Arrangement: The collection consists of a single photographic album. Biographical/Historical Note: Heinrich “Heinz” Gunermann was born January 23, 1899, in Munich, Germany. He was the son of Josef Gunermann, a police officer, and Crescentea (Prepstel) Gunermann, a homemaker. In January 1915, at just 16 years old, Gunermann joined the Bavarian infantry (Ersatztruppenteile der Infanterie Regimenter). He was later part of Infantry Regiment 18 and was with this unit when he was wounded shortly before November 30, 1916. Following his recovery, Gunermann served briefly with a Bavarian railroad reserve battalion (Eisenbahn- Ersatz-Bataillon). Gunermann took pilot training towards the end of World War I, in August of 1918. He trained at Flugwerft Schleißheim and Flugwerft Milbertshofen, not far from Munich. Gunermann served with Aviator Replacement Division (Flieger-Ersatz-Abteilung) 1 at Schleißheim. After the war, Gunermann was employed as a parachute demonstrator (Fallschrimunternehmer), and he owned a parachute company with his partner Peter Bäumler. Gunermann and his associates performed at numerous air shows across Germany, Switzerland, and Holland throughout the 1920s and into the 1930s. Gunermann was married (wife Apollonia) and had one child, Evelyn Isabelle Gunermann, born 1935 in Munich, Germany. Evelyn eventually moved to New York, sometime after her marriage. Gunermann died in Czechoslovakia in early 1939 from a heart attack. Scope and Content: The Heinrich Gunermann Album, entitled “Aus meiner Fliegerzeit” (My Time Flying), features numerous black and white photographs of aircraft and parachute exhibitions that performed at air shows throughout Germany, primarily during the 1920s and early 1930s. Some of the photos detail the flight training Gunermann took at the end of World War I. Most of the photographs in the album are identified and dated, framed by descriptive captions. Gunermann identifies himself in photos with an “X” and sometimes abbreviates his name as “G.” The † symbol indicates someone who is deceased. The album also contains newspaper clippings covering the various air shows. • The Cruiser Blücher – 9Th of April 1940 Alf R. Jacobsen DISCLAIMER
The Cruiser Blücher – 9th of april 1940 Alf R. Jacobsen DISCLAIMER: This is a non-professional translation, done purely for the love of the subject matter. Some strange wording is to be expected, since sentence structure is not always alike in English or Norwegian. I'm also not a military nut after 1500, so some officer ranks, division names and the like may be different than expected because of my perhaps too-literal translation. Any notes of my own will be marked in red. I will drop the foreword, since it probably is of little interest to anyone but Norwegians. I’ll probably bother to translate it if requested at a later time. NOTE: This is the first book in a series of four – The cruiser Blücher(9th of april 1940), the King’s choice (10th of april 1940), Attack at dawn – Narvik 9-10th of april 1940 and Bitter victory – Narvik, 10th of april – 10th of june 1940. I might do more of these if I get the time and there is interest. PROLOGUE Visst Fanden skal der skytes med skarpt! -By the Devil, we will open fire! Oscarsborg, 9th of april 1940 03.58 hours The messenger came running just before 4 o'clock. He was sent by the communications officer with a sharp telephonic request from the main torpedo battery’s central aiming tower on Nordre Kaholmen islet, 500 meters away. The essence was later formulated by the battery commander, Andreas Andersen, in the following manner: «I asked for an absolute order if the approaching vessels were to be torpedoed.» If there is one moment in a human life that stands out truer than the rest, fortress commander Birger Eriksen had his at Oscarsborg this cold spring morning.

  • Background Information: Fact Sheet
Press Amberg, February 23, 2015 Fact sheet: Amberg Electronics Plant • The Siemens Amberg Electronics Plant (German abbreviation: EWA) was established in 1989 and the range of products manufactured here includes Simatic programmable logic controllers (PLCs). • Today over 1000 product variants are manufactured in Amberg. They are used to control machines and equipment and automate manufacturing, saving time and money and increasing product quality. • Simatic controls onboard systems of cruise ships as well as industrial manufacturing processes, for example within the automobile industry, or even ski lifts. • Production in Amberg itself is also controlled using Simatic. Within 24 hours, products for around 60,000 customers worldwide are prepared for delivery. • A fully automatic transport system ensures that the material is brought from warehouse to machine in 15 minutes. • During three-shift operation, over 3 million components are placed per year. • Even though the production area has remained unchanged (10,000 m²) and the number of employees has hardly changed, the plant has increased its production volumes eightfold. • Around 1200 employees work at EWA. • Production quality at EWA is at 99.9988 percent. "I don't know of any comparable plant worldwide that has achieved such a low defect rate," says Karl-Heinz Büttner, who heads the EWA. • The factory produces approximately 15 million Simatic products per year. At 230 working days per year, this means that it produces one control unit every second. • Production is largely automated. Machines and computers handle 75 percent of the value chain on their own; a quarter of the work is done by people. Only at the beginning of the manufacturing process is anything touched by human hands, when an employee places the bare circuit board on a production line.

