Here we present the first record of aberrant plumage in the White‐throated Piping‐guan (Pipile grayi). The individual with aberrant plumage was predominantly white‐colored, but with pale cream underparts. Unfeathered body parts like the fleshy wattle, bill, and tarsus had pink color. Based on these characteristics we conclude that it likely constitutes a case of “Ino‐light” mutation. RESUMO ∙ Plumagem aberrante em Jacutinga‐de‐barbela‐branca (Pipile grayi Pelzeln, 1870, Cracidae) Informações referentes a aberrações na coloração de plumagem são limitadas. Nesta comunicação breve apresenta‐ mos o primeiro registro de coloração aberrante de plumagem de Jacutinga‐de‐barbela‐branca (Pipile grayi). O indi‐ víduo apresentou plumagem com coloração predominantemente branca, com as partes inferiores com coloração creme. Outras partes do corpo, como barbela, bico e tarso apresentaram coloração rosada. Através destas caracterís‐ ticas fenotípicas e utilizando‐se de chaves de identificação para mutação de plumagem em aves disponíveis na litera‐ tura é suscetível que esta aberração se trate de um caso de mutação “Ino‐light”. -

Accepted on 21 February 2019. ABSTRACT: The Ornate Hawk-Eagle (Spizaetus ornatus) is a top predator and inhabits mainly preserved forests. It occurs from Mexico to Argentina and throughout Brazil, where it is threatened by extinction. It hunts birds, mammals and reptiles, picking up both on the ground and on the branches in the forest. Here we report data on a pair and one young individual of this species registered in the southeast of Minas Gerais state, eastern portion of the Espinhaço Range, Brazil. In addition, a literature review on the diet of the species was carried out aiming gather data on food habits. The nesting territory, as well as the nest was discovered in semi-deciduous seasonal forest area. We recorded predation of a Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture (Cathartes burrovianus) by the young. After two days of observation, the nest was overthrown, what allowed its screening for other food items discovered after analysis of some feathers and bones. Detailed records of predation of S. ornatus were non-existent or inaccurate. -

Birds in Atlantic Forest Fragments in North-East Brazil
Cotinga 20 Birds in Atlantic Forest fragments in north-east Brazil Luís Fábio Silveira, Fábio Olmos and Adrian J. Long Cotinga 20 (2003): 32–46 Durante o mês de outubro de 2001 os autores percorreram 15 fragmentos florestais no Estado de Alagoas, Brasil. O objetivo principal foi localizar novas populações e obter mais dados sobre os táxons endêmicos do ‘Centro Pernambuco’. Foram realizados censos em cada um dos fragmentos, que também foram analisados quanto ao estado geral de conservação. Discute-se a presença de espécies-chave, como grandes frugívoros ou aquelas sensíveis à fragmentação ou às mudanças na estrutura da vegetação. Os dois fragmentos mais importantes, com relação ao número de espécies encontrado e o número de táxons endêmicos, estão localizados na Usina Serra Grande (Mata do Pinto e Mata do Engenho Coimbra), onde foram registrados 16 táxons endêmicos e/ou ameaçados de extinção. Recomenda-se pesquisa taxonômica urgente, que procure evidenciar os táxons endêmicos do ‘Centro Pernambuco’, além de uma efetiva proteção aos fragmentos e às aves que ainda os habitam, uma maior vigilância contra a caça, a retirada de madeira e o desmatamento e um programa de reflorestamento que procure conectar os fragmentos mais próximos entre si. Soon after arriving in Cusco and meeting with our driver we headed out to Huacarpay Lake . Unfortunately our arrival time meant we got there when it was really hot, and activity subsequently low. Although we stuck to it, and slowly but surely, we managed to pick up some good birds. On the lake itself we picked out Puna Teal, Speckled and Cinnamon Teals, Andean (Slate-colored) Coot, White-tufted Grebe, Andean Gull, Yellow-billed Pintail, and even Plumbeous Rails, some of which were seen bizarrely swimming on the lake itself, something I had never seen before. -

Some arrived in less than a day, while others came all the way from Central Europe, enduring some serious jetlag – only to be awoken at an ungodly hour from Day #1. -

Swallow-tailed Cotinga, an emblematic “most wanted” bird in the fascinating Brazilian Atlantic Forest (Eduardo Patrial) ULTIMATE SOUTHEAST BRAZIL 6 – 20 NOVEMBER / 2 DECEMBER 2016 LEADER: EDUARDO PATRIAL This was certainly the best edition of the Ultimate Southeast Brazil tour so far. A tour to be remembered for a long time. Over six hundred species were recorded on this tour for the first time. High quality was amazingly abundant with nighty eight (98) genuine Brazilian endemics plus dozens of near endemic/Atlantic Forest endemic and one of the finest selection of rarities we could ever get. From Espirito Santo, the northernmost of Southeast Brazil, to the southernmost, the state of Rio Grande do Sul, we minutely explored the best from the unique Atlantic Forest. Our outline route was mainly along the impressive range of Serra do Mar, visiting both hilly and lowland coastal sites in fascinating landscapes and natural habitats, besides several nice hotels and pousadas and the great food available on this tour. Revision of the Status of Bird Species Occurring in Colombia 2010 Thomas Donegan, Paul Salaman, David Caro & Miles Mcmullan
Revision of the status of bird species occurring in Colombia 2010 Thomas Donegan, Paul Salaman, David Caro & Miles McMullan Abstract The following species are added to Colombia's bird checklist: Manx Shearwater Puffinus puffinus (observations), Black-headed Gull Chroicocephalus ridibundus (observations), Forster’s Tern Sterna forsteri (photographic record), Grey-backed Hawk Leucopternis occidentalis (observations), Rio Orinoco Spinetail Synallaxis beverlyae (newly described) and Yellow-cheeked Becard Pachyramphus xanthogenys (new record). First confirmed records for Colombia of White Tern Gygis alba (photograph), Point-tailed Palmcreeper Berlepschia rikeri (sonogram and photograph) and Lesser Wagtail-Tyrant Stigmatura napensis (sonogram) are published. A first sight record for Colombia of Blue-mantled Thornbill Chalcostigma stanleyi and photographs of the first specimen record of Ring- billed Gull Larus delawarensis are published. The following species are removed as no records were found: Ecuadorian Trogon Trogon mesurus and Olivaceous Siskin Carduelis olivacea. Various splits are recognised, resulting in changes of name for some species and the recognition of the following ‘new’ species for Colombia: Highland Motmot Momotus aequatorialis, Whooping Motmot Momotus subrufescens, Fulvous Antshrike Frederickena fulva, Chocó Tyrannulet Zimmerius albigularis, Paramo Tapaculo Scytalopus opacus, Black-headed Brush-Finch Arremon atricapillus, Colombian Brush-Finch Arremon basilicus and Phelps’ Brush-Finch Arremon perijanus. San Andrés Mockingbird Mimus magnirostris is removed due to recognition of a lump. Rationales for splits of Colombian Chachalaca Ortalis columbiana, Chestnut-mandibled Toucan Ramphastos swainsonii and Venezuelan Tyrannulet Zimmerius improbus are presented, including sonograms showing vocal support for the splits in the case of Ortalis and Zimmerius. Various species change category within the list, following a review of record documentation.
