ABSTRACT The following catalog presents a detailed list of cerambycidae (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) that are part of the collection of the Department of Invertebrate Zoology at the Provincial Museum of Natural Science “Florentino Ameghino” in Santa Fe, Argentina. In the collection, the family Cerambycidae, is represented for six subfamilies: Antoplodermatinae, Prioninae, Lepturinae, Cerambycinae, Lamiinae and Spondylinidae, that include a large variety of genera and species. This catalog include specimens from different localities in the provinces of Santa Fe, Córdoba, Santiago de Estero, La Rioja, Misiones, Tucumán, Chaco, Entre Ríos, Neuquén and Chubut. On the other hand, the catalog is also enriched with copies from different parts of the word, like: Italy, Ukraine, Poland, Japan, etc. AND STEVEN W. LINGAFELTER Systematic Entomology Laboratory, Agriculture Research Service, United States Department of Agriculture, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution,Washington, DC 20013-7012, U.S.A. Current address: 8920 South Bryerly Ct., Hereford, AZ 85615, U.S.A. ABSTRACT This article presents both ethnoentomological notes on Nahuatl and Mixtec language terms as they are applied to Cerambycidae (Coleoptera) and distributional records for species collected during three projects carried out in the states of Guerrero and Puebla, Mexico. Some comparative data from other Mesoamerican and Native American languages are discussed. Indigenous common names are mapped onto current taxonomic nomenclature, and an analysis is offered of the logical basis for Indigenous classification: the exclusion of some cerambycids and the inclusion of other beetles in the nominal native “cerambycid” category. New state distributional records for the Cerambycidae collected in this study are offered for Guerrero: Bebelis picta Pascoe, Callipogon senex Dupont, Neocompsa macrotricha Martins, Olenosus ser- rimanus Bates, Ornithia mexicana zapotensis Tippmann, Stenygra histrio Audinet-Serville, Strongylaspis championi Bates, Lissonotus flavocinctus puncticollis Bates, and Nothopleurus lobigenis Bates; and Puebla: Juiaparus mexicanus (Thomson), Ptychodes guttulatus Dillon and Dillon, and Steirastoma senex White. Key Words: linguistics, etymology, Nahuatl, Mixtec, longhorned beetle, wood-borer DOI.org/10.1649/0010-065X-71.2.301 The present article emerges from two language shapes.

DACS-P-01678 Pest Alert created 11-December-2006 Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry Charles H. Bronson, Commissioner of Agriculture Another Neotropical Longhorn Beetle (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) Apparently New to the Mainland of Florida Michael C. Thomas, [email protected], Taxonomic Entomologist, Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry INTRODUCTION: Oxymerus aculeatus lebasi Dupont, a distinctive yellow and black longhorn beetle, has been collected twice in Miami-Dade County in recent years, suggesting that it is established in extreme South Florida. IDENTIFICATION: This is a medium-sized (10-17mm), yellow and black beetle (Fig. 1). The combination of its somewhat fusiform body shape, truncate elytral apices with a strong external spine, and color pattern is unique in the Florida fauna and makes it readily recognizable. BIOLOGY: Little is known about the biology of this species. Other members of the tribe are reported to bore in dead, dry branches as larvae. The adults are active during the day. DISTRIBUTION: Oxymerus aculeatus lebasi has been recorded from Mexico south to Brazil, and from several islands in the Caribbean (Huedepohl 1979). It has not been recorded previously from the United States. The first Florida specimen was collected by Lynda Davis on 14-XI-2003 sitting on Callophylum sp. (Guttiferae) in a Hialeah nursery in Miami-Dade County. The second was collected by Eduardo Mendoza on 17-XI-2006 in the far northwestern part of Miami-Dade County sitting on ragweed, (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. (Compositae)). Here, we describe the identification and field testing of the pheromone blends of two species in the subfamily Cerambycinae that share 2-nonanone as an important component of their male-produced aggregation- sex pheromones, the South American Stizocera consobrina Gounelle (tribe Elaphidiini) and the North American Heterachthes quadrimaculatus Haldeman (tribe Neoibidionini). Along with 2-nonanone, males of S. consobrina also produce 1-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)-1,2-propanedione, whereas males of H. quadrimaculatus produce 10-methyldodecanol.

Development of new biocontrol agents of Bellyache bush and Parkinsonia Abstract This project pushed the prospects for biocontrol of the weeds bellyache bush and parkinsonia to a higher level. Previously, a significant amount of survey work had been done in Central America looking for potential biocontrol agents but the species resulting from those surveys had not been identified or prioritised. Our MLA funded project surveyed new areas of South America, identified the entire insect fauna and assessed their potential for release in Australia. Before this project, we had not identified any high potential agents, now we have three agents for parkinsonia that have a high probability of being suitable for introduction into Australia. We have been less successful with bellyache bush but at least we now know with certainty that this target weed has few prospects.
