Daily Mileage - 10 miles Meet at Terontola Train Station for a shuttle to Agriturismo Il Molinello. We will get together at 12:30 pm in the Molinello Enoteca for lunch and a brief Hotel - Agriuturismo il introduction talk. In the afternoon after a bike fitting we will ride around Molinello Asciano (with an optional extra loop available). Well-kept pedestrian lanes meander among pretty piazzas, impressive palazzi and sturdy city gates. DAY 2 Highlights Today we ride along the Val di Chiana (with an optional extra loop) reaching VAL DI CHIANA Fattoria Santa Vittoria for a truly rustic, historical and organic feeling. The Val di Chiana is a huge fertile plain, bordering Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. Many villages dot the surrounding hills jewel with their unique heritage of art and history, which tell us of the Etruscans, Romans, and of the Renaissance age. From the moment you enter Fattoria Santa Vittoria you’ll feel as if you have stepped back in time. Fattoria Santa Vittoria uses modern day equipment, but it’s set among old rooms and impressive old historical equipment. Here you will visit the cellar, have lunch and a wine tasting. DAY 3 Highlights Today we will plunge into the Crete Senesi. The area to the south east of CRETE SENESI Siena, with its unique and at times lunar landscape. As the name implies, AND BRUNELLO DI this terrain is particularly rich in clay. The landscape is made up of soft, MONTALCINO rolling hills and winding roads, dotted with dune-like hills that give an almost other-worldly feel to the panorama. Siena HUNT hasn’t changed in appearances since the middle age and walking through its streets is like a travel in time, the search of a golden age. The historic city Daily Mileage - Optional 20 is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Piazza del Campo is the heart miles of the town and is the home to the famous summer horse-race, known as Il Palio. Meals - B In the morning there’s an exciting scavenger hunt looking for some of the 17 contradas’ fountains with Emma and Guido (Sandro’s children) and some of their Italian friends. After a light lunch on your own in a typical Sienese osteria, there’s a guided town visit (including the visit to a Contrada Museum). Dinner is also on your own in Siena. DAY 5 Highlights Today we will work with Nonno Mauro (Sandro’s Father) and Guido (Sandro’s FAMILY DAY ON THE son) to create your own vegetable garden (when you return home you’ll be FARM able to follow your garden on Facebook!), harvesting the vegetable for our meal and picking the eggs from the hen house. AND ADVENTURE PARK A fun challenge for measuring balance, coolness, agility, and dexterity in SALTALBERO complete safety. Together we’ll prepare and have a barbecue in the park with an optional visit to the handcrafted fashion workshop in Chiantishire.     I bolli Guller delle province di Siena e Grosseto Massimo Monaci e Paolo Saletti (Aspot) Presentazione Il servizio postale è tuttora un campo fertile di ricerca per chi ha voglia e tempo, ma credo che in tema di bolli ci sia ben poco di importante da scoprire, almeno per il periodo fin ad oggi indagato, che dai precursori va fino ai tondo- riquadrati, vale a dire fino a cent’anni fa. E dopo? Dopo vengono i bolli Guller, così chiamati dal nome della ditta svizzera che li fabbricava e che fornì per alcuni anni anche le nostre Poste. Queste in seguito provvidero da sé, incaricando (forse dal 1926 in poi) le singole Direzioni postali di provvedere quando ce ne fosse bisogno, per rottura o smarrimento dei timbri o per apertura di nuovi uffici, incaricando incisori locali; i bolli dovevano essere sempre del tipo Guller, ma inevitabilmente ci sono fra loro differenze di dimensione, caratteri, ornato e altro. Ebbene, questi bolli – Guller o tipo Guller - furono in dotazione a tutti gli uffici postali (direzioni, ricevitorie e collettorie) aperti nel secolo scorso e crediamo sia il caso di cominciare a occuparcene più di quanto si è fatto finora. Saltuariamente c’è stato in passato un certo interesse, specialmente per i cosidetti “frazionari”, poi non ne ho più sentito parlare.     in ricordo di Felice Panichi PREFAZIONE Un affresco, una via di pellegrinaggio Sono particolarmente lieto di vedere pronta per la divulgazione, qui ad Asciano, con un libro ed una mostra, una ricca documentazione storica e artistica raccolta con entusiasmo e competenza, in questi ultimi mesi di intenso lavoro, da un gruppo di studiosi del luogo, con i quali ho avuto il piacere di collaborare sin dal principio di questa iniziativa, mettendo a disposizione tutto quanto delle mie ricerche, cominciate nel lontano 1984, poteva loro servire. Si apre così ad Asciano, al grande pubblico, a chi vorrà leggere la pubblicazione, vedere la mostra e percorrere gli itinerari proposti, un mondo, un territorio, tutto da riscoprire, che si rivela modellato nei secoli da avvenimenti storici, da realizzazioni artistiche, da espressioni di devozione e di fede. E’ la Via Lauretana, che dopo un lungo periodo di dimenticanza, viene riscoperta, pubblicamente, per quello che in effetti è stata per secoli, una importante e frequentata via di pellegrinaggio, che convogliava pellegrini della Francigena e del territorio toscano verso la Santa Casa di Loreto. Con questa nuova consapevolezza, tutto apparirà più chiaro, ai residenti come ai visitatori, agli storici come agli amanti dell’arte, agli studiosi delle vie di pellegrinaggio di ieri come di quelle di oggi; e saranno chiaramente più leggibili il tracciato della strada, che punta da Siena attraverso le Crete, verso Loreto, le immagine sacre, i tabernacoli, le edicole viarie, le cappelle che la impreziosiscono, il numero e la ricchezza delle chiese, delle sedi di confraternite, di conventi, spedali, luoghi di accoglienza, taverne, fonti di acqua che vi si trovano.

    TAPPE VIA LAURETANA da SIENA a CORTONA SIENA – VESCONA Difficoltà lunghezza totale tempo di percorrenza E 19,6 KM 4 h 45 min. dislivello positivo dislivello negativo quota massima 430 m - 395 m 365 mslm DESCRIZIONE Lasciata la meravigliosa Piazza del Campo si prende per via del Pantaneto e la si segue fino ad incrociare sulla sinistra via dei Pispini che ci condurrà direttamente ad una delle porte più antiche della città, ovvero Porta Pispini. Oltrepassata la porta e attraversata la strada, si prende per via Sant’Eugenia che, scendendo, ci riporterà su via Aretina e di lì, seguendo la banchina segnalata per pedoni, si arriva nei pressi della rotonda sulla ss 73 in loc. Due Ponti. Mantenendo la destra si segue prima il marciapiede e poi una comoda ciclo pedonale fino all’attraversamento della ss 73 Senese-Aretina. Da qui si segue la strada per Ruffolo stando sempre attenti a mantenersi sul marciapiede (sono presenti appositi attraversamenti). Arrivati al circolo ricreativo e davanti al ristorante Ruffolo avremmo fatti circa 5 km; da qui si prosegue inizialmente su banchina pedonale e poi su marciapiede fino all’abitato di Taverne d’Arbia. Superato l’abitato di Taverne d’Arbia, dove possiamo trovare ogni genere di servizio, si passa il ponte sul fiume Arbia (prestare attenzione al traffico in quanto il ponte è stretto). Al di là del Ponte si segue un comodo marciapiede fino all’abitato di Arbia in cui è presente l’omonima stazione ferroviaria e un punto informazioni del Comune di Asciano. Usciti da Arbia si segue la provinciale Lauretana (SP 438) fino ad imboccare la strada sterrata sulla destra per Loc.
