    The Benefice of Walton and Trimley Benefice Profile 2019 Welcome and Introduction Welcome to the Benefice of Walton and Trimley and our profile. The Benefice is situated near the end of a peninsula bordered by the river Deben to the north, the river Orwell to the south and the North Sea to the east. Walton originally spanned a large area adjacent to a small fishing hamlet known as Felixstowe, with the Trimleys being slightly further inland. Today Walton and Trimley are considered to be on the outskirts of the town of Felixstowe. The Benefice was formed in 2014 from the parishes of St Mary’s Walton and St Martin’s and St Mary’s Trimley. Each church is happy and active but with its own identity. Both churches are central parts of the community around them and have church families with a heart and a desire for bringing Jesus to the people of their parish and sharing His love for them. The two parishes work closely together, they have equal and separate PCCs but do come together as a Benefice PCC three times a year. Each PCC contributes towards the Parish Share so that as a Benefice this is paid in full. The Benefice churches belong to and support Churches Together in Felixstowe which links the Christian witness in the town and provides joint ventures in which many members of the church families participate. These includes events during Unity Week, a procession of witness from St Mary’s church to the town centre on Good Friday where a united service is held and a ‘Son Rise’ service on Easter Sunday morning at the beach.

    for Issue Feb 2019 Connecting Communities ince becoming leader of Suffolk County Council, I have continued to keep broadband at the top of my agenda. I am pleased to tell you that the Better Broadband for Suffolk program has Sreached a new milestone, 93% of homes and businesses across Suffolk can now upgrade to a Superfast Broadband service. This is fantastic news and means an overwhelming majority of residents, businesses and organisations can now enjoy the benefits of faster and more reliable internet speeds. But as a resident and a councillor of a rural ward where some premises still do not enjoy these benefits, I know we have further to go. We already have a contract in place for Openreach to extend fibre broadband coverage to 98% of all Suffolk premises by 2020. But even beyond this, we are committed to reaching 100% Superfast Broadband coverage in Suffolk as quickly as possible. So, if you haven’t already done so, check if Superfast Broadband is available where you live by following the simple steps below, but don’t forget, even if broadband is available, you will need to upgrade your connection to enjoy the benefits of the higher speeds. Writing of the seventh and eighth centuries, the German doctor J. M. Lappenberg considered that none of the other English Kingdoms " excites the curiosity of the historical enquirer so much as that of East Anglia which, inhabited by Germans probably before -the time (449438)of (the purely eponymous) Hengest and Horsa, entirely surrounded by German- neighbours, in no contact with the Britons, must necessarily have presented a most faithful picture of Teutonic antiquity. Even at the present day in no other part of England do so many well preserved German names of places declare whOwere their ancient lords and founders. Many remarkable traditions, though hitherto not sufficientlyinvestigated and sifted for use as materials of history, are preserved relative to this district. Its position is particularly favourable to an intercourse with the Old-Saxons; and we may regard not only London in those remote times, but 168 THE SEA PORT OF FROSTENDEN. also the East Anglian ports Lynn, Yarmouth, .and Dunwich, as resorts for Frisic, Saxon and Gallic mariners and members of the several commercial guilds or hansen " (1845, pp. 241-3). Though the above legendary heroes are now known to represent nothing beyond the warlike prowess of the early Saxons of England, the many remarkable facts of their period still remain to a large extent unexplored by Suffolk historical inquirers. Among the most fascinating of these is the Domesday assertion that so late as the year 1065 " one sea port " existed within the limits of Frostenden village.

In the parish of Yaxley, near Eye, in Suffolk,there are still in existence two fairly extensive manors, and there was—indeed there may be now— the smalhem- nant of a third which is held under the Honor of Eye. First of all there is the main manor, dealt with by Dr. Copinger in his " Manors of Suffolk," III., 348, as • " The Manor of Yaxley." This was at a very-early date a portion of some property which had been vested in the Priory of Hoxne, and according to the Gilling- water MSS," WilliamCastleton, Prior ofthe monastery at Norwich sold to Sir Richard Gresham, Kt., the Priory or Cellat Hoxne, the Manor of Yaxley Hall, and all the revenues belongingthereto," recorded by Blome- field in his " History ,of Norfolk," thus, " William Castleton, Prior of Norwich, on April 1st, 1538, fore- seeing the Reformation alienated from the Church the cell at Hoxne, and Manor of Yaxley to Sir Richard Gresham Kt., for which he had absolution." I do not think this could possibly be intended for the Yaxley Hall of to-day, besides which there is a site called " Yaxley Manor House," and is so printed in Gothic letters on the Ordnance map. It almost joins the 2 YAXLEY HALL. I 'I, • boundary line between that parish and Mellis. This is now part of the Brome Hall Estate According to the IpswichJournal, 17th July, 1813,there was to be sold at the Angel Inn, Norwich, " the Manor of Yaxley, in the county of Suffolk, comprising 1210 acres of land, etc." Whether or no it then became the property of the Kerrisons I do not know ; anyhow, I do not think it ever was in the possession of the family of Yaxley, or was connected with the Yaxley Hall of to-day.

    Joint Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council Landscape Guidance August 2015 Joint Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council Landscape Guidance 2015 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 The landscape of Babergh and Mid Suffolk (South and North Suffolk) is acknowledged as being attractive and an important part of why people choose to live and work here. However current pressures for development in the countryside, and the changing agricultural and recreational practices and pressures, are resulting in changes that in some instances have been damaging to the local character and distinctiveness of the landscape. 1.1.1 Some development is necessary within the countryside, in order to promote a sustainable prosperous and vibrant rural economy. However, such development would be counterproductive if it were to harm the quality of the countryside/landscape it is set within and therefore the quality of life benefits, in terms of health and wellbeing that come from a rural landscape in good condition.1 1.1.2 The Council takes the view that there is a need to safeguard the character of both districts countryside by ensuring new development integrates positively with the existing character. Therefore, a Landscape Guidance has been produced to outline the main elements of the existing character and to outline broad principles that all development in the countryside will be required to follow. 1.1.3 Well designed and appropriately located development in the countryside can capture the benefits of sustainable economic development whilst still retaining and enhancing valuable landscape characteristics, which are so important to Babergh and Mid Suffolk. 1.1.4 The protection and enhancement of both districts landscape is essential not only for the intrinsic aesthetic and historic value that supports tourism and the economy for the area but also to maintain the quality of life for the communities that live in the countryside.
