MAURICE Geological Surveyof Canada, 601 Booth Street, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada,K1A OE8 ABSTRACT Heavy mineral concentrates were systematically collected and analyzed for gold and about30 other elementsin the Estrie-Beauce region of southern Quebec,in an effort to map andinterpret the distribution of alluvialgoldin this historically important placerregionof eastern Canada. The primary objective wasto outline dispersal patterns that could help explorationists lmate undiscovered primary- or placer-type gold mineralization. Gold is widely scattered throughout the regionit is and evident that glacial dispersal played a key role in shaping the present geochemical landscape. The paper describes the methods used to sample and analyse the heavy minerals, and presents a compilationof the gold data. Some - examples on how to interprettheresults arepresented along withsomd cautionary notes regarding their significance. Morphological features of gold grains foundin southern Quebec suggest that some gold particles may have formed in the glacial detritus from gold mobilized during weathering and soi1 profile development. The idea has been raised over the last few years by citizens and _local and provincial elected officials. The topic resurfaces regularly as a result of the physical proximity of the municipalities and the many common files that they share. COUNCILLOR 2 Opinions and facts Vincent Fontaine The mention of a merger almost immediately provokes an opinion in individuals, whether they are involved in municipal administration or not. However, an objective and expert analysis of the facts and data is helpful and necessary at times to reach a sound conclusion. Financial aspects COUNCILLOR 3 The first concern is financial. We can’t hide from the fact that Canton de Hatley and North Hatley have very distinct financial realities. Can these realities be Jacques reconciled in a way that is advantageous to both municipalities? What would Bogenez be the impact on citizens taxes? What other financial benefits or drawbacks might there be? At first glance we might all pronounce our own judgement. On the other hand, a study will allow us, one way or another, to provide the financial aspects debate with some reliable information to be shared.

    Secteur paysager 1 Hameau de Way's Mills Barnston-Ouest 1.11 N INTRODUCTION Cette fiche de caractérisation a pour but de faire ressortir les principales caractéristiques physiques et identitaires du hameau de Way’s Mills, développé à partir des années 1830 grâce à la présence de plusieurs moulins aménagés sur la rivière Niger. Ce hameau, qui a connu son âge d’or industriel à la fin du 19e siècle, est niché dans le creux d’une vallée boisée, ce qui contribue à son caractère champêtre et pittoresque. La rivière Niger, qui constitue l’élément identitaire le plus important de Way’s Mills, se fait toutefois discrète dans le paysage. Le tissu villageois du hameau est essentiellement composé de maisons cossues issues de l’architecture vernaculaire américaine dont les dépendances 1.2 sont souvent attachées au volume principal. Le hameau comprend également cinq bâtiments institutionnels. Les plus importants sont sans contredit les deux églises qui se font face, véritables icônes de Way’s Mills en plus d’être des points de repère dans le paysage.
