Interview with Mr Beechey What is your favourite aspect of being a teacher? Seeing young people grow/develop into young adults over the 5/7 years. There is nothing better than seeing sixth formers become House Captains in addition to helping and volunteering with house activities and the shoebox appeal. Have you always wanted to become a teacher? Growing up I wasn’t sure. If opportunities had arisen at university regarding work placements/ experience a different career path maybe would’ve been uncovered. Saying that, I have no regrets with becoming a teacher. In school what was your favourite subject? PE and Business Studies, however then it was called Commerce. Did you go to university and did you enjoy what you studied? Yes, I studied Business and Economics at University. Overall, I enjoyed the experience as it helped me to grow. Moving far from home helped me to mature. In addition, I was the canoe club captain which helped to develop leadership skills. On the other hand, aspects were frustrating - there was a constant jump through hurdles. Do you recommend university or an apprenticeship to current sixth form students? It depends on personal preference, there are merits to both. With an apprenticeship you need to be 110% certain on what you want to do and would have to make sure it is with an organisation that has a very good reputation. Although, university opens your eyes to what is out there in the real world, you can meet new people and learn important life skills. However, after university a degree doesn’t always guarantee employment, if your CV isn’t backed up with work experience/ volunteering you may struggle. There is also no point going away to university if you’re constantly going to return home to family/ mates every few weeks, as it doesn’t allow you to stand on your own two feet. Ultimately, remember that there is no rush, go travelling first and enjoy your youth. If you could have any job in the world what would it be and why? A helicopter pilot in southern New Zealand. It would be an exciting experience and give an incredible perspective of the landscape Remembrance Day Armistice Day is on 11 November and is also known as Remembrance Day Remembrance Day is an annual event where everyone across the country It remembers the soldiers who fought in wars for Britain, particularly WWI and WWII. Is It Too Early For Christmas?

NO John Lewis released its highly anticipated Christmas advert on the 14th November, clearly it is not too early for Christmas. The advert stars an excitable and accident- prone dragon called Edgar who lives in a freezing mythical village with his red- headed best friend Ava – the ad seemed to melt the British public’s heart. This morning many people took to social media, with some branded the new advert as the 'best one yet' from the retailer. For years, the John Lewis adverts have been a sign that Christmas is around the corner and now it’s finally arrived. The basic rule is that putting up Christmas decorations any time before Halloween is too early. Now that it’s November, it’s perfectly acceptable to embrace all things Christmas.

How to be a good learner

• Consolidate your work in Form Time and in your ‘frees’ (use your time well) • Don’t sit around and chat in your study periods. • Consolidate your work and make sure you understand what you are learning. If you are unsure on any work, ask a teacher or someone in your class if they can help you. As a last resort, you could google it. • Keep up with deadlines, if you don’t keep up with deadlines you will end up getting behind and have more work in a short space of time • Make revision notes after lessons so when it comes to your exams then you don’t have as much to make as this takes time. Interview with Mila Barnard Question 1: How do you learn? I learn by consolidating my work and going over things. Question 2: How often do you do this? A few times a week, or after each topic. Question 3: Why do you think it’s important to learn? To memorise the information so I can apply it to everyday life. Question 4: Do you find learning difficult? Sometimes, but I try go over things as much as I can to help me understand things and if I still don’t understand things I ask a teacher for help. Question 5: Do you think the strategies you use to learn are effective or could there be a better way to learn? Yes, to an extent but I do have to do other things such as being tested to help me fully learn things. SHANNON THE CANNON BRIGGS

He is famous for his 60 wins, 53 coming from . This is an 88.3% knockout-to-win ratio. Shannon the Cannon Briggs held the world heavy weight championship twice overcoming all the odds to defeat notable champions such as George foreman, Ray Mercer and Siarhei Liakhovich. Also known for his “Let’s go champ” phrase, his life is the story of an underdog rising up in the ranks to become the world’s greatest. However life, was not always so easy for him.

Shannon’s early life was hard. Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in the Brownsville section, he spent a lot of his childhood homeless. In 1983, at the age of 12, Briggs saw in Bristol Park. Seeing Mike Tyson, the undisputed world heavyweight champion, inspired Shannon and “changed his life.” At the age of 17, Briggs began his training at the Jimmy O’Pharrow Starrett City Boxing Club in Brooklyn. He was diagnosed with asthma as a child, impacting his ability to fight later in life. On December 4th 1996, Shannon’s mother died due to a heroin overdose on Shannon’s 25th birthday.

Briggs career began in 1992. He was undefeated for his first 25 fights and was seen as an up and coming heavyweight champion. However this all came to a halt when he was defeated by Darroll Wilson in 1996; being knocked out in the third round. This was his first professional loss. Shannon can serve as an inspiration to us all. He proves that it doesn’t matter where you come from, and that you can achieve anything.

Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr. 2 In Diriyah, , December 7th 2019, Andy Ruiz Jr and Anthony Joshua are set for their rematch in one of the world’s most anticipated heavyweight bouts. This follows Andy Ruiz Jr’s amazing victory. This had been Anthony Joshua first loss in 23 fights, 21 of these he had previously won by knockout. This was Andy Ruiz Jr’s 34th match, with 33 wins and 22 . Ruiz’s victory made him the first Mexican heavyweight champion, gaining him the WBA (super), IBF, WBO and IBO titles. The result was the biggest upset in boxing history since Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson in the 10th round of their fight, on 11th February 1990.

The first fight took place in Madison Square Garden, New York 1st June 2019. In the first fight, Joshua had a good first 3 rounds knocking Ruiz down to the canvas. Ruiz stood up and Joshua went in to finish Ruiz and the fight. But when Joshua came in he was caught by Ruiz’s hook, causing him to wobble backwards with Ruiz dropping him by a combination (Joshua’s first time being dropped since fighting ). Joshua got up but was sent tumbling down again, clambering back up to be saved by the bell. Joshua never fully recovered, and coming into Round 6, he was stung by a hard body shot. In the 7th Round Ruiz let his hands go, hitting Joshua with an overhand right, sending him crashing down to the canvas for a third time. However Joshua, stood back up again, only to be knocked back down to the canvas for a fourth and final time, unable to keep his gum shield in. The referee called an end to the fight, with Andy Ruiz Jr as the victor by technical knockout (TKO).

The result of the first match made it a spectacle which has captured the attention of the world. Joshua is now hungry for revenge. Joshua is still the favourite to win, with the bookies setting the odds for an Andy Ruiz Jr win to 9/4 and an AJ win to 4/11, meaning Ruiz Jr is still the underdog.