Spence Chairman The Honorable Ronald V. Dellums Ranking Minority Member Committee on National Security House of Representatives For school year 1994-95, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DODDS) system enrolled 88,569 students in 191 schools worldwide and had a budget of approximately $860 million. Most students were Department of Defense (DOD) command-sponsored, military or civilian dependents for whom DODDS is required by law to provide a free public education in overseas areas, and most were enrolled as space-required students. About 6 percent, or 5,489 students, were enrolled as space-available students—that is, dependents who were not command sponsored and thus not eligible for space-required enrollment, but were allowed to enroll if space was available. About 3,000 of these space-available students paid tuition, while the other 2,500 attended tuition free. As part of our continuing review of DODDS, as directed by the Conference Report accompanying the 1994 Defense Authorization Act, we were asked to provide information on educating DOD dependents overseas.1 More specifically, we focused our efforts on (1) reviewing legislation that establishes eligibility and authorizes funding for students to enroll in DODDS as space-available, (2) identifying the number of students enrolled as space-available and their locations, and (3) explaining the circumstances surrounding high space-available enrollments in some schools.

  • Amberg Modern Town Center with an Old Tradition
AMBERG MODERN TOWN CENTER WITH AN OLD TRADITION A delightful experience! ”Opposites attract”. Amberg is a living example of this proverb. With its almost thousand years of history a and before its impressive, historical backdrop, the town of Amberg has entered the new millennium as a modern shopping and service centre with a broad range of cultural events. Modern and traditional features are closely intertwined, forming a harmonious entity which provides excellent quality of life. No wonder that t living and working in this place are as pleasant as taking a holiday here. Amberg is worth a visit - you’ll see! Looking with amazement One of the most famous and beautiful landmarks of Amberg are the ”town spectacles” - a water gate construction spanning the Vils river, which formerly served to fortify town and to connect the new castle to the armoury (”Zeughaus”). Next to it, the town wall encircling the ancient centre with a double fortification, its towers and gates, the Gothic town hall with its renaissance wing, mighty churches and many other historical buildings are characteristic for the unique image of the town. Visit the most impressive buildings: the ”Alte Veste”, the new castle and the ”Zeughaus” (today, both pro- one buildings accommodate the rural district grams council offices), the ”Klösterl” and the ”Regierungskanzlei” (seat of the office of the government’s chancellor, where today the Regional Court is located). As the term “Regierungskanzlei” suggests, Amberg was the seat of the government of the ”Upper Palatinate” for many years. This era of the town on the Vils river, who owed its prosperity to ore- mining and the salt trade, ended in 1810.

  • Intelligence Infiltration of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Soviet Intelligence
258 INTERNAL SECURITY REVIEW 20/19 Marek Świerczek Intelligence infiltration of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Soviet intelligence Introduction In 2009 a set of documents by L.F. Sockow1, entitled Секреты польской политики. Сборник документов was issued in Moscow. It contained selected materials from the SVR archive (Служба Внешней Разведки Российской Федерации, СВР2) that come from the INO GUGB NKVD (Иностранный отдел Главного управления государственной безопасности Народного комиссариата внутренних дел СССР, INO GUGB NKVD3) and that referred to the foreign politics of the Second Republic of Poland 1935‒1945. Both the editor of the work, i.e. the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and the set of documents with a clear-cut introduction by gen. Lev Filipovich Sockow leave no room for doubt about the propaganda nature of the work. And it was received exactly so by the Polish side. Polish historians and journalists tried to discredit the paper by proving that the thesis suggested there about the alleged politics of rapprochement between the Second Republic of Poland and Nazi Germans to establish that probable alliance against the USSR is in reality a manipulation. Probably it was only Władysław Bułhak who admitted that gen. Sockow’s work proves the thesis that the Soviets had an agent in the Polish MoFA. He developed a hypothesis that the documents of the Polish MoFA published in the set could have been the result of a disinformation operation carried out by the II Department of the Polish General Staff (further: II Department) against INO GUGB NKVD.4 Apart from the short discussion storm the work did not seriously change the way the intelligence infiltration of the state institutions of the II Republic of Poland by the Soviet intelligence.
