MOCK INTERVIEW : JULY 2,

MOCK INTERVIEW OUTLINE -2016

Interview has become one of the assessment tools for the College/University/Institution admission and for job recruitment. And many students during the school years have actually not got the opportunity to face the interview so they don’t have the experience. Therefore students when they reach class XI they are taught and discussed about the interview skills. The lesson would include the definition and preparation needed for the interview. Once the lesson is done, few volunteer students would do the Role –Play. This batch of class XII did the lesson on interview skills by themselves in a group. Many of the group members demonstrated these skills either through acting or role play. Counselor corrected and added in between wherever they showed inappropriate interview behaviors. I feel students enjoyed and learnt better. When these students reach class XII, the Counselor arranges the Mock interview with the support from the Headmistress and the other staff members.

Objectives of the Program:

ENGLISH DAY: AUGUST 25

As per the School Dairy, the English Department of the Senior Section, Tibetan Children’s Village School, Upper Dharamsala, observed English Day on August 25, 2016. The main goal of observing such a day is to highlight the importance of English language in our daily lives and to create an input-rich environment for language acquisition and learning. The observance is expected to create a renewed focus on the language use amongst teachers and students in the daily classroom interaction of all subjects.

The main program of English Day was held in the school auditorium during the morning assembly. The day began with the recitation of school prayer – Ganglo ma – in English language. This was followed by extempore presentation by students of grade twelve. Five students took part in this extempore round and they gave on-the-spot presentation in English on their topic. The primary aim of this extempore activity is to give opportunities to students of higher classes to speak in English without prior preparation. This requires production of language in real situation, and hence topics were carefully selected to reflect everyday life so that it becomes easy for the participants to speak on.

Extempore was followed by the main program of the day – which is presentations by English language teachers. They introduced four contemporary authors in English who have gained worldwide popularity of their works. These presentations on various authors were aimed at creating awareness amongst students about some of the important contemporary writers in English and encourage them to read their books. Four authors were carefully selected to reflect various genre and cultural background. They were:

1. Pearl S.Buck –author of Pulitzer prize book ‘The Good Earth’ 2. Stephenie Meyer – author of bestselling Twilight series 3. Tsering Wangmo Dhompa – popular Tibetan author who writes in English 4. Sudha Murty – popular Indian author in English.

After the presentation on the four authors, a quiz was conducted with students of class nine and ten to gauge how much they have benefited from the presentation. Most of the questions were answered well by the students.

The whole day was observed as English speaking day and students and teachers were required to speak in English. This is meant to create an English speaking ethos and classroom culture, which again form an important part of comprehensive and meaningful language inputs. Even though it was strictly observed for only one day, we hope that many teachers and students will carry forward this approach in their classroom discussions and interactions.
