Main Purpose of Job:

BADMINTONscotland wishes to appoint a Regional Development Officer to work in the West Central Regional Sporting Partnership area. The Officer will contribute to the overall delivery of the BADMINTONscotland Strategy and to the achievement of the targets contained in the Strategy.

The Officer will:

 Develop a regional plan for the West Central area and local work plans  Work in partnership with all pertinent local and national partners to develop, promote and enhance badminton  Work with clubs to develop membership, particularly junior membership  Develop the coaching and volunteering workforce in West Central identifying needs to support the development of clubs  Develop the pathways for the sport from school to club to performance

Terms & Conditions of the post:

Employed by BADMINTONscotland, the officer will be an integral part of an operational staff of 17.

The post holder will work under the management of BADMINTONscotland’s Chief Executive and will be line managed by the BADMINTONscotland Coaching & Development Manager.

The position is a full-time, fixed term contract with a standard working week of 37 hours excluding a 36-minute lunch break, Monday to Friday. Willingness to work outside of normal office hours where appropriate and at weekends is essential for this role. Salary £23,000 - £25,000 dependant on experience.

The officer will be based at BADMINTONscotland Head Office, 40 Bogmoor Place, Glasgow G51 4TQ.

The officer may seek permission from the Chief Executive to engage in a reasonable amount of private work provided that it in no way interferes with his/her full and effective application of his/her duties.

Pension:

BADMINTONscotland will contribute 6% to an approved pension on the proviso that the officer contributes 6%.

Annual Leave and Public Holidays:

The annual leave entitlement is 20 days to be taken by arrangement with the Chief Executive. The leave year runs from 1st January. In addition, there is an annual entitlement of 10.5 days public holidays.

Travel and Subsistence Allowance:

Travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with BADMINTONscotland current rates. A car will be provided for the successful candidate.

Probation, Confirmation and Notice:

The appointment will be confirmed after the satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 6 months, during which employment is terminable by one week’s written notice. Thereafter, the employment is terminable on either side by 3 calendar months’ written notice.

Term of Appointment:

The appointment will be made in the first instance for a fixed term ending 31 March 2017. Six months prior to the end of the period the situation will be reviewed. This will be done with reference to the continued relevance of the post, personal performance over the preceding period and any financial considerations at that time.

Notwithstanding the above, dismissal on disciplinary grounds can apply with immediate effect.

Key duties and responsibilities:

 To grow active club membership.  To lead the delivery of the BADMINTONscotland Strategy in the West Central area, develop and maintain an overall delivery plan for the area, including local plans for each local authority area and ongoing work programmes.  Within the parameters of this delivery plan, to work with badminton clubs to ensure their affiliation to BADMINTONscotland and their ongoing development.  To work co-operatively with all other BADMINTONscotland staff, including regular meetings and input to the development of national programmes, utilising best practice and shared resources.  To identify and develop a club which provides a suitable environment to develop athletes to performance level.  To work as part of the Coaching and Development Team with other Regional Development Officers and National Staff and input to the development of all areas of BADMINTONscotland through examples of best practice and shared resources.  To create and develop partnerships with and between schools, clubs, local authorities and higher and further education.

 To work closely with staff in partner and stakeholder organisations to ensure that coach education, marketing, branding, public relations, equality, child protection, monitoring, reporting, local administration and presence at events are planned well in advance and in accordance with BADMINTONscotland staff procedures.  To work to a programme agreed annually and reviewed regularly with the Coaching and Development Manager, this delivers directly against the BADMINTONscotland Strategy.  To maintain records of all activities in the West Central RSP area and to monitor results against targets.  To promote the work of BADMINTONscotland at all times.  Administration and other support functions.  To assist with any other duties as required to enhance the business of BADMINTONscotland
