The City of Okoboji is seeking a strong and self-confident leader to be their next City Administrator. The City of Okoboji One of the most beautiful and popular places in Northern Iowa is Lake Okoboji. The clear, beautiful lake draws tens of thousands of people to its shore from a radius of over 200 miles. The City of Okoboji is a city in Dickinson County, Iowa, along the eastern shore of West Okoboji Lake in the Iowa Great Lakes region. The population was 807 at the 2010 census. Pikes Point State Park boarders the City. Okoboji is a major summer tourism area. A growing number of resorts around the Iowa Great Lakes and the proximity of other tourist-friendly sites, such as Arnolds Park and Spirit Lake, have contributed to its growing popularity. Okoboji is bordered by West Lake Okoboji on one side, East Lake Okoboji on the other side and the county toward the north. Residents feel the presence of the lakes at almost every home site in Okoboji, whether they are located on the miles of lakeshore frontage or in the wooded lots nearby. Although Okoboji is primarily a residential town, you will be delighted with the shops and restaurants, primarily located along the main corridor of the Lakes Area, US Highway 71. The community is home to a championship golf course, a par 3 golf course, the Pearson Lakes Art Center, two marinas, and six lodging properties. The City of Okoboji cares about maintaining the quiet beauty of Okoboji and offers comprehensive city services to residents. Fully Developed City The City is fully developed with a mix of residential and commercial. There has been a deliberate attempt to keep the “feel” of the community by limiting certain types of commercial activity and to preserve the jewel of the community, Lake Okoboji. A moratorium on lake shore landscaping reveals the serious intent of the community to protect it most beloved feature. The City has also been working diligently and strategically to keep the infrastructure on schedule for repairs and replacement. The water system, shared with neighboring cities, serves fewer than 10,000 customers for a large part of the year.
