João Luís Ramirez de Carvalho Cordeiro

Lieutenant-General João Luís Ramirez de Carvalho Cordeiro was born in April 1958, in Lisbon.

He joined the Aeronautic Military Sciences Course in the Military Academy in November 1977 and graduated as a pilot in Reese's Air Force Base, in the United States of America, in June 1983.

Returned from the U.S.A., he was assigned to 301 Squadron, Air Base nr. 6, Montijo, where he remained until 1989. There he achieved all possible qualifications in Fiat G-91, since operational pilot, to instructor pilot and in-flight Squadron Commander.

He performed several functions on the Squadron, standing out the leadership of the Photographic Section and Standardization/ Evaluation.

He enrolled the Superior Officers Course in 1989/1990, after which he was transferred to Air Base nr. 11, Beja, and assigned Commander of the 103 Squadron withthe aircrafts T-33 and T-38 and, for a period of nine months, was also the Commander of the Maintenance Squadron.

From 1992 to 1994 he was the Air Force Assistant at the Joint Chief of Staff General's Cabinet.

During the Academic Year of 1994/1995 he was the Commander of the Student's Group and the Chief of the Air Activities' Department at the Air Force Academy.

From September 1995 to February 1996 attended the Senior Officer's Course at the NATO Defence College, in Rome - .

From February 1996 to August 1997, LtGen Cordeiro performed duties as the Chief of the Planning and Functional Analysis Section at the Air Force Personnel Division. At the same time, from May until October 1997, he was also the Air Force representative in the study group for the development of the Military Service Law, at the Cabinet of the National Defence Minister.

Between August 1997 and July 1998 he was Assistant of the Minister of National Defence for the matters concerning the Air Force.

From October 1998 to October 2001 he was Assistant of the General MILREP in the field of Plans and Policy at NATO's Headquarters, in Brussels.

Returned from Belgium, was promoted to Coronel and took on the leadership of the Personnel Division at the Air Force Headquarters, from November 2001 to January 2004.

From January 2004 to October 2005 he was the Assistant of the Chief of the Cabinet of the Air Force Chief of Staff.

Between October 2005 and October 2007, was the commander of Air Base 5, Monte Real.

After being promoted to -General, was appointed and performed the duties of Deputy Commander of the Combined Air Operations Center 8, in Madrid, , from January 2009 to February 2012.

LtGen Cordeiro returned to to be the Air Force Academy Commander from February until September 2012.

Meanwhile, after the promotion to lieutenant-General, in August 2012 took over the duties of Air Force Logistic Commander until July 2013. He was promoted to his present rank on the 23rd July 2012 and in his duty file are several decorations and praises.

Lieutenant-General João Cordeiro is married and has two sons.
