago, settlers invested their time and personal fortunes to irrigate the arid landscape. Now with fresh water readily available, the region is ripe with bumper crops of fresh seasonal bounty that nourish our children, our souls, our economy and our world. Only 12 miles from Wenatchee, the ski area is built into a 2,000 acre basin on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains. A little higher, a little drier, and quite a bit “sunshinier” (300 days annually, in fact) than the other mountains in the region. That means when storms come in, they drop a different kind of snow at Mission: light, dry powder. Package deals for lodging, lessons and rentals make it a top choice for winter fun! Plan your visit—check the schedule for mountain events and concerts.
